We have very sad news.

Saxophonist Clarence Clemons has died at the age of 69.

The E Street Band member who Bruce Springsteen called his "beloved comrade," had suffered from a massive stroke on June 12 and had been hospitalized. He passed away on Saturday.

While his condition seemed to be improving after being hospitalized and two subsequent brain surgeries, he unfortunately took a turn for the worse later this week.

Known as the Big Man by fans and friends, he performed on such hits as Born to Run, Thunder Road, Jungleland, and Dancing in the Dark.

Bruce once said of Clarence:

"The story I have told throughout my work life I could not have told as well without Clarence."

He will be greatly missed. His family, friends, and band mates will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  24. 24

Very sad! He seemed like a stand up guy as well as a one of a kind talent. Rest easy daddy-o!

  25. 25

It's almost surreal to think you'll never see him blasting away on stage with the Boss ever again! Rest in peace, Big Man!

  26. 26

So sad, I thought I read somewhere a couple of days ago that he was improving, the world has lost a great talent :o (

    27

TALENTED GUY..HE MADE A DIFFERENCE ON EARTH THRU' HIS MUSIC

  28. 28

RIP Big Man! I will always remember him for his work with Bruce, and of course, Edge of Glory. Let it this be a lesson that when you do a music video with such an iconic sax player, you must pay tribute and spend a considerable time of exposure as respect and admiration. Shame for for the 6 seconds of really dark unremarkable image exposure he got on Gaga's video. The video would have been great otherwise. He's a legend, not Gaga!

  29. 29

glad to have seen bruce and the e street band live several times. what a talented human being…you will be missed big man. "He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music." RIP

  30. 30

OMG, it's Tranny CaCa's curse!! don't ever f*ck with Tranny CaCa!!
Rest in paradise, legend…our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family..

  31. 31

i dont know who he even is but that sucks.

  32. 32

    R.I.P. El Grande Macho.

  33. 33

Clarenece, you gave us so much…now maybe we can give you a little dignity….we will miss you Big Man….RIP……

  34. 34

    This is so sad! R.I.P.

  35. 35

now lady gaga new video doesn't suck that much, now the video has deeper meaning.. thats sad..

  36. 36

Lady Gaga was on the edge of glory with Clarence Clemons.

  37. 37

    R.I.P.

  38. 38

Oh no, RIP, he will be missed.
Re: FSRe: noe_rie – You don't have to bring her in to everything you know. This is about him and not her.

  39. 39

Re: elica123 – LOL!!! Clarence was a liar and a cheat…HE HAD LIKE 62 KIDS FOR FUCKS SAKE!! MAYBE GAGA WILL ADOPT THEM!!!! LOL!!!

  40. 40

Re: tellall – LOL!! NO ONE CARES ABOUT THIS JUNGLE BUNNY!!! LMAO!!!!!

  41. 41

When I first heard of his passing, a song from one of his solo albums that he released in the mid to late eightes kept popping through my head called. You Are A friend Of Mine I think he cololaborated with Jackson Browne and Darryle Hanna was in the video too!

  42. 42

Love how the same people that complain about how perez bring lady gaga in to everything are the same people who bring her in to this. This isn't about her, it is about him. May he RIP.

  43. 43

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, PennyJump.com

  44. 44

Re: POPSCIDICTATOR – # 40 - Shame on you. One should not speak ill of the dead.

  45. 45

Re: shannoncooper – Yeah, and the music video of The Edge of Glory could have been a lot more about Clemons than Lady Gaga. But she's an egocentric bitch! Even the video with her fans (13 minutes marathon) was "all about her". Sadly in TEOG, he only got 6 seconds out of a song that is longer than five minutes. Thanks God for Bruce Springsteen, he did honor Clemons in every video!

  46. 46

Re: TheUglyTruth – Yeah, we all honor this nig jig wife beater!! Props to guys who beat the shit outta their wives!! He was a big time jerk off!! I think it's so funny that he died after working with Gaga on her video shoot!! I guess Kahn was right about her…GAGA PROBABLY BROUGHT ON THE STRESS THAT CAUSED HIS STROKE!! HEY!! GAGS CAN NOW TAKE CREDIT FOR HIS DEATH!!! S-S-S-STROKER FACE, MA MA MA STROKER FACE!! LOLZ!!!

  47. 47

Re: TheUglyTruth – It was filmed and made before he died and even got an stroke. It's a GaGa video so of course it's gonna be her we see the most. Starting to think she released that video because he was in it. So if you are done talking about her then continue to talk about him and stop brining GaGa in to this and complain about everything always has to be about her when it's you who brings her in (along with others).

