Getting invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts is a pretty big deal.

And a list has revealed the recent celebs who have been asked to join the honorable Academy.

Even though Beyonce has only been in a handful of films, she was one of the 178 invitees on the list.

Other celebs include Russell Brand, Jesse Eisenberg, David Duchovny, Tea Leoni, Gerard Butler, Mila Kunis, Bradley Cooper, and Ellen Page.

Academy President Tom Sherak says:

"These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today. Their talent and creativity have entertained moviegoers around the world, and I welcome each of them to our ranks."

Since 2003, there have been 6,000 members of The Academy - members who also vote for the Oscars. Very impressive! We'd love to catch a glimpse of Bey's Oscar voting ballot for 2012…wouldn't U??

How sad. There was a time when being invited to become a voting member was important. But when you have people like Beyonce and Gerard Butler? The only names on that list that remotely make sense are Mila Kunis, Jesse Eisenberg, and Ellen Page. Maybe Bradley Cooper. Maybe. But even he's a stretch. I think "the academy" is letting box office and $$$ dictate who the allow to vote.

Beyonce? Are you fucking kidding me? The last movie she did was Obsessed in 09, for christ sakes! And before that was Dreamgirls in 06! That has to be the biggest joke I've ever heard.

  3. 3

No wonder that for years now nominees and winners are a joke. The voters are irrelevant.

  4. 4

Well that proves the academy is a joke.

  5. 5

Beyonce? Seriously? I've never paid much attention to the Oscars bc this is why; it's basically just one big popularity contest where movies are voted not based on merit, but on political correctness, personal interest and so on.

  6. 6

how about outsource the voting to chinese people…… yeah i guess it is much better.

  7. 7

    Next year, Lady fucking Gaga.

  8. 8

    what a joke?lol

Russell Brand? really? RUSSELL BRAND IS ONE OF THE BEST WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY TODAY? There is no emoticon for the face I am making right now. This is like Charlie Sheen being awarded a 'best fatherly rolemodel' prize! Arthur was career-endingly bad! Get Him To The Greek was dismal and he can't get any work in the UK after his behaviour here! HOW did he get this invite?

All names listed are ridiculous!! As someone already said, this is the reason no one pays attention, anymore. The Academy obviously is working on trying to pull in the next generation, which has no interest . . .

I'm not surprised at the inclusion of some of these celebrities. The Academy seemed have given up the search for excellence and made it a popularity contest. Another example: When they increased the nominees for Best Picture to ten in an effort to tempt viewers numbers, the Academy cheapened the nomination honor, and all of those who truly deserved that honor and had striven for excellence.

As much as I LOVE Beyonce and think she's an amazing artist, hearing this saddens me. As Re: lemonbird – mentioned, being in the "academy" used to mean something, a level of high standards and at least a little bit of knowledge. Beyonce, bless her, does not fit that profile. I guess quality will no longer be associated with the "academy".

"These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today."

    ****Blank Stare******

Ellen Page is the only one who makes sense. She's been nominated and she's a wonderful actress the others………….

  16. 16

Just shows how fucking sad the talent pool in the dramatic arts has become.

Membership in the Academy is by invitation only, and comes from the Board of Governors. Membership eligibility may be achieved by earning a competitive Oscar nomination or an existing member may submit a name based on other significant contribution to the field of motion pictures. Academy Membership is divided into 15 branches, and members may not belong to more than one branch. One of the academy branches (each represents different disciplines) is music. (list @ wiki) Maybe that's why she was invited.

  18. 18

THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS HAS OFFICIALLY LOST ALL RESPECT & CREDIBILITY.

  19. 19

SHE MUST HAVE GOTTEN HER HUSBAND TO WRITE THE ACADEMY A REALLY BIG CHECK.

  20. 20

THIS ISN'T GONNA STOP HER ALBUM FROM FLOPPING.

  21. 21

None of the names on that lis makes sense.

  22. 22

Beyonce out of all people. She is not really an actress. I.do agree its all about popularity.

  23. 23

You must be choking while typing this Gaga's bitch. You managed to question her invitation in your last sentence…the sarcasm didn't go unnoticed. Suck it!!

  24. 24

There are actual Oscar Nominees who don't have voting rights and Beyonce does Obsessed and gets them?? Well, they are oficially nutso. Anne Hathaway and James Franco weren't dumb enough moves they now resort to pandering to moronic fans of manufactured pop music. Oscars are becomming as useless as the Grammies.

what a fucking joke just like the billboard thing, she's the worst acctress i've seen, she sucks in so many ways
