News Of The World Editor's Final Address To Staff!

| Filed under: Legal MattersInspirationSad SadBusiness Blitz

Such a shame that it had to end this way - especially with so many innocent journalists losing out due to the mistakes of a mere few.

Hours before News of the World published its last edition on Saturday following a massive phone hacking scandal, editor Colin Myler addressed his staff by standing on top of a desk and telling them to leave the publication with their heads held high.

Ch-ch-check out the speech (above)!

Wonderful!

We're so glad they were able to take such a positive attitude and end the paper's 168 year history on a high note, filled with praise and respect!

Well done, all of you!

    "Well Done, all of you."

Why yes, this is exactly what I would say to a bunch of idiotic journos who hacked the mobile phone of a dead schoolgirl, and deleted her voicemail messages, leading her parents to believe she was still alive.

    I hope News Corp burns.

Did you say Praise and Respect? Where have you been. Hacking, breaking in, going beyond the line. Praise and Respect? It should be shut down and Murdock should be investigated.

Bad journalism. These people demand respect and credibility when they haven't earned it, but rather, they've destroyed the profession. No wonder the mediabloggers are taking over - they hold themselves to higher ethical standards than these idiots do.

This makes me really sad. NOTW was always one of my top-5 favorite sites, and i'm very sad to see it go. But even more so, it sucks how it had to happen. In that note that Mr. Murdoch wrote, he said that more stuff would be coming out, and boy has it. Yes, it makes me sick to think of some of the disgusting things they did, but I don't believe it should be blaimed on everyone. I certainly hope that the good ones have great careers ahead of them. I will miss you, News of The World!!

NOTW was one of the worst examples of gutter journalism out there, true, and it is difficult to imagine that the publication went down due to the mistakes of 'a few.' More importantly here I believe, is the timing of exposing Murdoch's methodology — just when he's trying to get his hands on SKY. I believe Scotland Yard and the British government dealt a very strategic blow here, one with repercussions far beyond closing down a trash tabloid.

The preservation of the empire image meant more than the innocent employees. He didn't have to close it down at all; the paper posts better than respectful numbers. He could have cleaned house and renamed it along with instituting and outlining strict ethical policy. He may have chopped simply to mitigate damage and stop the bleeding to his own organization and its aspirations.
