True Blood Ratings Drop BIG TIME For Second Episode!

We imagine this is the last time they'll stream an entire episode on-line a week before it airs!

After a nearly recording breaking 5.424 million viewers tuned in for the fourth season premiere of True Blood, the follow-up episode was made watchable on-line nearly a week in advance, and apparently, it showed in the ratings this past Sunday night, which dropped 47%!

Only 2.9 million total watched the HBO series live, securing it a 1.5 demo rating!

Oopsie! Not the best marketing strategy, guys!

Don't worry, though! We doubt the same mistake will be made again!

Gotta keep those ratings nice and high!

It's probably because it was July 4th weekend also!! Most people had off Monday and therefore went out Sunday night… Dumba**

  2. 2

Or it was 4th of July weekend dumb-dumb, I dvred it and watched it later the next day since I was out sunday night most other shows ran repeats!

  3. 3

Maybe because the are deviating SO far from the books, its becoming hard to even watch anymore. Bill…King of LA?! Bill cheats on Sookie, and every single time shes in trouble Eric saves her….and he is never King of anything….

I had to watch the second episode after the premiere, it was just too good to pass. But also watched it on Sunday, while having a "Skinny Girl Margarita" :)

Don't jump to conclusions sweet pink. They used the notoriously low July 4th weekend to get viewers to watch HBO Go. It was a brilliant marketing strategy. Check out their web numbers before you start calling bad ratings. If you remember they usually broadcast a 3 show recap during July 4th holiday. Internet and Cable are courting each other right now dear and the marriage is coming very soon.

DUDE!! it was the 4th of July weekend!!! thats why they streamed it and ratings will pick up next week. What an idiot… This is a total non-story.

the 2nd episode was WAY better than the premiere.

  8. 8

I don't know why cause it was really good and already better than last year.

  9. 9

I watched on HBO Go immediately after the first episode aired last week. And then watched it again a few days later. Wait till Sunday to judge on ratings.

Once again the drama creator. I think that HBO knew exactly what they are doing and do not need your advise. It was 4th of July weekend. Family time!! Who cares if it's watched on tv or on the internet, the point is it was watched big time and combining the 2 would show the ratings were just fine for the Holiday weekend. Ugh, you're annoying.

  11. 11

honestly based on the two episodes this season, it already sucks.

  12. 12

I think the first episode did well because it was the season premiere, it was hyped and a lot of people wanted to watch. Or maybe it was because Dish Network gave a free HBO preview weekend the weekend it premiered, so more people had access to watch that show.

  13. 13

Also, the ratings were down b/c the first episode sucked soooo bad, and people quickly lost interest in continuing to watch.

  14. 14

too much dude on dude action…

after waiting sooooo long for it to restart, the premier was sooooo dissapointing that I've not bothered to watch the 2nd episode. Now they are making the Vampires look like Nosferatus and the plots are getting bloodier and more violent. It seems they are no longer "story telling" the episodes just seem to be about how much violence and special effects they can jam into each scene. I don't think I will be watching anymore, I will be happy with just reading the Sookie Stackhouse series and be done with TRUE BLOOD

  16. 16

they shouldve known this would happen lol

I'm in New Zealand so we haven't even started Season 4 yet. Can not wait! Have watched the DVDs and commentaries of Seasons 1-3. All ready to go. So unfair we have to wait (our tv scheduling over here…) but I'll be tuning in regardless

  18. 18

Perez, first episodes ALWAYS brings big crowds no matter what show. 3 million viewers is still a very good average and it usually brought same quantity of viewers. Also it was long weekend!, people travel or stay with family. Not really tune a tv show.

  19. 19

maybe because everyone had a chance to watch it online the week b4 it aired during 4th of july weekend on tv. I was one of them. Ratings are based on tv watching not online.

  20. 20

I thought that was a bad idea to do that.
However, I was thinking more in terms of being a fan, and watching the 2nd episode right after the 1st, and then having to wait TWO more weeks to see a new episode instead of only having to wait one.
I held off watching it until it aired at it's normal date and time.

  21. 21

Dish network also had HBO for free the weekend of the premeier so of course everyone set the dvr - I'm not going to pay for HBO to watch a show I could download an hour after it's over.

  22. 22

its a shitty story….and people dump on Twilight..hhhhaha…

  23. 23

I was telling my co-workers that these 2 episodes have been kind of boring… where is the nudity, the sex, the killing? they better speed up…

  24. 24

It could also be because HBO was free for at&t users who did not already have it that Sunday. So lots of people who don't normally pay and watch HBO watched it that free weekend, I know I did

  25. 25

Everyone watched it after the 1st episode on HBO Go in their devices so that's why the ratings are low 4th of july weekend because we already saw the 2nd episode after the 1st one… Perez is not doing his research again tsk tsk tsk

  26. 26

Thats probably because the majority of the fans watched it online the week before DUMBASS!
