Eminem Crowned King Of Hip Hop

Following their crowning of Lady Gaga as the Queen of Pop, Rolling Stone has now named Eminem the King of Hip Hop!

….cue the drama!

Based on numbers and a myriad categories in which those numbers are calculated (sales, Grammys, followers, Billboard presence, airtime play, etc.), the facts are the facts.

But, just because a man is King doesn't mean he's everyone's favorite. While many agree with the honor, there are others who think it's just plain whack! ha.

And a lot of them are going to Twitter to express their discontent:

WalknbyFAITH003: @TheRealB965: Do you think Eminem should have been crowned King Of Hip Hop? No freaking way HOVA HOVA HOVA 24/7 365…

djsakir: Rolling Stone gets an epic fail for crowning Eminem the King of Hip Hop. #insulting

JordanO81:I couldn't tell you who "the king of hip-hop" is right now, but I'm damn sure it ain't Eminem. @MTV

However, as much negative as there is, we still found even more positive:

BornNRaisedNFLA: Hold On……So u saying eminem wouldn't kill Jay & Kanye If it came down to a rap battle to name the KING OF HIP HOP?

BiaBia22: Congrats @Eminem for being crowned The King Of Hip Hop by Rolling Stone mag. 9 whole pages! #nowplaying Criminal by Eminem.

2of5: Just found out my favorite rapper was named King of Hip Hop by Rolling Stone Magazine. Congratulations Eminem!! OK haters 1 2 3 GO!

bina_nubian:I dont listen to @Eminem 's music…I get lost in it. So much depth and emotion. King of Hip Hop was right…yall are sleepin #StayWideAwake

Coming in second place to Em was Lil Wayne, followed by Drake in at third.

Kanye West and Jay-Z came in at fourth and fifth.

And placing six was the lovely Nicki Minaj. She was also the only woman on the Kings list. Yeeeahh! Go gurl!

Rolling Stone has all of the charts and math drawn out, category by category, for anyone who wants to see it to believe it.

So congrats, Eminem! We think you're definitely king material.

What about U? Who is UR king?

I do not care for hip hop but for some reason I really like Eminem. I think he has really matured in the last few years. Just my opinion.

  2. 2

I like Wayne and Drake but Eminem definitely deserved it. He raps about other things other than sex and drugs. Lady Gaga = Queen of Pop? WTF!!! Is that for this year or did she like take the crown from someone o_0? Even if it was for this year, that would go to B. Spears imo.

While I'm not a fan of his music (or hip-hop in general), isn't it obvious why he's so popular? He's much more relateable because of his skin color than say, black people who invented the genre. It's a sad state of racism that keeps people away from real hip-hop artists, and they are force fed Eminem's deparment store brand of white trash, ghetto life music.

  4. 4

Eminem is definitely my King of hip hop!!

  5. 5

Re: 7tizz – Racism?? You wish. He didn't get to the top because of "racist" people (which btw wouldn't even listen to rap). He got to the top because of shock value, because of the people that he has worked with, and because of his talents. So there's nothing "racist" about the decision, and I don't even like eminem. Most black people I know prefer Eminem anyway. I mean, a few years back Jay-Z may have deserved the honor or whatever. But now he's more than sold out. Don't get me wrong- eminem has as well. But he's done a great job at marketing himself to many types of people, as well as genre crossover. And most rap artists can't do that without destroying their image, but he did.

  6. 6

When you compare him to the other rappers on that list yes he deserves the title. I don't think it's racism that made him #1 that would dismiss the quality in some of the albums and songs he's put out. Not everything that's popular is good but sometimes good music does sell I mean MJ made it to the top as a black artist so I think it's about having crossover appeal and eminem has been able to do that. However if they did an overall list I wouldn't name him King of Hip Hop but I think he would be a contender.

  7. 7

the biggest joke is that drake made the top 3…

  8. 8

Lil Wayne is number two? Are you freaking kidding me? Maybe sales-wise he beats other people, sure, but when it comes down to really analyzing the music, Lil Wayne wouldn't even be Top 5. He's running out of material and all his songs sound the same as of late. Jay-Z should be number two, maybe even number one, cause he's the fucking SHIIITTTT. And he's been around longer than any of these fools.

