Yeah, if we lived in Florida, we'd been pissed too.

The numbers are in and in total, almost $700K Florida tax dollars were spent on the Casey Anthony investigation and murder trial of her two year old daughter.

Let's break it down for ya'll:

$293,123 went to Orange County Sheriff's Office. This is the money spent by the office from the momen the criminal investigation began when Casey's mom, Cindy Anthony reported Caylee missing to when her remains were found in December of that same year.

$186,903 went to covering Jury expenses, including selection, hotel, meals for 12 jurors and five alternate jurors for seven-week trial.

$91,000 went to the Prosecution for their expenses: expert witnesses, lab tests, etc.

$119,000 went to the Defense expenses, which was requested by Casey's lawyer after she was declared indigent and unable to pay.

So all together, that makes $690,026.

Got to love our justice system, huh?!

What are you saying Perez? That we should have just strung her up without a trial? The system may not be perfect, but we really don't want to go back to the days when a person doesn't get a trial do we?

  2. 2

i'm sure most missing children cases don't come close to being this expensive. gotta thank the media and especially Nancy Grace.

Well thats not too bad, I am happy as a taxpayer for her to have received a fair trial. She has been through so much, for her to have to come up with the funds to pay for her defense would have been awful. I hope she is doing well and actually has the time to mourn her loss. God Bless you Casey

I hate to break it to you Perez but they have to investigate things before they bring someone to trial AND anyone who is brought to trial is going to cost the state, county whatever some sort of money! So just think of how many murderers who cant afford their own lawyers we end up paying for. It happens a lot so stop acting so outraged like its something new.

She got her freedom, the least she could do is pick up the $700,000 tab. I changed my mind her and Nancy Grace should split the bill cause Lord knows there is no other reason why anyone watched the Nancy Grace show other than to see Casey Anthony's crazy ass.

  11. 11

get the fuck over it already.

  12. 12

have you guys seen the KILL CASEY ANTHONY music video by INFAMOUS??

  13. 13

$700K is not a lot of money really. I would have thought it was more than that just for security on that bitch

  14. 14

While people feeding hungry kids and adults in parks are arrested & thrown in Florida's horrifying torturous jails….

  15. 15

LOL for the first time I actually see a site report on the COST.

Which I find funny because we spend way way way more than that on stupid shit. Like jailing pot smokers, Sending someone to prison for LIFE when they should just get a bullet to the head, etc.

That doesn't even take into account all the money it costs to run the jail she was in… Our justice system is an insane money making business.

    Re: rosebud99 – Agreed!
    .
You're being pissy about this because you are an idiot, Mario. We all know you disagree with the verdict (*yawns*), and that you're obsessing about this (*yawn*). There are costs associated with the justice system. The prosecution did what it could with the circumstantial evidence of the case. The jury didn't convict Anthony, so it is what it is. I'd rather have paid for a fair trial than railroaded her into prison and a death sentence only to find out after the fact that her mother actually did it. Do I believe that? Of course not. But it's long past time for you to STFU about this.

  18. 18

So what do you suggest, Perez? get rid of the justice system? FYI that's what taxpayers' money is for…for running the justice system

  19. 19

Wow, what's really killing this country is the ignorance of my fellow Americans…Some of the comments here make me feel embarrassed. If you don't want your tax dollars to support the justice system move to a country without one…yeah, ignorants, move to Burma!

This is why the US gov. is going broke.

The reason this case cost so much is because of Casey herself.First, she did not report the child for 31 days, and even then her mother had to.During the search Casey insisted that the police were not searching HARD enough for the Nanny, ths contiued for 6 months.During, this time her daughter became skeletonized which cost valuable DNA evidence. All thi while never saying she accidentally drowned still insisting the NANNY took her which cost the taxpayers in search money. Then 6 weeks before the trial she changes her story. There would be no costs if she had just said she accidentally drowned and I panicked, which seems to be another lie.We lock up innocent people everyday and with that same system we let guilty go free.
