91-confirmed-dead-in-oslo-attacks

Such horrific and unnecessary loss of innocent life.

In light of yesterday's devastating bombing attacks and shooting spree in Oslo, Norway, authorities there have now confirmed that 91 have died, many of whom were teenagers at a youth camp.

As we've reported, the gunman was dressed as a police officer when he opened fire at the youth wing of Norway's ruling labor party.

The suspect is now being reported as Anders Behring Breivik (above), who is a member of an extreme-right group and deludes himself into believing that this means he's a "nationalist."

Police chief Svinung Sponheim said that according to internet postings by Breivik, he has "some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views."

Awful. We can't even begin to imagine what would allow someone to be capable of such callous disregard for human life.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all those in Norway and around the world who have been affected by this.

92 people has passed away. I was in the supermarket when they turned on the radio and I heard the news. It was just silent for a few seconds and I saw the shock on the people standing around me.
I moved to Norway a year ago but Norway is my home now. It affected me as much as any other norwegian. I still can't believe this happened..

  2. 2

92, get your facts right Perez

  3. 3

I feel bad for the people of Norway. It's such a peaceful country :(
The worst thing is, so many people died just because of one person's twisted views. My heart goes out to all of those who lost their lives because of this horrible person.

  4. 4

I just heard a girl from my school got shot at Utøy.. RIP Maria

  5. 5

At TrannyTakesATuble2, was your comment supposed to be funny? I didn't find it funny at all. 92 people were just killed by a crazy man and you're making jokes about it? Are you serious? Wow you're a horrible person.

  6. 6

This guy and Jared Loughner should get a room, and fuck each other while they get stoned to death. Fuckers!

  7. 7

It's such a shock.. Last night the police could confirm 10 dead at the youth camp, and 7 dead from the bombing.. When I turned on my computer this morning and got to the newspaper's websites, it was 84 dead confirmed.. I started crying right away, this is so horrific.. It feels like these two days have been nothing but a funeral.. 92 now confirmed dead.. And still a lot of kids are missing..

This is so very tragic. I will never understand why these acts of terrorism occur. My heart hurts for the loved ones of the people who were murdered and I hope all of those innocent souls are at peace. You expect these monsters to look like monsters and it is so disturbing to see they look like normal people who you would never expect to do this. So sad.

  9. 9

Re: LiseH92 – I know I had exactly the same this morning.. I only had 4 hours of sleep because I couldn't stop feeling sick. I have goosebumps ever since the attack and now I know why. Maria may you RIP..

  10. 10

THIS is what people should be sad about…not some junkie singer! Rest in peace to the people in Norway

    11

Re: Heaven_Oblivion_Bliss – - NEWS FLASH****We can actually be sad about both. Imagine that…people can actually have enough empathy within them to grieve both horrible events. If someone you loved died due to drugs, would you want people saying "just another dead junkie"? People really show their true colors when they are hiding behind their keyboards.

  12. 12

    Horrible news. Sad, sad, sad!

  13. 13

Re: Kdel – It's ok to be sad about both. But there is a BIG difference!! Amy Winehouse wasted her life away, most of those killed here in Norway were just kids, eager in politics and to make a change.. They were killed just because of one man's craziness. Amy Winehouse being dead isn't a shock, it's a wonder she lived this long.. And I've lost a family member because of an overdose, but that wasn't a shock.. It was expected.. This happening was not!

    15

Last time I watched the news it changed from 89 to 91. One more after that. That's even more sad and SHAME on all you haters using those poor souls for your personal hate.

  16. 16

It's amazing how some of the most vile people can be so good-looking; this guy is a perfect example of that. Would any of us look at him and think he'd be capable of so much harm? If one is unhappy about something, there are more constructive ways to get one's point across and effect change than by killing innocent people. If violence is the only thing one has to resort to, then one's cause is wrong. I don't know what the laws are in Norway, but this guy is a perfect candidate for execution if he's found guilty under the law. I see no reason to burden society and taxpayers by keeping someone alive and in prison for decades; he should be able to keep his own life only if he can restore the lives he took.

    17

Hannah Arendt's "banality of evil" fits this mass murdering miscreant perfectly. A normal looking person with no soul, no humanity. Condolences to the victims families, and to Norway.

    18

Re: LiseH92 – - I never compared the 2 tragic events, just said that they are both very sad. Obviously almost 100 murdered innocent victims is different than a young talented singer overdosing (if that is in fact what happened). It's all just very sad and I wish they were all still on this earth.

