A new Tales From The Crypt show is being shopped around networks right now, but it isn't very similar to the show that we all loved for terrifying us from 1989-1996.
The good news is that it has two great people behind it. First is the producer from the original Tales show, Gil Adler, so he knows the material. Second is Andrew Cosby, who co-created the wonderful Eureka on the SyFy Channel (For a moment we almost wrote "Sci-Fi Channel" because it makes automatic sense and the rebranding was stupid.).
This new version will not be an anthology nor will it be related to the HBO show, but will instead be a serialized version “that uses characters from the comic books in a more modern context.” The producers are expected to take the show to both broadcast and cable networks shortly with a detailed pitch and bible in hand for the new show. The report mentions that Cinemax has showed interest, as the sister-channel to HBO is now returning to original programming.
We're not sure how we feel about this! We'll have to hear a little more about the planned format before we jump on board. It'd be awesome if they just started the original show back up again with brand new episodes — and we hope they keep they Cryptkeeper!
How do U feel about this news??