  48. 48

its the meat n dairy that clog arteries (pcrm.org) leading to heart attack, stroke, (ed, pad, ect) the arteries become as hard and brittle as the stem of a clay pipe. they are so full of calcium they are more like rocks than blood vessels. cutting them with a scissor at autopsy makes a distinct crunching soumd. this blockage also occurs in the arteries to the brain. when they close off, part of the brain dies. a stroke. IF he would have been vegan, he would ST!LL BE ROCK!N.. any meijer, walmart, kroger, (ect) has vegan burgers & (chocolate) soymilk.

  49. 49

RIP Clarence! You are in the arms of the angels now. You will be missed. Prayers to his friends and family.

  50. 50

    Re: TheUglyTruth
You could at least put aside your all-consuming hatred for this woman if you really feel Clarence Clemons should be honored. Even Perez didn't mention anything about GaGa in this post. My guess is you never even heard of him before GaGa, and it's too bad you never even got to ASK him if being a small part of the video is maybe what he wanted. He wasn't the same person in 2011 that he was 25 years ago dancing around with Bruce Springsteen in his videos, and you even look to hard to find in some of those.

Why did you use Whoopi Goldbergs picture?

  52. 52

    RIP Big Man

  53. 53

Re: GoodBoyNC – I'm not bringing Lady Gaga in this or anything but I wonder if you believe that Perez would even be bringing up his death if it wasn't for his connection to LG? I do not know but I was just wondering that. Especially since some people aren't old enough to know about him, or many people might not have listened to him back in the day. Anyways, I hope he finds peace.

  54. 54

Re: Glamour_is_the_Life – And who the fuck are you to tell what I should do??? Only 6 seconds out of 5 mins plus, while she was dancing erotically and feeling herself in the entire video. SOOOOOOOO WROOOOOOONG!!!!!

  55. 55

Re: indycar01 – I totally agree with you. I was a vegan for 9 months, but then I moved to a small town without much healthy choice.

  56. 56

    Re: yeaman
Why not? He posted the death of Gil Scott-Heron, who has NO connection to Lady GaGa, and who I'm sure a lot of Perez' readers had never even heard of.

  57. 57

Re: GoodBoyNC – Perez hasn't praised the video on the first place ’cause he knows it was really bad. Even critics pointed out the lack of exposure that Clemons received. And yes I knew about Clemons since Dancing in the Dark. I didn't need a self-centered obnoxious wannabe Cyndi Lauper/Madonna/Xtina/Annie Lennox sad imitation to remain me of him. Once again, RIP Big Man, or like Lisa Simpson would say Big Gums.

  58. 58

Re: POPSCIDICTATOR – And you know this how? Shut your dumb ass mouth. May he rest in peace, he had millions of fans. Touched MANY lives, more than you could EVER imagine. Show some class. He was a great, talented, man and he will truly be missed

  60. 60

Re: GoodBoyNC – I was just wondering, not to bash your precious idol. It was an honest thought since alot of the things on this website are LG related. You said in your comment that the person probably didn't know him before Gaga, and it makes me wonder how many people didn't and IF Perez himself only became aware of him because of the connection.

  61. 61

I had a friend was a big baseball player
    back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you
Make you look like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
I was walking in, he was walking out
We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
but all he kept talking about was

    Chorus:
Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
    Glory days, glory days

Well there's a girl that lives up the block
back in school she could turn all the boy's heads
Sometimes on a Friday I'll stop by
and have a few drinks after she put her kids to bed
Her and her husband Bobby well they split up
I guess it's two years gone by now
We just sit around talking about the old times,
she says when she feels like crying
    she starts laughing thinking about

Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
and I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
    but I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
a little of the glory of, well time slips away
and leaves you with nothing mister but
    boring stories of glory days

  62. 62

Re: TheUglyTruth – I think you should respect his memory instead of talking shit about people when it's about him.
6 seconds is good, it's about her and not him so deal with it. You can still hear him play. She didn't even haft to have him in there but she did. Stop trying make everything she does a bad thing every chance you get. Just because you didn't know who he was doesn't mean you can come in here and say those stuff just because you hate GaGa so, he liked her obviously, if he didn't he would have helped her and I think he saw the video and liked it. So if you done talking about GaGa then continue on talking about him and the wonderful music he brought to us.

  63. 63

R.I.P Clarence, still can't believe he is dead. He is in a good place know and he can feel the love we had for him.

  64. 64

Re: Glamour_is_the_Life – Six seconds is good ??? I think you are so up inside Gaga's ass that it prevents you from seeing the light.

Don't even bother responding unless you're in it for the lolz. Gaga's talent and success is defense enough against some internet randoms with fuck-all else to do but piss you off.

Rest in Peace mister Clemons and thank you for all the great concerts, the beautifull moments and the joy and comfort. I will miss you very much and am very sad.
It will never be the same without you.
I wish your family, loved ones, mister Springsteen and your E-Streeters strength with this huge loss.
