Ouch! Double whammy!
Ja Rule was sentenced today to more than two years in federal prison for failing to file more than $3 million in income tax returns for his earnings between 2004 and 2006, which is on top of the two years he's spending in state prison for attempted criminal weapon possession!
The rapper said today prior to the ruling:
"I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money — I'm getting a little choked up — I didn't know how to deal with these finances, and I didn't have people to guide me, so I made mistakes."
He'll luckily be able to serve the majority of both sentences at the same time at the Oneida Correctional Facility in upstate NY, and has also been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.
Hey - could have been a lot worse!
Not knowing that you didn't need to pay taxes isn't really an excuse - so hopefully, he'll know how to handle his finances much better upon his release!
