Leona Lewis Song Drama Heading To Trial

| Filed under: Music MinuteLegal MattersLeona LewisAvicii

This is not a promising start to a comeback.

Leona Lewis' new single Collide, off of her third untitled album, has come under fire from a Swedish DJ named Avicii who claims the song plagiarizes his own, called Fade Into Darkness!

The song is set to be released on September 4, but Avicii's pleas to a High Court in London scheduled for today may prevent that from happening.

Check out BOTH songs above and let us know if U think Collide plagiarizes Fade Into Darkness!

    how do i email perez?!

  2. 2

    they do sound v. familiar…

  3. 3

Obviously plagiarized but both songs are TERRIBLE formualic pieces of crap that about anyone could churn out twice a day if they wanted to.

  4. 4

Notice how Mario set this blurb up so that we have to SUFFER through two commercials and not just one.

  5. 5

I gotta say, they sound very alike to me.

Re: Elron Hubbard - Con Man – I was thinking the same.
Also, I don't understand why the people who own the videos Perez posts don't sue him for stealing them and putting ads in them.

    @elron Get an Adblock!

how do you not know who avicii is? you're "the queen of all media" and you're not even up to date on the music that has totally taken over

  9. 9

so you post this, but the one with lady gaga being sued for judas!!!!!!!!

  10. yeez says – reply to this

Re: Xtina0817 – Perez's wifey would OBVIOUSLY never steal, never ever. She is the queen of originality. Any claims of theft by Gaga are soooo not true, and if Perez posted that story he would just be buying into the fact that the WHOLE WORLD is against Gaga because everyone in the WHOLE WORLD is secretly homophobic.

everybody is taking musical ideas from others, and saying that lady gaga copied madonna is idiotic, she took her ideas and created something much different. how often are you going to come up with something new…it'll always sound similar to something else. lady gaga is EXTREMELY talented, and perez is a huge fan of her stuff SO LET HIM BE, if it bothers you then piss off? simple as that. as for these songs, yes they sound very familiar, but out of personal taste i would listen to leona because her voice is incredible, while the others sounds like junk. thats my own personal take, just let everyone enjoy what they are drawn towards instead of criticizing it.

  12. 12

Blatant ripoff. And BTW, they both suck.

  13. 13

They both have SUCH basic melodies so it's hard to say that the Avicii one is original. It doesn't matter because they both suck.

  14. 14

Not only does it sound like her producers copied Avicii, but it also sounds like they successfully made the song worse! I thought if you were going to copy someone, you should try to make it better. But that's not the case here. I don't think singers should, so casually, trust these producers. Producers/songwriters want to sell their music, and they'll copy, if that's what it takes to "beat em to the punch." There's a sad little pocket about the music industry, full of lazy/selfish/power-hungry douchebags who will stop at nothing, to make a buck off of someone else's better tune. And, Leona has obviously found one of those douchebags.

  15. 15

Of course it's a blatant ripoff. NOTHING today is original. The bean counters at the labels have worked all this shit into their numbers. They make MUCH more money making crap than they do having an "artist" spend on an original piece. Bean Counting 101. The problem lay in today's youth. They have no clue that they're being completely duped. Kindof like watching Perez's commercials in front of public domain videos. It's completely outrageous.

  16. 16

If you're talking about music, it's called "sampling" NOT "plagiarizing"…. and the original "sample" comes from Avicii's track "Penguin", which both Leona Lewis' "Collide" and Avicii's own "Fade Into Darkness" use.

I LOVE LEONA…..Have been huge fan of hers from watching the X Files thanks to Perez….and I kept telling all of my friends about this new singer…that they would love…and the DID!!!

That being said….I didn't like this song when I heard it….was very disappointing…and it is a duplicate of this other song….I was playing them together at the same time…and oh….Leona…..You need to fire someone GIRL!!!!! Cuz they ripped off this guys crappy song!!!!

  18. 18

Re: MoKnowsAll – From watching the X Files? Wow.

Blatant rip off. They're both crap anyway, Leona won't get much of a comeback. She's far too boring.

