Obama Attends LGBT Fundraiser, Says Marriage Equality Issue Should Be Left To The States

obama underwhelms at lgbt fundraiser

Obama, you REALLY need to get aboard with the marriage equality issue!

During an LGBT fundraiser last night, things started out great and the room was filled with laughter as Neil Patrick Harris introduced President Barack Obama by saying "he's coming out soon…" LOLz.

As the night went on though, Obama seemed to spend the majority of his time recounting achievements in office, as opposed to making announcements about crucial subjects such as same-sex marriage.

Here's what he DID have to say about marriage equality:

“I believe that gay couples deserve the same legal rights as every other couple in this country."

When asked further about gay marriage, he said that he believes that issue should be left to individual states. Boo!

We understand that he's "evolving" on the issue of same-sex marriage, but he seriously needs to EVOLVE already and start showing some legit support for this important issue!

As we've said before, he's done some great things for the LGBT community, but he needs to go further.

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

  1. 1

There are literally hundreds of issues he needs to address before gay marriage.

  2. 2

Leave it up to the states. It actually sounds perfectly reasonable to me. This country is so large and so diverse, and has such different dynamics regionally. I think it is the way to go.

  3. 3

I am for gay marriages. But seriously, he is way too busy and have way too much things on his plate to involve himself in the marriage equality issue, there are way too much more serious issues going on in the States right now, they are in a recession and owes trillions of debt. he doesn't need anymore headaches from the gay community

  4. 4

Or you could appreciate what he has done…I mean it's not like there are more important things going on like a war or anything. Gay marraige doesn't bother me. I agree, love who you want. It is the over the top heterophobic, overly sensitive whining that does annoy me. Everytime the word gay comes out of a public figure's mouth they are labeled as homophobic, there is a statement issued against them and you go on one of your rants. I personally do not care one way or another because it doesn't affect me, however the safety of our country, getting my boyfriend home from Afghanistan (along with the thousands of others), I think those things should probably take priority. And FYI perez, you're the first gay man who has ever disgusted me. You are setting back your own "community".

  5. 5

Yea, but this "issue" is EASILY made right, the other "issues" that some are saying that are more important (and they are important) are VERY complex and going to take some time to get us out of the woods-so to speak….Equality for all, that simple.

  6. 6

Technically by the division of power given to the overarching government versus the separate states, it should be a state issue. Having the federal government control everything goes totally against how our nation was supposed to be formed. The states wanted individual freedoms to be kept and I think it should stay that way. The more power and overarching laws the federal government has the more and more our government will turn away from a democracy.

  7. 7

Oh what a surprise, The Bamster votes "present" again.

  8. 8

Re: sanfran1 – Thanks for the input Hilton.

  9. 9

What an insensitive and homophobic remark by Harris. He needs to apologize immediately,
and then meet with black homeless gays.

  10. 10

TIME FOR PRESIDENT ROMNEY OR HUNTSMAN…BARRY HAS BETRAYED EVERYONE THAT VOTED FOR HIM…MAYBE FINALLY PEOPLE WILL WAKE UP AND REALIZE WE WERE SOLD BARRY AS THE SECOND COMING BY THE FUCKING PRESS. WE SHOULD HAVE CLUED IN WHEN HE CALLED HIS GRANDMOTHER A ”TYPICAL WHITE WOMAN” OR WHEN HE ATTENDED HIS RACIST CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS OR MOST IMPORTANTLY WHEN HE VOTED ”PRESENT” 123 TIMES WHILE IN THE STATE SENATE…THE GUY IS A FRAUD AND HE'S TAKING OUT 10,000 TROOPS…WTF????? ALL THE CRAP THAT LIBERALS COMPLAINED ABOUT WITH BUSH, OBAMA HAS DOUBLED DOWN!!! AND GONE FURTHER. LOOK, WE DID OUR PART AND ELECTED A BLACK MAN. GOOD. NOW THAT THAT BOX IS CHECKED LET'S HIRE SOMEONE WHO CAN ACTUALLY DO THE FUCKING JOB…SOMEONE NOT SO DETACHED AND ROBOT LIKE…SOMEONE WHO CARES AND MOSTLY, SOMEONE WHO WILL GET PEOPLE BACK TO WORK!! BARRY IS OUTTA HER IN 2012!!!!! BE SMART FOR ONCE LIBERALS…YOU BACKED THE WRONG HORSE!!

