It's just one devastating blow after another with this girl! She's breaking our hearts left and right! If we didn't love you so damn much Lea Michele, we swear….
Okay, okay. Let's focus here. Thing is, we were utterly elated to learn earlier this year that a revival of Funny Girl was to be back on Broadway by 2012. The musical that made Barbra Streisand a
star legend has always been a personal favorite of ours and it has been thrilling to see a new generation of kids learn to love it as well through Glee and Lea's powerhouse performances of some of the show's iconic songs. Naturally, since she basically put the show back on everyone's radar, we assumed she was the ONLY choice to breathe new life into Fanny Brice on the stage.
But alas, it's not happening. As we understand it, Lea will NOT be taking on the lead in the revival. We have to assume her schedule with Glee just couldn't allow it. (Though somehow Darren Criss is managing a stint on Broadway in January. Just saying!)
So then, if Princess Lea won't insist upon rain leaving the vicinity of her parade, who shall? The buzz is that Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under and Torchwood fame is being groomed for the role. Rumor has it that negotiations are underway, but her rep wouldn't confirm or deny anything.
Here's the bottom line:
If in January, when this thing goes into previews at the Ahmanson Theatre and we're sitting third row center, if we're not in TEARS over Fanny running like a madwoman to reach Nicky Arnstein, there will be hell to pay, Lea or no Lea!!!
