Looks like someone got fed up with politics.

Kal Penn, best known for his work in the Harold & Kumar franchise, quit acting to focus more on his government interests.

He accepted the role as Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement in 2009.

But, like a lot of guys in politics, he's flip-flopped right back into acting.

Kal will be the newest actor to star in the CBS sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, as a love interest for Robin.

The show's co-creator, Craig Thomas, told reporters:

Robin didn't do a hell of a lot of dating at all [last season]. She was more [immersed in] switching careers.

So fans of the show can probably bet on a lot of making-out for Robin.

How I Met Your Mother comes back September 19!

    He's quit temporarily to go back to acting before now, then he goes back to the same position. I think its just something he's allowed to do sometimes depending on his work schedule.

    Well, this is OLD news. Too busy partying in Australia, I guess.
    Anyway, who didn't see this coming.
    I knew he would come back to acting. Obama was nice and shiny in the beginning, but the luster has come off and the reality of politics was too much for a nice kid like Kal.
    Glad he's back. Leave politics to the politicians, Kal.

    Im king of getting annoyed by people' s comments of how old news are. well, that's the first time I hear about it. some people actually have a life and do not spend all of their time on Internet reading all the celebrity news the first second they appear online.