  11. 11

Stop forcing him to change EVERYTHING at once. There are more important issues to focus on. For now, he's right, it should be a state by state issue, and thats alot coming from him because BEFORE he got elected he didnt even support gay marriage.

  12. 12

Re: Hairplugs for Hilton – LMAO!! I'm so sick of people having to apologize for what they believe!!! AMEN siStA!! LOLZ!!!!

  13. 13

Samtra— YOU nailed it! I only wish all American were as in tune with what our founding fathers and the Constitution of the United States was based on. The Federal Government should not be dictating what every state should do…READ the Constitution folks !!

  14. 14

is this like pride week or something? bcuz there ia pridefest in my city too…just wondering, and yes of course equal marriage rights for all! shame on obama for not attending to this, i mean u'd think since he is half black he would understand the turmoil that a 'different' race or sexual orientation has to go through to be accepted in this country and try to ease gays along their road to inevitable victory, but i guess not.

  15. 15

He's a fucking coward, then let the states revise their laws about discrimination and slavery.

  16. 16

Re: sanfran1 – it's not an issue that is easily made right. the fact that you think it is means you have literally zero understanding of how deeply entrenched people's feelings are regarding religion and marriage and homosexuality. a sweeping change that comes at one time, from the top of the government (the Supreme Court) would create an unbelievable amount of public unrest and outcry and would undoubtedly create more harm than good. a change like this one should come gradually over time as people's beliefs and opinions evolve.

and don't forget–our nation was FOUNDED on the idea of individual state rights. don't forget, the federal government is one of ENUMERATED (meaning, specifically granted) powers. all powers that were not specifically give to the federal government are retained by the INDIVIDUAL STATES.

finally, you clearly misunderstand how much Obama can even do. He can't enact legislation. He can't declare laws unconstitutional. He can't force the Supreme Court to even hear an issue, let alone decide it. Obama has no power to do anything. Yeah, he could say that everyone should have the right to marry, but it wouldn't do anything or bring about any changes.

You really need a civics lesson, Perez.

  17. 17

why does he NEED to support gay marriage? He's right, it should be left up to the states. Maybe he could care less like most of this country. Be gay and be merry, just quit shoving it down our throats.

  18. 18

Re: POPSCIDICTATOR – he didnt betray me. i've benefited from him being in office unlike the last idiot we had.

  19. 19

I'm sorry this is NOT the most important issue he needs to deal with. This needs to be put on the back burner….Let's get the economy going again before we start to worry about gay marriage.

  20. 20

Maybe abolition of slavery should have been left to the states as well…Gay rights are human rights and should not be left up to legislation, either Federal or State. We don't say African Americans (or pick a color or ethnicity) have more rights and priviledges in one state versus another and our GLBT citizens are entitled as human beings to the same protection as all other classes of people-maybe the economy sucks and we are in a few wars but there is no greater issue that correcting human rights wrongs in our own country.

  21. 21

Re: kellbell2002 – YOU'RE RIGHT. BARRY'S BEEN GREAT. KEPT ALL HIS PROMISES AND REALLY TURNED THINGS AROUND FOR THE COUNTRY!! LOLZ!! DO YOUR PART FOR HOPE AND CHANGE AND MAKE SURE YOU VOTE FOR HIM NEXT YEAR…I PROMISE YOU THIS: I'LL BE A WASTED VOTE, COCK DRAINER!! GET USE TO SAYING PRESIDENT HUNSTMAN OR PRES ROMNEY!! LOL!!

  22. 22

Get real Perez, President Obama has more important things to do like schedule his golf game for tomorrow, party with a few celebrities, travel around the country for a few fundraisers and gobble some more cheeseburgers while Michelle is out of the country. Then if he has a moment, he might focus for a few minutes on the new war and a half (Syria) that he's gotten us into…oh, and the flailing economy (I threw that in for giggles…we all know he doesn't want the economy to improve…even though he's "focusing like a laser beam" on it. LOL!

