Summer's Eve's Terrible Attempt At Marketing

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsWacky, Tacky & TrueYouTube

It's so wonderful to see that marketing directly to stereotypes still exists!

Wait, no, we have that wrong. These are offensive.

The new marketing campaign for Summer's Eve feminine wash involves hands that represent vaginas, and borderline racism. So it's both off-putting AND infuriating!

Seriously though, who heads up marketing over there? It seems like they really went out of their way to be as horrible as possible with these. From the voices to the stereotypical content (all hispanic women wear leopard print and revert to spanish when flustered? really?), not a single bit of this makes sense in the "trying to avoid having to do damage control later" department.

We do suppose it's getting them attention, but hey, not ALL press is good press in actuality. We bet this'll stop a lot of people from buying the product.

Check them out and let us know how U feel about the new campaign!

Okay, they might be a little bit stereotypical, but those were some funny ass commercials.

  2. 2

Okay, so maybe it's a little stereotypical, but those are some funny ass commercials.

I actually think these are pretty clever. I wouldn't say it's racist either.

  4. 4

I thought these were original and not offensive at all. I don't get the racism you are talking about. I truly don't see it. But I do know that if there were no hispanic vagina, then you would be saying that was racist too. There is no pleasing somebody when they are trying to create a "scandal".

  5. 5

Funny ass commercials? Um…how about no.

Also, you're a little bit behind Prezzie…saw this on Regretsy first.

  6. 6

And I find it hysterical that the man who promotes La Coacha on his website is complaining that leopard print underwear are stereotypical! lol

  7. 7

i can see the racism in this. but i doubt it was their intention.

  8. 8

lol not racist at all. Perez you love to overblow everything.

  9. 9

Dear Perez, let me fill you in on some details about the vagina. I have one and it is crazy. It may throw beer with an Irish accent, or snort coke with Lindsay Lohan, or even help the elderly walk across the street with a girl scout sash on, whatever the case is, is that these vaginas aren't stereotyping they are just testing the new water and experiencing different cultures. Don't hate we just wanna be fresh.

  10. 10

Stupid commercials. There's nothing funny about them.

  11. 11

When did wearing leopard print and speaking in Spanish when you are mad become negative things? I am not sure what they should be doing "damage control" for. What hispanic woman would possibly be offended by a character that speaks English and Spanish? It is something to be proud of.

For the record, a lot of caucasian women like leopard print too and a lot of other ethnicities go back and forth from English to their own language. I don't see why Perez sees this as a bad thing.

  12. 12

Re: amandanb – Right on, girl!

  13. 13

It is racist, where's the caucasian, asian, etc. suggestive hand commercials!? Why do they get left out? They didn't equally represent everyone! RACIST!

  14. 14

Re: PhilipPreston – They are on the Summer's Eve website, genius. Perez only posted two videos. I know this is hard to believe, but what is posted on perezhilton.com isn't the be all, end all. The black video was a little stereotypical but I think the Hispanic one was more trying to appeal to a Spanish-speaking audience. Very little racism, if any. But the "talking vaginas" aspect is a little odd, haha.

  15. 15

Hey news flash…… Vaginas are self cleaning! Say What now? You mean I don't have to wash, plunge and coat my genitals in artificially scented chemicals to make them appealing? Damn, just think of all the time I'll save not douching or hating my vag! I knew not to punish my privates long before this commercial but they were a great reminder!

  16. 16

Re: r*u*knots – if your vagina is hanging out like your boobs in your topless avatar then I'm sure it gets fresh air and a spit shine everyday.

  17. 17

Loved the latest episode of La Coacha!!!! not. Fuck off, Perez. These commercials aren't racist at all, it's just that you need something to bitch about 24/7. Practice what you preach, dumbass.

  18. 18

Stereotypes exist for a reason..because most of them are true. Case and point..gays are whiny bitches..here you are bitching..See stereotype proven.

On a more serious note are you frigging kidding me? This was obviously done to appeal to hispanics and blacks..both are known to have dirty stanky cootches..so more power to summers eve.

  19. 19

Re: r*u*knots – You must have a foul disgusting smelling vaj then..Ima take a wild guess and say that you're still single. Amirite? or maybe you're dating a troll due to having to lower your standards down to ground zero.

  20. 20

While I can see how these are borderline stereotypical, would you have preferred they both speak in the "stereotypical white girl" way and ignored any type of differences? Its just a silly marketing campaign, and I'm definitely more turned off by talking va jay jays than and stereotyping seen here.

  21. 21

Re: EmsMama – I take it you didn't note his sarcasm?

  22. 22

Re: r*u*knots – So do you not wash your hair or wear deodorant then? Cuz you know, your body takes care of that, too ;)

  23. 23

how is that even remotely racist..?

