We feel a mighty fist pump coming on! We're so proud to hear people are doing all they can to get equality for all!
A New Jersey gay rights organization, along with seven same-sex couples and their children have announced they will file a suit in state Superior Court today demanding marriage equality for the gay citizens of the Garden State. They insist that their partnerships should be recognized as marriages, not civil unions, and be afforded every right a heterosexual couple has.
Jersey has been struggling the past year to get some marriage equality legislation to pass in the state, but with Gov. Chris Christie's ignorance standing in their way, there are very few options left open to them to make it work. It seems the courts are their last hope to marry under Christie's reign. Steven Goldstein, chairman of Garden State Equality, the gay rights organization that is the lead plaintiff in the suit explained:
"Gov. Christie says no way will there be marriage equality in New Jersey. And we say no way are we going to listen to him."
That's the spirit! No hurdle is too high! Fight the powers that be!
You have our support, NJ! Equality for all!