  23. 23

Fucking drop it. If you want to get married - move to a fucking state that allows it. End of discussion. Being able to get married isn't that big of a deal. You only harp on it because you can't. MOVE ON! There is allot of things I can't do - but I am glad I am able to do the things that I can! Look how far the gay movement has came - be grateful and quit forcing the topic down everyones throat. IT"S GETTING OLD!

  24. 24

    F Obama.

  25. 25

You are such an idiot. Of course Obama has a clear sense of right and wrong when it comes to gay rights; but he still needs to get reelected. If he doesn't spend the next year appealing to as many moderates as he can, we're going to have a Republican president in 2012 who could spend eight years pushing the issue back even further. Just because full marriage equality isn't in the cards for this term of Obama's presidency doesn't mean he isn't the LGBT rights movement's greatest hope for progress.

  26. 26

He's for Federal control over every other issue. This was just an easy out for him. He should quietly step down from office and move back to his homeland.

  27. 27

Let's have real primaries w/o voter fraud (yeah, right, like that'll happen)
AND LET THE PEOPLE SORT IT OUT.
We are angry being forcefed what the GOP likes to stick down our throats…RINOS:

i.e. John McCain and Newt go home. Please.
    You're embarrassing yourselves.

  28. 28

Perez maybe you shouldn't tell people what to believe in.

  29. 29

Re: POPSCIDICTATOR – Hey fuckhead…..you've established yourself as a douche so stick to that…….your political views are not heard, stick to Lady CaCa dumbass and go lick Palins twat

  30. 30

    Re: ItsJustMeInMphs – F you…..K?

  31. 31

    Let the states begin.

  32. 32

"leave it to the states" is political speak for
    .
"I don't want to be the one to address this because if I really say what I think then I won't be popular with my liberal friends anymore–so I'm gonna pass the buck and dump it on the states–then if the people who want it don't get it-they can be mad at the states and not me!!! so I'm still blameless"
    .
wouldn't it be great to have a president with a backbone!!
he rammed through Obamacare even though nobody wanted that version of a health care plan–but something as simpe as this he's running away from!!!

  33. 33

SHUT UP! We need jobs, good jobs and healthcare! I agree with it but it is not an issue right now. If you think getting married is the most important thing on the planet, you're a selfish idiot.

  34. 34

get this useless piece of shit out of office

  35. 35

He recounted his achievements in office? That must have been a short speech. As for gay marriage, he knows he's got the gay vote wraped up because he's a Democrat - why should he help gays and risk offending other groups who will vote for him, but dont want gay marriage? Wise up - its not going to happen.

  36. 36

    Re: Miles30 – LOLZ! Yep.

  37. 37

As Justin Timberlake once said, "Cry Me a River." Perez, do you really expect less from a Pres who so far as failed on every promise he made during the campaign? As much as I am no fan of Obama, he is absolutley right on this one: the power belongs to the states. AND YES, we've got more important things to press him on (i.e. ECONOMY) than freakin' gay marriage. Get over it!

  38. 38

Well that is all fine and dandy, but when you have the federal government trying to outlaw it then it isn't just a state issue.

  39. 39

I'm pretty sure that the term "Cry Me a River" didn't originate with Justin Timberlake The only thing worse than using a cliche like that is to attribute it to some freaking pop star. Jeezus, you wanted talk about gay?

  40. 40

Re: meccano – referenced JT due to the "celebrity" nature of this website. Obviously JT didn't invent that phrase….

  41. 41

Confirmed: Modern Liberalism is a failed ideology.

The past 80 years, all the way back to the New Deal, of creeping Leftist economic policy (whether by R’s or D’s) has done terrible damage…especially to the futures of the poor and less fortunate.
    -
It really is time to criminalize liberalism/leftism.
    -
At some point in the near future, Obama/Reid/Pelosi/Frank/et al should be arrested and imprisoned for their lying and treacherous destruction of the liberty and financial freedom and futures of so many citizens.
    -
The notion that these folks simply are be able to shrug and say “whoops, my bad” is just unacceptable.

