"Bolt Your Doors" Alto, Texas! You Have No Police Officers To Protect You!

A very sad sign of the times!

The small town of Alto, TX has been left defenseless this week as the budget for their police force has been completely CUT! According to official reports:

"In an effort to save money, the city has laid off its police chief and four police officers for six months — longer if Alto’s finances don’t improve."

Those poor people and their families! Just what the hell are they supposed to do now?! Heartbreaking!

What's worse is that they're not the only ones who have to worry about their future. From an outsiders perspective, Alto is just a sleepy Eastern Texas town, occupied by 1,200 hardworking Joes and Janes. But those 1,200 folks are now going to have to fend for themselves in a town that reported 66 crimes last year, well ABOVE the state average.

So what advice does the town's mayor offer his good citizens? "Bolt your doors, buy a gun."

Fantastic! Thanks a lot!

Got to love the recession!

  4. 4

If any of the cops looked like the one in your picture, I might be able to help………..hee hee

  5. 5

That town has never been safer. There's more guns than Armadillios.

  6. 6

Um… is that a picture of Matt Bomer? LMFAO!

  7. 7

Uh you dont need to worry about Texan. Every last one of them is armed to the hilt so they are well protected. Only now the criminals wont have the law to protect them!

  8. 8

It's sad when a community can't even be protected by the police. The United States is becoming a scary place to live.

I live in Westernport, MD….a very small town of a few thousand and we haven't had a dedicated police force for several years. By the time you call the State, Bureau of Police, or Sheriffs office the criminal has been done for an hour or more. It's sad that it comes down to this sort of thing in today's age and time. Small towns are suffering greatly.

Casey Anthony should be released here!!!!

  11. 11

    Matt Bomer…nice choice.

Lets be honest, this is Texas. Texas justice = shoot em if they trespass on your lawn and no one cares. Those people will be fine and any criminals will be DEAD!

My parents live in Nacogdoches, TX which is really close to this town. Alto is TINY. DId no one notice that the police force was literally five people? From what I understand, the people in Alto are just supposed to call the police department in the next town which has a large enough police force to help them as well and can get there in no time. It isn't like it's 100 miles away from every town around it. Nooooot really a big deal.

thank you x president Reagan for starting fucking with the whole country! Thank you president Bush for stealing all the money from the poor and giving it to the rich. Let's keep voting for the republicans! If they keep winning they'll fisnish with the whole country in less than a decade so we won't even worry about anything anymore cause we'll be all dead! :-) for now, let's just blame it on the black guy, right!

I live in Alto, TX and we need just one or two cops, because of the "ghetto" part of town, and alot of night street walkers, but just try to bust a door down in Alto, TX BOOM BOOM The end…of you that is. The town mayor Monty Collins(which I know very well) suggested everybody just buy a gun, and defend their castle, and that is what we will do. And btw @Kathie! Casey Anthony wouldn't make it here. We know who she is even in the wild west. And our sheriffs dept. is doing a great job!

Re: alexie silver – The people of Alto, Texas pay their taxes. Where are their taxes going if they get no police force? I'll bet they keep paying, though.

  17. 17

I am from a very small town in TX, it's a little smaller than Alto and we have never had a police dept. Most small towns don't. We have the county and state police, and that's all we need, well that and our guns. Alto you will be fine :)

I live in alto, texas and it's no bullshit. Alto is on a one-way track to hell. Just recently we have had a bank robbery and all of our 4 stores ( i know we're a small town) have been robbed. Family dollar, pick and go, corner market. Already, everybody was doing drugs in alto, and i know for sure that our drug rate has gone up atleast 50percent. we have had atleast 70crimes just this year, and that's atleast. over 45 cases of larceny, 22 cases of robbery, and 1 auto theft.

Re: blindseylou – The police get there in no time, my ass. Just last year my friend and I were being shot at and we called the police and they came to us like literally 45 minutes later, and that was the alto police, and then they had the audacity to tell us we were lying and said we were in no real danger.

I live in Alto, it does suck that we don't have any cops! I honestly don't think it would be so bad if we wouldn't have had so much media coverage telling the whole world we don't have cops. I have my gun ready, and I am not aiming to just hurt someone! Hope that we can come up with a solution soon!!!

  21. 21

WTF? I live in Wells, which is the next town over from Alto. We got rid of our police department a few months ago, and have had 3 break-ins since then. It sux when something happens and you have to wait 45 minutes or more from a response from the sheriffs dept. Everyone doesn't own a gun here in Texas and those who think we do, proly would be suprised to see that we don't ride our horses to the local watering hole (especially since we don't have one). Just because we are small towns doesn't mean we are ignorant. Some comments on here show just how ignorant people are.

  22. 22

Re: WellsMom – I grew up in Alto, TX and I find it embarrassing that some of you that are posting comments are calling other people ignorant when you can't even use correct spelling and grammer. It is an embarrassing representation of our community. I'm sure people do think we live in the back woods from reading these comments.

I do want to add that I now live in a small community that hasn't had it's own police department in years and we don't have many problems. The main reason Alto has had a rise in crime is because of all the attention from the media. I don't understand why this has become a major issue when there are many small towns that depend on the county police departments. This is not a new issue. Alto is not large enough to require 5 policemen and a chief that did not even work out of the office. I am not saying they should not have one or two on staff but 5 was too much for what they can afford.

  23. 23

I used to live in Alto, too… and Alto is an amazing town! I have some of my greatest memories from that wonderful lill town… & I learned some of my life's most important lessons. I agree that Alto is in dire need of a police department. My family's been there for generations & will remain for generations, GOD willing, and I don't know what they would do should an emergency arise…. as has been happening around town. I must agree with FormerAltonian, this is very embarrassing for all residents, past & present… very aren't just your "run of the mill" hicks… these are teachers, soldiers, nurses, even doctors… not just lazy uneducated hillbillies. These folks work very hard for all that they have & deserve to have protection!!!

  24. 24

Really Alto not bad.If they wasn,t paid 30,000.00 and took a cut in pay they would still be here.Really out of five policeman only two was worth keeping The lady and the older man.And really we depended on cherokee County to protect us anyway.Peoples is making this seen like the worst thing that ever happen. They know once you call any police and put them in your life you will be dealing with them for ever. And there is no ghetto in Alto.

  25. 25

Re: Jurassic – hummm let see the dollar store was broken into last year we had policeman,B&B was broken into and hummm we had policeman,.Houses was broken into and guess what we had policeman.Come on peoples
