Judge In Casey Anthony Trial Will Delay Releasing Names Of Jurors, For Their Protection

judge wont release juror names yet in casey anthony trial

Probably a smart move. These folks are not exactly what you would call "popular" right now.

Judge Belvin Perry, who presided over the Casey Anthony trial, has announced that he won't release the names of the jurors until Oct. 25 at the earliest.

Here's what he had to say about it in a statement:

"The jurors in this case face the possibility of substantial injury if their names are immediately made public. [The names won't be released] until sufficient time has passed to allow those enraged by the verdict and who might instinctively react with violence to compose and restrain themselves."

The judge also went on to call out the media for their treatment of the trial:

"It was reported that television ratings for the trial were extraordinary. Clearly, the broadcast of an official and serious court proceeding such as this trial where a young girl was dead and her mother faced the death penalty devolved into cheap, soap-opera-like entertainment."

More than anything else, we're just glad to hear those names won't be released yet. There are definitely WAY TOO MANY pissed off people right now. We support the judge's decision there.

What do U think about this decision? Do U think that the jurors would be in danger if their names were released?

Anger and sadness for the death of a little girl does not go away. They are enraged now, and they will be enraged on October 25th. Does not make a difference.

I don't know much about American law but is it not possible to delay releasing the names for even longer? These people are in real danger if anyone finds out who they are or where they are. People shouldn't be put in danger by participating in a jury.

I'm surprised their names aren't simply leaked out — certainly their friends and neighbors know who they are. It seems like it would be simple to find out who these brainless assholes are.

While I agree that the media — and the guttersnipes like you, Perez — was OTT in covering the trial, I disagree with Judge Perry in his judgment of the interest of the public. It was an opportunity for millions to see our justice system, however, flawed, in action. The problem with the coverage was people like Nancy Grace, who tried and convicted Anthony long before the trial ever started. Considering Grace's background, that's as outrageous as it is stupid, and that woman should have her tongue cut out.

Perez, you say now that you support the delay in releasing the names of the jurors. But here's the sad thing: You'll be among the rush of legitimate journalists (not you) and the no-talent hacks (you) gleefully posting those names when they're finally released. Should they remain confidential? Yes. The potential for thoughtless retribution for the verdict puts them in danger, and no one should EVER face that because they did their civic duty.

There is no reason to release these people's names…they didn't volunteer for the job of being a juror.

I would sue the county if they were going to release my name and put my children and family in danger.

why should their names be released? that's no one's business. That's like doctor patient confidentiality.

I don't get why Nancy Grace is being blamed so much..Im not American, so really the only coverage we got was internet and some American stations..Im curious to why a television personality is so influential to people there?? Sure, she's a loud mouth moron, but aren't people capable of their own thoughts?? I agree with Re: glamourextra – on this one, it's not like they volunteered to be involved with such a high profile case..

They're doing pretty good at leaking their own damn names to the media so far.

Re: La Vaquera – at least they did their duty and served unlike some slag like you who tries so hard to get out of it every time!