  42. 42

He's an idiot and he is destroying the country. If he is elected again by the kool aid drinkers, we won't even have a country by the time he is out.

I will vote for Ronald McDonald or anyone other than Obama. We need to get him and that moron Biden out ASAP!

  43. 43

    BOOOO

    Screw Obama. He lied

  44. 44

Mario, don't be an idiot. If marriage is the ONLY concern of the gay community they need to take another look in the mirror. They are effected by everything else any American is effected by. Thus Obama was talking about issues that every American faces today. That includes the Gay and Lesbian communities. Idiot. Stop commenting on issues you know NOTHING about. That includes your idiotic interns that writer 99% of this crap.

  45. 45

Obama is the leader of a secular country. He is not a religious leader. Thank God. He is very respectful of the separation of church and state that's makes out country GREAT!! He has beed very supportive of gay rights. If the Republican's get back in power you will really have something to complain about. The republican Party of 2011 wants gay people DEAD.

  46. Wrenn says – reply to this

    46

Well guess what??? You can feel free to kiss his ass!! The economy, jobs, gas prices, healthcare…are just a few of the things that come before gay marriage. This is not a problem in the lives of most Americans. As a matter of fact…it's not at the bottom of our list…it's not even on the list.

  47. 47

    Re: boston61
    -
boston61, I can always count on you for smoking a bowl and regurgitate your tired old Marxist shit.
    -
    Obama is an epic failure.
You know it. We all know it.

    - GDP: 1.5%
    - He has told Congress to take a hike on Libya and is now in the Monarch Zone with his Queen Marie Antoinette(sp) (the booze is hitting).
That ended badly for that Monarchy.
    -
    We're no less passionate.
We're one big mob of Madame DeFarges.
Or if you will, Mama Grizzly Bears.

  48. 48

Who cares what President Obmam says. He is a liar! That photo looks like he needs to relax with Exlax.

  49. 49

Hey Perez! Guess what? What Obama did was CONSTITUTIONAL and for the first time I can stand behind our president and congratulate him on doing something as he's supposed to. Anything not expressly addressed in the Constitution is up to individual states. STATE'S RIGHTS. WOO!

  50. 50

To support individual rights starts with supporting individual states' rights. I agree with him.

  51. 51

    We’re ALL Greeks now!
    -
Greek style Baby! Up are ass!

  52. 52

Ok Perez, back off, the Prez is busy. And he's right, it should be a state issue of what they want to call it, so long as it gets done. The old fogies are very resistant when it comes to this issue and unfortunately THEY ACTUALLY VOTE! So if you want some more change, get more GLTB or whatever the f this acronym to vote. Only something like 20% of eligible young Americans voted in the last general election. You want your issues pushed through, get people more involved in ALL POLITICS, not just the ones that apply to them directly. The fogies may have the money, but WE STILL HAVE OUR VOTE.

  53. 53

Take what you can get, Beggers cant be choosers.

  54. 54

It's always something, eventually gay marriage will exist everywhere and not just in the whole US but the whole world.

  55. 55

Re: hwright – EXACTLY. EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY!!! I do think he could do more, however, there are a ton of problems with this country that he needs to deal with and also, he's trying to get re-elected! I'm HOPING he's only being more conservative in the interest of getting more votes come next year (which might bite him in the ass) - but I'm HOPING if he gets re-elected her just goes balls to the wall with everything he talked about in 2007-08, including gay marriage. Just calm the hell down, everything he's doing is very calculated and political. Just saying.

  56. 56

Marriage is a state issue; it is not that hard to believe. And until States start dealing with it, the federal level can only do so much if anything at all. So it is understandable that he wants to leave it up to the States especially when all of the states do not enforce a uniformed aged to get married. However, one thing Obama needs to start thinking about is that states are required to respect any marriage that occurred in a different state. This is why when John Doe and Sussie Q move to another state they don’t have to get remarried. This is something that needs to be in correlation with states that do not allow gay marriage.

  57. 57

NO, IT'S A RIGHT WE ALL HAVE!!
That's like saying "segregation 'should be left to individual states'"… NO, IT'S JUST WRONG!
