Green Day Debuts New Song In Tribute To Amy Winehouse!

| Filed under: Music MinuteAmy WinehouseR.I.P.Sad SadGreen Day

Wow. So touching, and so powerful.

During a secret show at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, CA, Green Day premiered a brand new song, titled Amy, which paid tribute to the life of late singer Amy Winehouse.

Although the quality isn't too great, check it out (above)!

The lyrics are seriously worth a read.

Really inspired, and you can certainly tell how deeply personal performing this was for them!

We sincerely hope that wherever Amy is, she knows how deeply missed she is, and how her memory will continue to live on through those who love her.

May she R.I.P.

This song sounds so familiar! Did they use the chorus from another song? Anyone?

I think what happened with Amy is a tragedy….and I feel for all of her friends and family. Unfortunately, this song just isn't doing it for me. Not a fan of it at allllll.

Billie Joe's voice sounds amazing considering the recording is crappy.

And, reminds me of "Last Kiss" from Pearl Jam, to answer to the first question. Difference is, I actually LIKE that song.

"Do you want to be a friend of mine"..hmm if they were that concerned, they would have reached out to her before.

A day late and a dollar short.

This sounds like it was written for a very special episode of Barney the Dinosaur where Baby Bop OD's!

What kind of friend were you to Amy when you were posting nude nip slip pictures of her? Such an ass hole!

Re: Heaven_Oblivion_Bliss – How do you know they didn't? And the same could be said about her parents, Mark Ronson, and anyone speaking out about her. She didn't want the help.

hbkid_101, I thought the same thing. The song was very remiscent of the Beatles or one of the bands that copied their sound from the time.

Re: hbkid_101 – It's a song they put out a few years ago called "Walking Alone" I think its from Nimrod. Same exact melody. Good ear!

I personally LOVE IT. The lyrics are great, really well thought out. Some of them are really sad, like in the chorus when he's telling her not to die, to stay alive. And asks if she wants to be his friend. And then at the end "can you write us a lullaby, so we can sing you to sleep" makes me imagine everyone singing to her at her funeral, like singing her to "sleep", y'know? It's really catchy, been stuck in my head since audio of it first hit the net. I want to hear an officially recorded version, but I kind of doubt it will be on the new album. I mean, he had to read his own lyrics while performing it, it was obviously a brand new song written about something going on at that moment…and anyways, Billie Joe's voice was spot on, even though it's a shitty recording you can hear he's hitting every note damn well. He's improved a LOT since going on Broadway. I saw him in the show in January, and he was good. But when I saw him again in April, just a few months later, he was WAY better. Hitting every single note perfectly, and had more power to his voice. I think he was getting coaching for the show, whatever he did, it's working.
