Oh no! Another one!

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a monstrous earthquake has struck off the Kermadec Islands just northeast of New Zealand.

With a magnitude of 7.8, the quake has triggered a tsunami warning for New Zealand, the Kermadec Islands and Tonga.

The quake struck at 7:03 a.m. Thursday morning their time.

The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Center said if tsunami does develop, it will hit East Cape within two hours and Auckland within three.

Yikes! Our thoughts go out to you, New Zealand!!

Do U think it's the world is coming to an end?

did you by chance go to a science class in the 3rd grade when they taught plate tectonics?

  3. 3

  4. 4

Am from Chch,NZ, They have downgraded it. It's now a marine threat and just to stay off the beaches.

  5. 5

(CNN) — The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center canceled a tsunami warning less than an hour after it was issued Wednesday for Kermadec Island, Tonga and New Zealand after a tsunami was detected following a major earthquake nearby.

  6. 6

Aw snap! Noooooo. I hope there is no tsunami.

  7. 7

No, the world isn't coming to an end. How do you think New Zealand was formed in the first place? Was it always in the same place and position or was it attached to another much larger land mass?

  8. 8

Don't worry it has been cancelled.
By the way that is a picture or the South Island of New Zealand. The Tsunami warning was issued for Auckland, Bay of Plenty and the East Coast, of the North Island. So perhaps a picture of the North Island would be more appropriate. Or even just a picture of the whole of New Zealand then you have no chance of getting it wrong.

  9. 9

Perez, stick to gossip and let real reporters report on real newsworthy events. You always get it wrong when it comes to stuff that actually matters.

  10. 10

Yes, the world is ending. 2012 will be the final stretch before Judgment Day

The tsunami warning has been downgraded, and they're currently reporting an approximately 1 metre+ tidal surge in New Zealand.

New Zealand will always be a dangerzone for earthquakes. Along with Japan, and many other countries. There aren't more natural disasters now then 100 years ago, but with the internet (among other things) -it's become increasingly easy to know about every single disaster in the entire world. For better or worse.

The earth is estimated to be 4.54 Billion years old, and you're asking if we think that the world is coming to an end because of one earthquake in the established ring of fire?
No, I don't think the world is coming to an end after 4.54 Billion years because of one earthquake. That won't do it.
