final issue of news of the world sells ridiculous amounts

Despite the controversy over News of the World hacking cell phones of 9/11 victims, the paper's final issue sold ABSURD amounts!

According to the latest numbers, the paper sold 3.8 MILLION COPIES on Sunday!!!

We obvi have major issues with the phone hacking claims against NOTW, but we'll admit we were happy to hear that advertising space in the issue was provided free of charge for charities/good causes.

Guess we'll see which paper fills the void for Brits now that NOTW is gone…

I'm calling bullshit on this. There were 5mil copies printed (so if it did sell over 3mil then that would still be a lot less than had been printed), other 'official figures' claim they sold over 4mil. BUT numerous newsagents and supermarkets refused to stock the papers and in the ones that were there were huge numbers left over, I saw the stacks in my local newsagent, I'v seen pics of newsagents around the country where NOTW was the only paper left on the stand. Who bought those extra papers? Where from?

That's actually less than half the amount they normally sell. They had 7.5 million readership before all the phone hacking came to light. The worry now is that this is only the beginning and that we will soon find out that all the papers owned by news international are caught up in this. The best outcome is for news international to close shop and BSkyB to be left alone by Murdoch.

Re: Jennie1986 – 7.5mil? where did you get that figure from? the notw sales figures were around 2.5mil according to every figure i saw.

A "newspaper"? It's absolutely crap, in the UK, it's aka "News of the Screws" or "Screws of the World" because that's the base level at which it operates. Good riddance.
