Cheap Trick Wants Answers About Stage Collapse In Ottawa!!!

| Filed under: CanadialandIcky Icky PooMusic MinutePerezTV

And they deserve answers! This was TERRIFYING!

Earlier this month, we were disturbed when we heard that the main stage collapsed (above) at Ottawa's Bluesfest mere MINUTES after Cheap Trick ended their set and exited the stage!

Now, the members of Cheap Trick have spoken up and the want to know what caused the stage to collapse after their set.

Here's what the band's manager Dave Frey had to say about it:

"We simply want to know: what are the companies and organizers doing to protect the next act and the next audience? Every act and every fan out to be asking the same question when attending an outside musical event."

"Was it a design flaw? Was it an implementation mistake? These are important questions that must be answered."

Hopefully they're able to figure out exactly what happened so this kind of thing NEVER occurs again. So, so scary!

Why do U think the stage collapsed after Cheap Trick's Ottawa set?

uhm it collapsed because we had winds of 100 km/?

there was a freak thunderstorm in ottawa that night.
we lost trees on my street. i'm not sure but i think the reason might be tornado-type winds. doesn't look like it was the fault of bluesfest.

Yesssss it was 100 klm winds…i work for the city….it was a flash thunder storm, and it subsided as quick as it came on…..20 minutes and it was over….the stage acted like a big sail….thankfully Cheap Trick had exited…. by the grace of god only 1 person was seriously injured

It's called a microburst and damage from those can be extensive and happens fast. That stage was essentially like the sail on a boat and was torn in the wind. Not sure anything would have stayed up in a situation like that.

Its worth looking into the stage design, but Ottawa was fighting mother nature that night and that's the real answer. Power was out in parts of the city for days following the storm that took out the stage, trees were uprooted, swing sets flipped; almost everything that was outside in and around Ottawa was in some way destroyed by the storm that night..

I live in Ottawa and the wind caused a lot of damage to my yard. I've lived here more than 30 years and I've NEVER seen wind anywhere near that strong. Cheap Trick are morons. You can't ever be perfectly safe from everything. Where are the meteor shields and anti-alien forcefields?? Lame.

No it collapsed because Bluesfest decided to pick a cheap company which has over 10 collapsed stages in the past. Sure the wind was crazy but the tent was suppose to hold up against 140km winds, which it didn't. Blame Bluesfest and the shady company, not the wind. Now we will be known as the city that almost killed Cheap Trick, great.

You should be more worried about why your site has collapsed.

I am from Ottawa and we had a HUGE storm that day…. it's nobody's fault but mother natures… get a life cheap trick, shit happens. You could of just as easily been hit by a drunk driver out on the road.

I had 2 trampolines fly down my street and a full size metal shed which ended up at the end of my street. Not to forget loss of power for 28 hours even longer in some nearby cities, broken down trees and a nearby death of a 54 yr old man whom was fishing when the storm randomly and quickly hit.

It was the weather… there's your answer

Sound like a question for engineers/science people.

You failed to mention that their was an insane storm that evening. Winds in excess of 110 km/hour. Old trees where uprooted and tossed around. I call it a wind plow similar to a tornado but a straight down wind. I had many friends there and it was scary times. Count their blessing Cheap Trick that not to many where injured where as if the stage would have fallen forward instead of backwards there would be a lot more injuires and deaths.

You have got to be fucking kidding me!!! FIRST - the winds were at 110 km/hr, so intense! We had trees fallen over in our fucking backyard. You think a bloody stage is going to stay up? PLEASE!!

SECOND - you get a 'HAS BEEN' band like fucking Cheap Trick… The only reason why they are bringing this up now is because their press is fading after that storm. Get over yourselves Cheap Trick - the big bad storm wasn't out to get you. It's called Mother fucking Nature. What a bunch of dumbasses!

Cheap Trick should look for answers, micro burst or not, or nothing productive will be learned from this. They are correct to want some, considering.

The storm was so intense that most neighbourhoods didnt have power for hours afterwords. This isnt Bluesfest's fault, they could not have predicted it, nor could they have taken more precautions.