  9. 9

Drake isn't even in the same league as em and hova c'mon. He's been rapping for what 4 years. Em is the man with the plan and jayz is the original. There should only be them on the list fuck drake and minaj

  10. 10

Eminem IS the king of HIP Hop. There is no one like him and yet he's always coming up with something different. Who would've thought a white guy from Detroit would dominate Hip Hop? Where did 50 cent go? ha ha ha!!! Lil Wayne is pretty hot now but better come up with something new. Drake is still young but has lots of potential if he keeps his head straight. Jay-Z and Kanye are bunch of idiots flashing money, bitches, drugs, and cars. They're both cocky, and probably doing each other too! I keep hearing those two are in the illuminati too…maybe that's the reason they're still kicking. Who knows but I'm glad Eminem gets the respect he deserves for his work in Hip Hop.

  11. 11

although I don't agree with most of artists on that list (where is Nas?How Nicki Minaj, Drake could be on the top list, WTF??) I do agree that Eminem really deserves it, he's like a complete package (lyrical genious, great rap technique, catchy beat/music), he can relate to white and black communities and people outside US. F*ck about skin colour, Jay Z may have more albums but his music's kinda just acceptable in black community.

  12. 12

Guys this is stating who is most successful RIGHT NOW. Over a longer time span, I still think Eminem would be up there, but others like Drake and Nicki would definitely not be on the list.

  13. 13

GaGa is a PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. 14

Can't please everyone. Eminem's been around a while. Others don't have staying power. What happened to Master P and other No Limit Artists. There were it back in the day and now they're gone. Lil Wayne is the only one that managed to stick. Nicki and Drake don't have that staying power. They'll be a distant memory soon enough.

  15. 15

    what a croc of shit

popscidictator is the king of hiphop and queen of pop
she is the biggest popstar in the world!!!

(Honestly tho - I think he deserves it xD he is a very good rapper .. )

  16. 16

I love Pac and Biggie, but I honestly feel he is the greatest rapper of all time.
    The dude is just sick.

Lil Wayne and Drake are just utter garbage. Embarrassing.

  17. 17

ok b4 use call me out for being racist i am a white woman born with a black father and i get racist shit from both sides constantly but i think that the only reason people are pissed about this is because hes white and generally hip hop artists are coloured. but the fact is that he is a skinny white guy who has dominated a black mans game for along time and i think hes the greatest ever. he has the greatest rapping voice and his lyrics are really creative. but people are allways gna be pissed because they think he was only picked for the colour of his skin. and if you count the number of platinum albums , grammys , #1 singles and so on. the fact dont lie.

  18. 18

Re: Angus8 – i tots agree, for greatest rappers of all time i would say eminem then biggie and then pac. lil wayne and drake are a joke and kanye and jay z should have been higher up on the list.

  19. 19

Sorry, but he is. I hate most rap/hip hop (generational thing I suppose, no idea), but his stuff is awesome. It's intelligent and has substance. Everything else out there is crap. Waiting for the bandwagon to call Rolling Stone racist. Typical.

  20. 20

Drake is my king of hip hop, PERIOD.

  21. 21

The best rappers of all time are DEAD!!! If they still lived, they'd have everything Eminem has now. He's in the top 5 but he ain't # 1 or 2. Biggie and 2Pac have top spots.

  22. 22

Re: djmastav – biggie and pac were awsome but they had no where near as many grammys , platinum albums , #1singles or other awards that eminem had. they all made good music but eminem made more good music than they did. and really his voice is incredible and his lyrics are very creative

  23. 23

Drake and Nicki should be in pop category lol. Jay-Z should be #2. Or even #1. Em deserves it as well. Kanye would be my #3.

  24. 24

The real shame is all the "underground" artists who get no recognition because of acts like Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj taking up space with their garbage.

Blu, The Grouch, Blue Scholars, TiRon, Bambu, Flipsyde

  25. 25

    Drake?! No, no, no.

  26. 26

Re: T.E.A.M.J.O.L.I.E – You're a white woman born with a black father? How does that work? You were adopted by a black couple? Your mother is in a relationship with a black man, and he functions as your father? Because in most cases, you cannot be a "white" woman with a biological black father. If you looked completely like a non-hispanic caucasian, then maybe. In the end of the day, ethnicity is completely irrelevant, it just takes a while for most to understand that.

  27. 27

I agree with Eminem being #1. No offense to Drake fans but I think he was too high on the list, he just sounds like he's talking when he raps.