  19. 19

Hateful creature. Clearly so psychotic. Calm, calculated, pure evil. How could he buy 6 toones of explosives under the guise of buying for a farm? Are there others supporting him or was he a lone ranger? I just wish his explosives had killed him when he tried to make that bomb. Now he's in that police station, how those cops can hold themselves back from beating him to death I will never know. At 32 he has 40 - 50 years he might be incarcerated. How can he be allowed to live, paid for, assisted to 'live' by his country. He deserves to be publically executed. Yes, it won't bring anyone back, but he doesn't deserve to breathe. A true monster.

Re: Bates – I dropped my iPad and this took off before I was finished. So what happened to the real one?

  22. 22

Re: La Garse – We do not have death sentence in Norway, he will get 21 years in jail + civil commitment I guess you could call it.. That means that he will be sentenced for life.. I feel that death would be an easy way out for him.. I'm normally against torture, but this time… I wish we could get a pillory for him!

  23. 23

thats just fucked up. and where'd that glamour shot come from?

  24. Bates says – reply to this

    24

I read in The New York Times that the maximum he could get for murdering 92 people is 21 years. I am not pro death penalty, but I could make an exception for this monster.

  25. 25

Re: Bates – 21 years +++. He'll be in jail for life, I don't know what you call it.. But we have a law that says a sentence + civil commitment I guess.. But trust me, he'll never get out off jail!

  26. 26

Re: LiseH92 – Ah … thank you for clarifying about the law in Norway. :)
    .
I understand what you're saying about death being an easy way out for him, so I have to ask, what are the prisons like there? Will life in prison be a true punishment, or will it be like the inadequate prison system of the U.S. where inmates are coddled because of their "rights?"

  27. 27

This is so sad :-( and it shows to the ignorant idiots that it's not always Islam behind terrorism, anyone could be dangerous…

  28. 28

Re: La Garse – The prisons here in Norway are way too good.. A lot of rejected immigrants usually commit small, but serious enough crimes so that they can stay in Norway, by being sent to jail. So it's safe to say that Norwegian prisons are way to nice! Hopefully this terrible thing that happened will change some things.. If not the death sentence, at least change the prisons and how the inmates are being treated!

  29. 29

    Re: LiseH92

Agree with the torture comment. I think he should be bricked up in a cell, with minimal water, sanition and enough tins for a few years, until he starves to death.

Or he should be posted a vile of arscenic after extreme deprivation so he can do himself in and no-one need get their hands dirty.

These mass spree killers need to suffer. If they think they are 'martrys' their suffering should be endless for what they've inflcited.

Re: nowwhat? – It wasn't explosives he had bought it was fertilizer. It's some kind of chemical in the fertilizer which makes it possible to use in bomb making.

    31

Re: LiseH92 – I hope you are right. I'm just repeating what I read, and if it is true, it is not just wrong, but an insult to the 92 lost souls, and their families.

  32. 32

Re: Kdel – Well if they were a junkie..then ya! The thing is, with Amy, everyone saw it coming..no one did anything to help her and NOW they are sad??? Get a damn life! Everyone just sat back and watched this trainwreck unfold..and to make themselves feel better post "thoughtful" messages after she finally succumbed? …please.

  33. 33

Re: La Garse – I was thinking the exact same thing!.

  34. 34

Re: TrannyTakesATumble2 – You are despicable making a joke of this….I knew you were a hater, but not also a souless/heartless being….Why is it that when you hear about these violent, trigger happy men, they are "right wingers"….Very sad, regardless….

  35. 35

    He's the best looking terrorist…EVER!

  36. 36

After all, norwegians (and all scandinavians) should think more seriosly about the spread of the right beliefs in their countries (I think in Sweden the right wing also won seriously the last elections), instead of preventing an eventual attack from outside (closing for Schengen contries at the moment).

  37. 37

I'm from Norway so I can confirm, 21 years s the max prison sentence you can receive in Norway. However in addition you can get further years under custody..

Such a tragedy, targeted killing and murdering of young engaged kids in politics..

  38. 38

Translate your thoughts and prayers into a donation to the Norwegian Red Cross. Tranny2's sociopathic post is still up, but my link to the Red Cross got deleted. Go figger.

  44. 44

Re: luvs2tango – It's also why you have so many accidental killings, and so many school shootings. And in what way is it normal to carry a gun at summer camp?

  45. 45

R.I.P for all of those people and I feel so sorry for their families.

@Pam's Triple-Filled Silicone Breasts- to bad he obviously doesn't have his heart on the right place. But then again, according to you looks are more important. F**k you.

