Relax! People Have Been Seeing Your Phone Number On Facebook For Awhile!

You should still hide the information, if you so desire. But don't lose your shiz over this.
If you've signed onto Facebook today, you've probably seen this warning blasted everywhere:
ALL THE PHONE NUMBERS of your contacts are now on facebook! go tothe top right of the screen, click on ACCOUNT, click on EDIT FRIENDS, left side of screen and click CONTACTS. you will see all phone numbers from your cell phone (FB friends or not) are published that you have stored inyour mobile phone. TO REMOVE, go to the right column, click on “thispage.” please repost this on your status, so your friends can remove their numbers and thus prevent abuse if they do not want them published.
While we encourage you to follow these instructions if you want your privacy, we want you to know that this information has been out there for awhile and if you wanted your privacy, you probably already have it since you know how to use settings.
And anyway, the main reason for this feature is to link you up to people you might know but aren't friends with on Facebook. So really, its not a huge deal.
But please, do what makes you feel safe and secure.

Yeah, messages like this cater to all the idiots who don't know how to use their privacy controls. I love how people freak out about things that they control.
I just tried this and only a certain few have their numbers online. I'm guessing it's those who posted the # in their about me section…?
LOL what people don't understand is that, only YOU in YOUR own account can see these numbers and only if you have those people on YOUR mobile, so the problem is what again???
I actually realized about a month ago that my cell # was published publicly on my FB because I was sending pictures from my cell to my FB page. I tried removing it, but every time I went to send pics it put it back on!! I realized that the better thing to do, instead of removing it (if you are going to keep sending things via cell/text), is to use your privacy settings to make it so your cell # is visible to ONLY YOU and then no one but you can see it! Not much else you can do, considering FB basically owns everyone's info now.
stupid post, only you can see it, your friends can't.
ok yes, you are all correct. So I can delete them if I want but if a friend of mine takes my phone and signs into their FB account using my phone they now have all my phones contacts, including ppl who do not have FB i.e. my grandma's phone # is now on their list. Now FB has access to their phone # without their permission. So it is to get the word out so that more people will get rid of those #'s.
Um. That's theft of private information, and illegal. Class action, kids…
Reason no. 500 why you should cancel your FB acct ASAP. The early adapters/hipsters ditched it years ago anyway..
Re: denverite – Actually all the hipsters are still on there, but unhip people like me aren't!
Re: ohthatj – People profiling themselves. Unless the government goes after them for what you consider illegal like Canada did, good luck with that.
