Parents Televison Council Vs. NBC: Playboy Edition

ptc wants playboy club off the air

The Parents Television Council (PTC) are at it again!

Last we heard from the PTC, they were trying to get Rihanna's new video off of BET…but they failed.

Looks like they're not letting that get them down though, because now they're calling for NBC affiliates to NOT air The Playboy Club, which premieres in September, because it "glorifies and glamorizes" the pornography industry.

Here's what PTC president Timothy F. Winter had to say about it:

"Putting a veneer of sophistication on an industry that exploits women and destroys families is not laudable, it is disgraceful. Whatever positive spin you may wish to put on the series, it is undeniably a betrayal of the trust you have built over the years with America's families — the owners of the broadcast airwaves that you will be using to force this content into the living rooms of every family in your community."

We would understand where the PTC were coming from if the show were going to air earlier in the day, but the fact is it will be airing at 10 p.m. It's reasonable for a network to air adult-oriented content during that time slot. If it were 3 p.m., that would be different!

Do U agree with the Parents Television Council? Should NBC drop The Playboy Club?

The end result of their complaint is the ratings will go up thanks to their attention. They are probably right, but this kind of thing only wants to make even more people watch. instead of complaining about what they don't like, maybe they should be way more vocal and draw attention to what they do like.

  2. 2

These fuckers simply need to not watch the show. Always trying to dictate other people's lives. Typical right-wing conservative lunatic behavior.

  3. 3

No the PTC is a bunch of idiots they wont stop til we are all watching wizards of waverly place forever

  4. 4

What Bull Shit. Speaking as some one who works in the media, it's a general feeling when it comes to content aired later at night, if your child is ACTUALLY still up when "offensive" content is on, then you as a parent should be REALIZING that you need to monitor what your child is watching. I'm SO sick of this argument. Parents need to be parents. You don't want your kid watching a show? change the damn channel

  5. 5

Do they expect networks to play Barney all day? There's a time when kids are expected to go to sleep/read before bed/just go away so parents can watch shows geared towards adults. If it were up to the PTC, no television show more mature than a "Y" rating would be on TV in case children were up late with no supervision.

i love filling our kids with sexualty…the younger the better…i hope some day soon our schools move away from math and spelling and teach more sex ed. my life would be fulfilled if we eventually had classes like 'gay historical figures'. its really important for our kids to be bombarded with this kind of stuff so we can move forward with the liberal agenda.

  7. 7

since when is NBC a childrens channel?

  8. 8

The PTC can fuck off. They haven't been relevant for 30 years, if ever, but they have to stick their heads up and be outraged every now and then to keep the donations coming in from the seniors convinced we're all going to Hell.

Sorry Perez, in today;s world, 10pm is the new 7pm for kids under 16years of age. Why? Because theya re precious, important and allowed to set the rules themselves. No wonder parents want to shut this show down….they can;t control their own breeder offspring.

  10. 10

They Playboy Club will not last long because it SUCKS BIG TIME. Can't imagine anyone being interested in this crappy show.

  11. 11

Playboy in general promotes the use of Beta mind controlled slaves all the way back to Monroe.

    Re: buck
RIGHT, the sooner they get the message that sex is all that matters to the adults in control of the media, the better. And we do need more junk on the TV bc there is not enough already out there.
Why not teach them about the real world and how sick it really is.
lesson 1- women u r only worth what you look like
lesson 2- women who do not give men what they want are ugly
    instead
TURN OFF THE TV, go to the internet where you have more control
I got rid of mine and I don't miss it at all.

I agree. i'm so sick of EVERYTHING being sexualixzed. And can you ALL please get your heads out of your asses. No one is prohibiting you from watching your OWN porn. But why oh why does it have to air on TV? this is not about YOUR rights. It's about the morals of our country. Forget about fucking religion, it's about decency. Don't you see what is happening to our earth because of things like this? God, stop being so fucking selfish and see the negative affects this brings to our nation and families. It's not all about you jerking off and coming.

Re: pollopicu – Shut up idiot. Shows like this only encourage sluttyness. Not our problem if a slut is a dumb slut that can't use protection. Some girl getting herpes does not effect you nor me.

  15. 15

Oh look the fail parents are at it again, wanting television to raise their kids and not them. Ironically the PTC is just filled with bad parents. If you do not like a fucking show then fucking BLOCK IT. Every TV has V-Chips if you don't have cable or satellite..Cable/satellites all provide very good parental controls. We should not have to suffer because a bunch of idiots are too lazy to point their remote at the TV and either block the show or block the entire channel. So tired of these people trying to dictate what can and cannot be on TV.