  19. 19

    They both sound crap.

  20. 20

Dude….Avicii and Big Sean are BIG NAMES maybe you should keep up with music more b/c lately you seem pretty IDIOTIC when the Queen of Media doesn't even know them. This is sooooo stupid fucking radio is trying to take over dub/drum step because it's becoming the only way they can have successful songs. they need to spend more time making there own good music instead of just copying other ideas. THIS IS PLAUGERISM!!!!! i can't believe that avicii could possibly lose this its the same EFFIN song!! BOOOO BOOOO BOOO LEONA!!!!!!! did you lose your ability to sing or something??? such a cop out!!!! every single grain of respect for leona is lost for her trying to put this song out.

  21. 21

Someone gets paid handsomely to promote these songs by creating little pretend disputes for publicity. I'm sure Leona will get sick or beat up again or sued or have a video issue if this doesn't help… Didn't Demi Lovato just work that angle? This is the wrong way to promote music and it sucks for everyone.

  22. 22

are you kiddingg meeee ?!?!?!? she definitlyy stole his songgg !! if you start them at the same time, you cant even hear ANY kind of differencee between themm !
&& maybe if people pulled their heads outta their assess, theyd know who avicii is; hes not some middle of nowhere DJ, hes actually pretty huge !

  23. 23

they sound exactly alike… she took avicii's mix just took his lyrics out of it and put her lyrics in it.

  24. 24

I actually like Avicii's song better. Suits his voice. Collide is a nice song but it doesn't really fit Leona's voice. She should've sticked to ballads.

  25. 25

HUH…assuming this isn't a sample, I find it interesting that they are both singing in the same key.

  26. 26

i alwayssss read perez … but really? to write about avicii as if you dont know him!? get with the times mr. hilston! & this song is originally called penguins..don't knock it till you've heard it live…sorrrry but i'm TEAM AVICII for this one.

  27. 27

I like both. but I prefer Leona Lewis's song.

and Jesus Christ there are some angry and cynical people who comment on this website. if you hate it all so much, why do you come here?

Re: pop_princess – your are so niave. people are right posting how kids today dont realize ….they don't they have been fed recycled crap, stolen crap, written by somebody eles preformed by puppets music, shallow music and they think thats how it is…thats just how it is lately because like others have said the record companies since online pirating are trying to milk you niave kids out of every dollar they can and need that instant hit for as little investment as possible. music has existed and their is only so many chords etc, but people with actual talent who are themselves not just performers but actual artists find away to come up with something not ripped off but some origanal mix of notes and chors etc thats why they are talented and deserve the fame money and or respect not these i am a pretty face or well connected rich kids who just want attention fame and more money. those who fall for the fame is it and the pop life b.s support this and what you get is watered down garbage which because thats all you see you think thats is how it is

  29. 29

fans of todays pop music while there may be few exceptions, are more into the image of being a rockstar/popstar and not the music. they are more bedazzeled by dance routines, flashing lights theater style stage props, the celebrity, the lifestyle than the actual product….the music. and admittingly it is hate on the nay sayers part because these people say things like everybody rips off , or nobody writes there own music anymmore, or when reviewing a persons talent says at the top of their list or pro's shes so hot or love her outfitt, and to people who really go beyond the commerical candy pop beyond the in it for money and fame, f actually being talented, who love music for art and god given creative talent its insulting. i dont get ballet but i dont turn that artform into the best is who has the prettiest smile or craziest costume (all the pop tricks to get attention and make money) love pop music fine its entertaining at times but don't pretend what they do is talented original or has any integrity at all please

this is clearly an example of pure plagiarism,
first beyonce did it with afrojack
its annoying that singers/artists have to siphon off the pure creativity that artists like Avicii have.
Leona is an excellent singer and her talents would be more credited by me and others I'm sure if she could mix her own tracks without stealing other artists beats or songs, simply because house music is taking the world over right now
get creative and stop trying to sell songs because people accidently mistake you for avicii and then are sadly disappointed by Leona's sad attempt at making this track work

    avicii wins this one 100%
