Dreamworks' Jeffrey Katzenberg Says This Year's Movies "Suck"

Ouch! Tell us how you really feel.

Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has some pret-ty harsh words for the latest big studio movies that have come out this year.

He asked the audience at Fortune magazine's Brainstorm Tech conference for a show of hands "if the last seven or eight months of movies is the worst lineup of movies you've experienced in the last five years of your life."

We're sure that must have caused some jaw dropping!

He added with:

"They suck.

It's unbelievable how bad movies have been, right? For sure, the bloom is off the rose for a moment in time, driven by a singular and unique characteristic that only exists in Hollywood: greed."

Funny coming from a guy who has been one of the biggest advocators of 3-D technology. Honestly, though, we kind of agree with him. It seems that movies are nothing but remakes, reboots, sequels, or just simple stories relying on special effects and the latest technology.

Do U agree with Katzenberg?

agree with you perez this douche is part of the problem with hollywood there is nothing original happening anymore and these non talented actors/actresses is part of the problem along with this impressionable generation

  2. 2

he's right, but hasn't he heard that you should be the change you wish to see in the world? i took my little sister to see kung fu panda 3d, and it was pretty crap

  3. 3

I agree with him i have only seen like what? 5 or 6 truly good movies this year. Its pretty sad and most films now lack acting and even with the special effects just look plain cheap.I remember back in the day when 10 original films would be released like every week. Now you cannot even get that in a a year.

  4. 4

He is 100% right. This year they kept cranking out terrible movies devoid of originality for the sole purpose of making money, not for the purpose of creating art or artistic entertainment.

And this is news?? Movies have been sucking FOR YEARS!! I've only been to a handful of movies in the last few years - because nothing good is playing!! The 80's was the best movie era by far, they were just fun! Bring back the '80's!!!

And the highest grossing movie of all time just opened last weekend… This guy is an idiot.

    Then this idiot said

    "They suck.

It's unbelievable how bad movies have been, right? For sure, the bloom is off the rose for a moment in time, driven by a singular and unique characteristic that only exists in Hollywood: greed."

Um yeah right.. like you're not greedy.. YOU FOOL.

  7. 7

    Well, they do.

  8. 8

And he's speaking in general. Look at the entire lineup of movies for the year. Not the one or two sequels that made bank.

  9. 9

i beleive hes talking about most of the movies from all studios since the writers strike either about jews in ww2 or violent freak movies now they are branching back to sci fi its improving but cant they see the shit they churn out half of it isnt even watchable or self righteous shit like save the world from companies sucking up the worlds resources to make there shit ass movies . BUNCH OF HACKS!

he 100% right the only good movies I can think of this year is just harry potter and the deathly hollows par 2 and transformers 3. everything else is shit. other than those 2 films i mention no other movie has made bigger than 20 to 30 million on one weekend which has no one is interested in them. I hope this year it shows hollywood writers/producers/directors. to start being so fucken lazy and do something original hollywood is going downhill we have low standards on actors and actresses these days that all the movies suck. i agree with the above posts the 80's was the best era in movies same with music. everything original and massive creativity and brialliant writing and iconic movies in pop culture for example breakfest club, teen wolf etc.

this entire year is about reboots, sequals, and remakes never miss up with the classics.

the only series that is going down as classic movies in this decade is just the harry potter series they already made there mark in history as classic films. that should never be remake, or rebooted.

    He is right!!
Last years movies were unmatchable to be honest.
2010 was excellent… Inception, The Fighter, Kings Speech, Social Network….
there isnt even anything to look forward to except sure to be crap fest "Contagion"

While he might be part of the problem, he IS right. There have been VERY FEW good movies out in the last few years. Even less great movies. People are creating mindless crap because that's what's selling, and unfortunately it's going to continue for a while. 2012 will be the year of the superhero sequel/reboot, so it won't be much better. Hopefully with time people things will change.

  14. 14

I agree with him. Only 1 movie has been good this year and that was that XMen movie. And I agree with the person who said movies have been sucking for years, I agree. Especially the horror and comedy genre have been sucking. The horror movies are pretty much just gore and are hardly any storyline, same with comedy, barely any story line or it doesn't make sense. But when movies that are good like The Road, The Collector, District 9, Traitor, Pandorum, The Perfect Getaway, I Saw The Devil and etc they aren't grossing high or aren't given much attention.

  15. 15

Writers and Directors look at whatever is grossing high and they take from that. So until people stop supporting stupid movies like the Saw Sequels, The Twilight Saga(the saga is corny, hardly any action, it's pretty much just romance and who wants to see romance like 90% throughout a movie that is suppose to be about Vampires and Wolves?), Final Destination, and etc than we will see good movies in the future.

  16. 16

Why do you think there are more Razzie contenders than Oscar contenders?

  17. 17

btw: it's because writers are not respected in the film industry anymore. bottom line.

  18. 18

This arrogant asshole and his cronies are the reasons why Hollywood sucks!