We as a society need to stop letting these stupid organizations be heard so loudly.

  16. 16

Re: rickraton – That is true, who cares about a bunch of whores anyway?

  17. 17

    Re: pollopicu
We need a Council on Idiotic Americans so people like you can't post on the Internet.

This isn't porn and there is nothing wrong with sex. The problem with America is people like you who think government should be small enough to fit into my bedroom and doctor's office.

    Go away, you fucking idiot.

  18. 18

Re: grrrant23 – Nah, they probably wouldn't like that either because of the term "wizard". A lot of those folks aren't really into the whole sorcery//magic scene. Maybe the Muppet Babies are more their speed??? How about The Flying Nun?? Those are the only 2 decent shows I can think of that they couldn't find a reason to criticize.

    Re: PlayingTheAngel
why do u need it on TV?
TV is what we allow to enter our homes for free.
TV is on in most households as a background noise.
Whatever is not allowed on the streets should not be allowed on TV.
If you want to let a pervert into your house then you do it by opting-into it via porn sites.
The default should be G rated.
if you are not the general public then go to your porn site and get all you can. Don't sexualize our kids more than they already are. everywhere ad I see on every billboard is selling sex. We are bombarded with it. It has to stop.
There is a lot more to like than just jerking off.

The Parents Television Council (PTC) is a U.S. based advocacy group founded by conservative activist L. Brent Bozell III in 1995. Through publications on its website including staff reviews, non-scientific research reports, and web-based newsletters, the Council proclaims television programs or other entertainment products to be beneficial or harmful to the development of children. While their claims of potential harm are not corroborated by any scientific body or independent verification, the Council is regularly and prominently quoted in mainstream U.S. news media, despite a membership count of less than 1/100 of one percent of the U.S. Population

    Re: AttFinch
I am not a member, but I support what they are doing, as I am sure many others do also.

Most people are too busy trying to raise their kids to have time to do what they do. I say more power to them. I wish we could all be stay at home parents just patrolling everything that our kids see. But we can't, we have to work to cover the over priced mortgages after our wages have been cut. The least the government can do is help protect the kids. Kids these days see porn images/sex ads before they even begin to see themselves in that way. All those images just ruin what real sex/love should be like. You have no idea how many men now expect porn sex just bc they watch it all the time. They have no idea what real relationship sex/love is like. They are ruined at a young age from ever knowing what a healthy relationship is like. TV is too full of fake male fantasies.

Re: reallyxreally – I never said which side I was on. And if you actually knew me, you would know that most of my time is spent watching shows like Gidget, Leave It To Beaver, and Father Knows Best. I probably understand the purpose of "clean tv" more than anyone on here.
Also, I never said anywhere that I support pornography, or even this show for that matter. I just said that these council folks bitch a lot, that's all.
And I think it's funny that you choose to respond to my comment, which barely even stated my beliefs, when there are a bajillion other comments that say in plain English what people do and do not like. It's just weird that you choose mine, when mine is so "on the fence". I mean, you can bitch at whomever you choose, but you would think that you would've chosen to respond to someone that was much more passionate on the matter. In my personal opinion, I watch what I want to watch. So if you're looking to argue, find someone that more than halfway disagrees with you, not me.

    Re: reallyxreally

Spot on. America is turning into a dirty evil empire. Children ARE subjected to sex at a young age. They grow up in a fantasized world where you are made to believe you aren't NORMAL unless you're a.) pretty b.) skinny c.) a slut/man whore. The PTC is trying to turn this around. That stuff should not be on tv, order the playboy network if you want to live out your sexual fantasies. Turn on your computer if you want to be a raunchy perv. Everywhere you look sex ads are posted, a simple commercial about pepsi or laundry detergent has now turned into something sexual. It's disgusting. I'm not a prude but I think the government should be taking more action into controlling what's being broadcasted in America. HBO and Skinamax are bad enough but that is fine bc you can choose to pay for it or not…All the other major networksneed to stop advertising sex like it's the only thing that matters in the world…what about LOVE? FAMILY? RELIGION…the important things that America was built on

    Re: PlayingTheAngel
I was not looking to argue. BC you seem on the fence you may be the only one open-minded enough to listen. The other commentors commented less intelligently, so they are a probably a waste of time.