  47. 47

    Unbelieavable.

  48. 48

They need to give this guy the death penalty, seriously.

  49. 49

perhaps they should send him to Texas!!! we know what penalty he would get!!

  50. 50

So, so terrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones today! RIP to those whose lives were taken too soon.

    51

Re: Heaven_Oblivion_Bliss – - Oh I get your point. You said that you wouldn't give a shit if one of your family members died due to an overdose. Once one hears that nothing else matters because it proves you are an asshole. The people posting thoughtful comments about Amy didn't know her personally but rather knew her through her music and the struggles she was going through and that is what they are expressing. Nobody can stop an addict…especially a rich one. She was unfortunately not strong enough to beat her addiction in time and that is sad. You are a weirdo. Go away.

  52. 52

this is truly a sad situation. norway is a neutral, peaceful country, so it is really shocking to hear such an awful thing like this occurred. my heart goes out to the loved ones of those who died. such an unnecessary tragedy.

  53. 53

sheesh this guy looks like a model hard to beleive hes a mass murderer a effed up brain in that head

  54. 54

Re: Kdel – Yup. Confirmed..you didn't get it. I will even quote you.. "If someone you loved died due to drugs, would you want people saying "just another dead junkie"?" I suppose I wouldn't want to hear it but because they aren't a superstar singer..I would hear it. People say it everyday about junkies. At no point did I say I wouldn't give a shit. My point was Amy wasn't clueless about what could happen to her..junkies know what will happen. I just think its sad that she is the top news story, when 92 innocent people were shot to death. I do however find it interesting that you talk about "true colors" and all you have done is attack and bully my opinion, and you call me weird?

  55. 55

This is truly awful. My heart goes out to those people in Norway who have lost friends and family members. Rest in Peace.

  56. 56

I'm still in a shock.. First I heard it on the radio and I was hyper, I mean: this isn't something for Norway.. And than I heard about Utøya..
Yesterday I got the news that a girl from my school has been murdered by this man..

But still.. I can't say it was good but.. I think we're lucky that it was a norwegian.. Just imagine what happened if it was a person from another country? Norway in war is even a more horrible thought..

  57. 57

Re: xxMaikexxx – Actually you are not lucky that he is norwegian, it is really pity that a norwegian can make this to his own country….

  58. 58

At least 93 dead. Jeg håper alle som er berørt av dette får den trøsten, styrken og hjelpen de trenger til å komme igjennom dette.

  59. 59

Re: ana125 – It IS lucky that it was a Norwegian. This way it will hopefully crate more solidarity between all races in our country. One of my childhood friends was killed by this man, and it's shocked me to the very core! Look what happened in the states when it was foreigners behind 9/11.. It caused such a split in the American society.. Hopefully this happening will cause a tighter community between ALL races in Norway.

  60. 60

The shooter wiped away a generation of future politicians who all represented beliefs he hated. It's an enormous blow to the democracy of not only Norway but also all of Europe.

Nevermind his nutty "manifesto" - I still believe that love, tolerance and human decency will prevail.

  61. 61

Re: La Garse – In Norway we don't have death penalty. Our maximum punishment is 21 years. A prison-year is 9 months. So he will be out after 15/16 years if they don't change the rules for him.I hope they will. Maybe one life-sentence per victim?

  62. 62

Re: Sunnyk85 – Of course he won't be out after 15-16 years.. 21 år med forvaring? Og mest sannsynlig får han 21 år med forvaring for alle livene han tok. Han er jo siktet for terror.

  63. 63

    Re: Heaven_Oblivion_Bliss – Well Said!!

  64. 64

    I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17

inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to

our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay

expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46

inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me

$52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get

    all this stuff, BidsGet.com

  65. 65

If one man can create so much hate, think about how much love we can create together

  66. 66

An earlier comment I made was very insensitive and I regretfully take it back. While I still stand by the fact that America is more concerned by what happens in every one elses country (and hell apparently more concerned with the death of a "celebrity" ) then they are real tragedies that occur within our own nation. My original comment on another thread was rude, insensitive and I am ashamed I even made it. So i do apologize to anyone who was hurt by my statements. And I hope those who lost someone in this tragedy find sollace in the memories they shared with the people they lost.

  67. 67

Re: La Garse – They don't have death penalty in Norway. The hardest penalty he can get is 21 years in prison, then they do a valuation, and if they think he might be a danger to other people he won't be let out.
and you know, to give someone a death penalty actually costs more than keeping them in prison for the rest of their life.
