Sen. Al Franken Calls BS On Anti-Gay Rep's Testimony

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayOops!PolitikSad SadSadeLGBT

According to a representative for the anti-gay group, Focus on the Family, a study found families with opposite-sex parents to be overall healthier and happier.

Senator Al Franken checked the study out for himself, and found Tom Minnery misrepresenting the information found in the study.

The study stated nuclear families are overall healthier and happier, and the study also defined nuclear families to be 'one or more children living with two parents who are married to one another and are each biological or adoptive parents to all the children in the family.'

When asked why he misrepresented the study, Mr. Minnery stated he believed a nuclear family to be headed by a man and a woman.

Guess he didn't get a chance to read the footnotes…

Senator Franken concluded:

And I frankly don't really know how we can trust the rest of your testimony if you are reading studies these ways.

Way to go, Franken!

We believe Mr. Minnery truly believed what he said, but that's actually a good thing. Hopefully this example can bring to light how common it is for people to be ruled by their ignorance.

Way to go Senator Franken! lol

These politicians should have their sources checked more often. They need to be held accountable for what they claim to be true - like the ridiculous Planned Parenthood figures that some idiot pulled out of a hat.

  3. 3

pretty damn accurate. For a race that more or less relies upon sex with the opposite sex for reproduction, it should go with out saying. Gays need to get used to the fact that 99% of the worlds population is straight and of that 90% are inwardly disgusted by the gay lifestyle, whether they will admit to it and have to endure a public flogging or not. Gays, fit around society instead of trying to make society fit around you, thats the quickest way to equality. Screaming loudest doesnt make you a majority.

Hilton..where did you get that they are an anti-gay organization. They say that the nurture and defend families, sounds pretty solid to me.

    THIS. IS. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: buck – You're a fool if you think what you just said has a sliver of truth to it. They may not define themselves at "anti-gay" but you're grasping at straws. This organization adamantly opposes any equal treatment to gay people fighting for EQUAL rights to hetersexuals. I caplock equal because I'm sure somebody will try to say the rights are "special". They're not. They're equal.

Two GOOD parents (of any gender) are better than just one. Only makes sense. But two BAD parents, even if a father and a mother, are worse than one good gay or lesbian parent.

Truth is, these straight people are responsible for most of the Gay people living in the world. Truth is, you will have a Gay relative somewhere, someday soon. Truth is, this is the type of thinking and comment that creates hurt, pain, and sadness to Gay people you don't even know. Truth is: what one sows, so shall they reap. Praise God for the truth!

    Re: buck
These groups need to stand and defend ALL families, including Gay families. Instead they pour obscene amounts of money into initiatives to take away rights from Gay people. Money that could be used to feed, house, and provide families who could use it. So it has just become a fight of the ego for them. No wonder that they are now reaping what they sowed.

How do these assclowns, who are a hate group according to the S&P Law Center, have ANY standing whatsoever to peddle their bullshit? Were the Klan and the Neo-Nazi party there too?

  11. 11

I see no reason why homosexuals can't be good parents and offer stable, secure households in which to raise children.

Re: SpiceGuy – the sound like they are for equality … every man has the right to find a nice woman, settle down and have a family and they are definding that right….doesn't sound anti-gay (whatever that means) to me. Hilton is just showing how common it is for him to be ruled by his ignorance

They pour obscene amounts of money into initiatives to take away the rights of Gay people, hurting them and their families. This money could be used towards helping poor, starving and homeless families, instead. It's no wonder these groups are now reaping what they sowed.

Re: buck – So then you'd be willing to say that Focus on the Family is in complete support of gay families being equally as healthy as straight families in raising children and should be provided with equal benefits and protections under state and federal law?

Re: steve leong – this group actually set aside large sums of money for counselling for gays, counselling that has proven to work and help lead to normal life style.

  17. 17

That was fucking awesome - well done Al

  18. 18

Re: rosebud99 – Absolutely agree with you

  19. 19

Re: steve leong – Pretty harsh response to a reasonable response. What does this have to do with feeding the poor? I agree we are either gay, related to gays or know many gays. That doesn't mean everyone has to agree with Franken.

  20. 20

Re: steve leong – that was awesome too - thank you

  21. 21

I think what is so great about these sorts of discussions - both in the video and below in the comment section - is watching day by day, argument by argument, the logic of those who try to say that being gay is not normal, wrong, unhealthy, etc. just continue to slip down the slope of logic. I encourage people like buck to keep talking. Please. You do so much good for the fight for equality.

  22. 22

Go AL!!!Re: Truth_Is_A-Virus – ….Gotta scream sometimes to get the point across- gays are not going to be misunderstood and discriminated against, period. Ignorace and intolerance has gone on long enough…AND your numbers are skewed-99% of the popluation is not straight…google please….I highly doubt that 90% are disgusted considering the amount of gays and bisexuals there are in this world (certainly more than 10% of the popluation)…WHERE you live (I am guessing a small sheltered town) people may think the way you do because they are ignorant and closed-minded, however when you step out in the REAL world, you will find that you are just one backwards fool!!! Open your eyes and experience some diversity…better yet, live in NYC, SF or L.A. for awhile…You will see a world much different from your all lilly hetero intolerant world you live in….Sad that your beliefs are so narrow…wake up!!!!

  23. 23

Re: buck – I would need to see the proof - bet you any money spent will not go to helping them but will focus - no pun intended- on breaking up the already established family - I think your possibly very gullible if you think focus on the family will help gay families in any fashion - as they are not qualified or willing to

Re: SpiceGuy – oh i see…being gay is now normal , mainstream, healthy…thank for clearing that up. you sound like you belong to the anti-religious party

  26. 26

Re: La Garse – Thank you….I have neighbors and family members who are gay and lesbian raising children…all are fine, respectful, bright loving people…It is ridiculous to think it would be any other way…Being a loving, supportive, well-adjusted parent is what is needed…whatever the gender…With all the "hetero" broken homes, and all the nightmarish things that can also happen in a "hetero" family, I have seen the gay families to be exemplary and excellent….They want to the best for their children and REALLY want a family…cannot say that about everyone in this world…

  27. 27

Re: sanfran1 – I sometimes wonder if some of the percentage of the population who are "disgusted by" or "against" homosexuality are actually people who completely fail to understand same-sex attraction but don't have that as a response option when polled. Take me, for example. I'm heterosexual, and though I understand that there are individuals who are attracted to their own sex, I just don't grasp how that could be possible. This doesn't mean that I'm against homosexuality. It means that it's an experience so foreign to me that I can't imagine how it feels or what it's like. I wonder, if that was a response option provided by pollsters, how high that would rate on the scale.

  28. 28

Re: steve leong – My bad…I didn't catch the "married" definition in the report. The report is BS.

  29. 29

like the bumper sticker says - focus on your own family BITCH

  30. 30

Re: buck – Keep talking - we are all giving you enough rope for you to hang yourself - glad I could clear that up for you - And a question - if you are so against gays -wtf are you doing on here - glutton for punishment? It's okay with me - I need me an idiot to pick on today

  32. 32

Re: buck – Well liberal or not - we love laughing at you - You are I bet white, middle aged, fat and a real pain in the ass to those that are forced to be around you- I know your type - Your angry and I would be too if i never got laid - so go for it - I love fighting with ding dongs - Love it

    Re: alrightalright – You're - whoops

Re: buck – I'm not anti-religious at all. I'm not anti-straight either. What I don't do is contribute to making other people in this world feel worthless or less than… unlike you buck.

They didn't vote Al in because of his looks. His intelligence and clarity of thought preceded his getting elected.
