Trent Reznor Tells Fans To Boycott Re-Release Of NIN Album

In a move to stick it to the man, Trent Reznor is urging fans to boycott the re-release of his 1989 Nine Inch Nails' album Pretty Hate Machine.

Universal Music record execs are re-releasing the album without any sort of digital re-mastering to improve the sound quality of the original.

Reznor wrote:

NIN fans, don't waste your money on this version of PHM that was just released … a record label bullshit move repackaging the old version. Ignore please.

Wow, that is a pretty shady move. If they're going to re-release, Universal should at least re-master it or include never-before-heard music. Pretty awesome of Trent to go against his label and warn the fans.

Thanks for posting. And thanks to Trent Reznor for letting his fans know what was up.

Yeah yeah because he's so anti-establishment……..
He wrote the music for 'social network' and got the academy award for it, now he's working on another movie soundtrack and he's telling anyone who's willing to listen. He knows very well that the people who want to buy it will buy it and it will just make him look like a cool rockstar or whatever.
Where is his Filipino wife ? Is she allowed to go out of the house yet ?

If your a fan you would already have a copy of this music. Re-releases in the age of digital technology has to be one of the lames things ever. This is already music that has been available for a long time.

  4. 4

Reznor, once again, shows his integrity.

  5. 5

okay i wasn't anyway.. unless they add something exclusive to it.

Re: ParalyZzzZzer – Oh fuck off, troll. I'm not even a NIN fan but T-Rez is an artist with a genuine connection with his fans. Maybe you have a hard time figuring that out in your mom's basement. Anyway, I love his film scores and hope he does more of that.

Why are they re-releasing it? A Reznor approved remaster was released last year. No fan will buy this. From Amazon: The Bicycle Music Company acquired the rights to "Pretty Hate Machine" from a division of Prudential Securities in the spring of 2010. It was Bicycle's intention from the onset to enable Reznor to regain some control of this lost piece of NIN's legacy, resulting in this artist approved 2010 reissue of one of music's most groundbreaking and influential albums.

paralyzzzzzzzzzzzer you are an idiot-he's been anti record industry from day one even releasing his own music for free so the record companies wouldn't squeeg folks of their hard earned money he does sound tracks because frankly instrumental music is what he does best good for him as an artist expanding his horozons beyond what he's commonly known for, just go back to your mom's basement post fake pics of yourself with a dumbassed name and try to sound cool cause frankly this comment and others you have left are complete mindless fails-fuck off!

This ass clown was so busy being an "Anti-Establishment" sex symbol that his managers carted off all his money. He's only Anti Establishment now because he's broke.

Re: eilliM – Ooohh sorry groupie , didn't mean to offend your imaginary bf.
    Now shut up.
Re: sweetpimpdaddy – A. YOU are calling me out for my nickname ? REALLY ?? Ok sweetpimpdaddy ….
    B. It's not a fake photo of me, it's Robb Flynn from Machine Head you moron, you'd think that if i wanted to put up a fake pic of myself i'd choose someone NOT famous.
    C. In case you didn't know Mr 'anti-establishment' has written scores for videogames too and got the NIN logo on the boxes … uh huh.He has also been involved in several lawsuits concerning MONEY .
He and several other losers only started acting as if they were above it when Metallica sued napster over downloading their songs for free because it was such a smart move to do at the time in order to get fans at their side. They saw how Metallica practically shot themselves in the foot over this. These bands make most of their money from live shows, he always complains that he doesn't like big venues - boohoohohohoo - but he always plays them regardless.
You're an idiot and easily manipulated.

NIN and Nirvana, two of the biggest over rated bands of the nineties. They were so "edgy". Why is TREZNOR'S neck the same size as his head??

  12. 12

Re: ParalyZzzZzer – WTF are you babbling about?

  13. 13

the fact that you think Tr would actually care to what anyone on the PEREZ hilton site cares about him is the funniest thing i have ever read. The layout is pink nuff said i guess.

  14. 14

Re: rory777 – Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana aren't even in the same category. There is nothing even remotely similar between them.

And even though you are entitled to your own opinion, I don't believe for one second that you have listened to all of their music. Yeah, maybe you've heard "Closer" on the radio, and maybe you listened to The Downward Spiral once or twice while getting stoned in college, but any person on the planet who has ever heard all of their music would not have said what you did. Trent Reznor is a musical genius. And just because he's gone more mainstream than ever doesn't mean that true fans like myself can downplay work that he's done in the past, or work that he will do in the future. You know, his work may not be your taste. I get that. Even so, there is no way that you can doubt his abilities, or the band's abilities as whole. I mean, I've had such emotional experiences at NIN concerts that I have broke down in tears before. The most emotional moment you've probably had at a concert would be if Britney Spears accidentally had a nip-slip.

But whatever. You wouldn't understand, and that's fine. I don't come here to talk about music, I actually go to real music sites if I want to do that. It's just that I can't stand to see a person down something that they obviously know nothing about.

  15. 15

Wait. Is he talking of the release that was put out many months ago? In the liner notes it said that it WAS remastered and they put allot of effort into it. It also has a bonus track of a Queen cover NIN did… Is Universal maybe putting out another release? I have both the very first release put out in 1989 and the new one just put out, the new one does sound much better than the first…