  24. 24

If I was sure before seeing these, I'm now more certain that the world really is coming to fucing end. Just the fact that there are people that think these are actually "funny" and not at the very least "fucked up" on so many level.. That just shows how doomed we are. This is what you get for all those children of the 60's and 70's doing tons of drugs and than having fucked up offspring. Nope.. No turning back now, we're all fuckin doomed.

  25. 25

    That's will be great.

  26. 26

Perez, when I watched it I din'e even think it was offensive. 1) most races, who know there own languages tend to combine the two. I know, as I'm Arabic. 2) To be fair, Leopard underwear is liked by many other people and not only Hispanic women. 3) even being the slightest bit offended is actually quite offensive as I hate hypocrites. You promote someone called "La Coacha", who is the mot over the top stereotype of all and so much more then what you find offensive. Fucking hypocrite.

  27. 27

Well I'm a woman (unlike Perez) and I didn't find anything wrong with the ad - I thought it was quite original (their point is if your stuck somewhere and you can't shower then use their product) also the thong is worn by her boyfriend (Boo) she's telling him to get rid of it…

  28. 28

Hilton looks the other way when his La Coacha does the same thing. But you do have a lot in common with these ads douche.

  29. 29

I don't see it, bro. I don't see it. Also, what they said. La Coacha….yeah.

  30. 30

Be honest, Hilton. You are simply offended because it IS vagina. Something you can't stomach!

  31. 31

so you're not ok with racism that isn't even there but you are totally fine with being a misogynist?

  32. 32

They're racist. If you aren't Black or Hispanic, refrain from commenting about blatant forms of racism you simply don't understand!

  33. 33

Re: ccmyplaymate – I don't see them as racist; I see them as direct marketing targeting people who are not white. That being said, I'm white, and I think it's entirely appropriate for me to comment on racism seeing as how it's the whites most often accused of being the racists. We're generalized as much as blacks and hispanics are. You know how I feel about racism, but you can't exclude my race from comments and discussions if you're going to have a balanced and informed dialogue. We're part of the race-relation equation too, whether you like it or not. Demanding silence from whites on the matter makes you as guilty of racism and discrimination as some disgusting white people are. You're a better person than that.

  34. 34

You know Perez, not everything has some horrible hidden meaning and not everything is racism or discriminatory! I think you are reading way too much into these ads. i don't find offensive or racist I just find it stupid!!

  35. 35

What the hell, they should sue their advertising company. Not because the commercials are full od sterotypes (even though they are), but because they are just plain stupid!

  36. 36

This appeals to women of color who are far more reluctant to even have discussions about womens hygiene issues. I am astounded by which Perez, you can imagine to put yourself in a womans shoe. Gay =/= woman. And the campaign will make women buy products. Why should ppl not celebrate the idiosyncracies of their ethinicity? You think its appropriate to say ' caliente' to a new latin track but this is racist? Logic, its not for everyone.

  37. 37

Saw their commercial with famous women in history before the Harry Potter movie this weekend and it was funny as SHYTE. The entire audience laughed their asses off–LOVED IT.

    38

It's 100% stereotypical and somewhat racist. I won't buy this product.

  39. 39

i agree! awful! its pretty bad when you can tell what ethnicity they are trying to be instantly, by the sterotypes used!! I think the hand idea could be good and we shouldnt be afraid to talk about our Vagina's, however this is NOT the way to go about it!! It def makes me NOT want to purchase any of their products!!

  40. B0red says – reply to this

    40

    hardly racist.

  41. 41

You can debate over whether they're racist or stereotypical but you can't deny that they're pretty annoying…

Re: NookiesWA – Are you fucking kidding me rascist much!
And as far as these commercials go i dont find them rascist or offensive at all.

  43. 43

Re: jhamRe: polochicRe: MLshocK – agreed and at MLshock when this world does end it'll be for the better too much ignorance and hate in this world.

  44. 44

And how much were you paid by Summer's Eve to help create a non scandal?

  45. 45

So do they want me to wipe my hands?? LOL

  46. Mtl23 says – reply to this

    46

I feel dumber from watching that

  47. @v@ says – reply to this

    47

They weren't 'reverting to Spanish when flustered.' They covered the african american demographic in the first one, and lumped in both the caucasian and spanish women in the second ad. I was prepared to be offended, but it was kind of funny. Ads directed at women go farther than ads at men ever have, but I think they'll sell a lot of this product, because they spell out the uses very well. They could have done it without the talking hand V.

  48. 48

I'm not really offended by these commercials, but I do think they are pretty lame and annoying. Seems like something a high school kid would write. Not very clever.

  49. 49

Oh, I see Perez. So what you are saying is that, when you see ONE Hispanic woman do or say something, you assume ALL Hispanic women do the same thing. Your Quote:

"all hispanic women wear leopard print and revert to spanish when flustered? really?"

Which means only that YOU are the racist, not the commercial.
