Back in March, we first heard about the possibility of a sequel to Oscar-winning film The Fighter, and we didn't think it was a good idea.
As we said back then, we think that The Fighter was a wonderful film, with fantastic performances, and we don't want them to ruin the integrity of the original by sequelizing it.
Fortunately, it looks like they're not making a direct sequel right now, but director David O. Russell has instead begun testing actresses for a Fighter follow-up film called The Silver Linings Playbook, which will star Mark Wahlberg in the male lead role.
Actresses who are up for the major female role in the film include Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Olivia Wilde, and Andrea Riseborough.
According to sources, Jennifer Lawrence MAY also be in the running.
The film's story will revolve around "a man who suffers from a mental collapse and is released from a health facility determined to find the silver linings in his life."
The female role is "a depressed woman who, when her husband dies, goes on a sexual spree, even at the cost of her job. She befriends [Mark] and becomes his love interest."
Sounds like this could be good! More than anything though, we're glad that they're leaving The Fighter alone and not giving it a direct sequel…for now at least.
Are U intrigued by David O. Russell's upcoming Fighter follow-up? What actress do U think would a good choice to star opposite Mark Wahlberg?
