Might be time to invest in some bluetooth headsets!
Starting next month, officials in Philadelphia, PA will put more of an effort into enforcing their Give Respect, Get Respect program, which is "aimed at reining in bad behavior by motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians in Center City."
Along with drivers/bikers who don't follow the rules of the road, Philadelphia police will be targeting people who are texting while walking without looking ahead of themselves.
Here's what the city had to say about it in a statement:
"Pedestrians may be reminded to be more aware of their surroundings; however, there are no citations issued by the PPD (Philadelphia Police Department) for texting while walking. If a Philadelphia police officer observes a driver, cyclist or pedestrian participating in any kind of potentially dangerous behavior, the officer will remind them to be careful."
Sounds like an ambitious plan by Philadelphia. Guess we'll see if pedestrians are able to walk around the city without sending out crucial messages to friends like "c u soon" or "k."
Do U text while walking? Would U be able to walk without constantly sending messages on your phone?