  28. 28

although its clear that based on rollingstone's criteria that eminem is the king, you have to be stupid to deny that if eminem wasn't white he wouldn't have achieved the success that he has. he'd probably still be living a shitty life in detroit. he's the elvis of hip hop

  29. 29

I like Eminem but apart from Love the Way You Lie he isn't as big as he was a few years ago, there are a few gems on Relapse and Recovery but they just don't come close to his earlier work. He's an amazing lyricist but I get the impression he's tired of rap and his music is suffering as a result. That entire list is ridiculous; Drake (average!) is above Kanye and Jay-Z and Lil Wayne continues to be overrated, plus Waka Floka and Gucci Mane are on there…

  30. 30

Why get up in arms about this? He didn't declare himself the King of Hip Hop, a magazine did. If you were to ask Eminem who he considered the King of Hip Hop, he would probably say Dre! Or give props to some of the other hip hop masters who came before him. Eminem is indeed a tremendous artist! Only a body of work can determine the true title of King or Queen. Elvis, Aretha, Michael Jackson. Eminem has not been around as long as these Kings & Queen, but if his music continues to resonate and dominate 20 years from now, he will be undisputed and this argument can be put to rest. For now, it may be too soon to crown him King. Maybe for now he can be crowned the Prince of Hip Hop.

  31. 31

Re: AshleyDuh – Thank you! Underground is where it's all at!

  32. 32

I hate to throw this out there (no wait actually i don't) didn't many people over at rolling stones renig on calling lady gaga the queen of pop? And wasn't it a generational thing? IDK but calling anyone the queen/king of anything seems lame as fk

  33. 33

Re: POPSCIDICTATOR #1 FAN!! – lmao! love the post!! All hail mother POPSICIDICTATOR

  34. 34

Re: AshleyDuh – I've seen the grouch perform.. And I like him a lot too.. I also like Curren$y and Mac Miller.. I think they are underrated all because they aren't mainstream or "discovered" yet.

  35. 35

First and FOREMOST…ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE has NO SAY SO whatsoever when it comes to whos hot, whos not, whos "king" "queen" or whatever other title in HIP HOP. They're a rock n roll magazine that occasionally feature hip hop artist. EMINEM will NEVER by the king of hip hop. Dont get me wrong, hes a white boy that can rap. And thats as far as it goes. Thats a hype. White people are going to love him just because he is a white boy that can rap. Other than that HE CAN'T HOLD A DAMN CANDLE IN THAT GENRE. PERIOD. King of rap my ass. GET THE F. OUTTA HERE MAN.

  36. 36

Re: Beautiful Disaster311 – MASTER P and lil WAYNE are NOT from the same label. dumb ass. and Master P is too busy running companies much like DIDDY.

  37. 37

give credit where its due…know ur history before you speak even upon topics like this. Wayne has been in the game since he was 11…mainstream since 15. Not to say that HE is the best but im saying…Had lil wayne…kanye…or jay z been all white dudes with long hair, buzz kuts, and a curly fro spitting they'd be in the spot where Em is now. BOGUS man. And the ONLY reason why hes even in the "league" as being the best, is because of itune sales, and record sales. THATS IT.

  38. 38

Nothing but black hate…if eminem was black there wouldn't be an issue…

    grow up.

  39. 39

Re: iSimplyDGAF – Oh, thanks for pointing that out. But you've helped prove my point further since he's with Cash Money Records, which also house Drake and Nicki, along with the other failed artists from the past. Which most I loved, but they just don't have the staying power. Drake and Nicki are blah. Here today, gone tomorrow. Flash in the pan baby. And also the fact that you're saying white people love Em, just because he's white is such a stereotype and proves your ignorance. But like I said earlier, can't please everyone.

  40. 40

I like that Lil Wayne song about the time he drank champagne, drove his really expensive car to a strip club, watched a stripper shake her booty, then he threw cash at her.

Oh wait. That's every song he's ever done. Totally boring and unoriginal.

  41. 41

Re: Everything popular is wrong. – my mum is irish and very pale and my dad is black and i have black hair but very white skin. i had a dna test done i didnt beileve he was my father but he is. funny how the gene pool works. but thats not what im talking about. i get shit from black people for being white and i get shit from white people for having a black father. its people in my situation who have it worst.

  42. 42

ok, what i dont get is how people are hating on eminem being number one when Lil wayne is number 2, i mean you have to admit eminem can slay any of the other 5 named on the list, and if u dont agree, your fuckin stupid. congrats eminem,he totally deserved it

  43. @v@ says – reply to this

It's just a label. He's good alright, and he would be the first to say that others are, too. Am
seriously glad that he wasn't hurt at that tragic festival. He was a headlining act.

  44. 44

ROLLING STONE published a poll on their website that had Madonna WAY in front of a second place GaGa, there was NO WAY she could have overtaken her in such a short amount of time…Link please?

  45. 45

@KIMKSAGGYASS. Stop PLAYING THE RACE CARD, HONEY. You look hella stupid. Anway, even Eminem admitted it himself that because he's white he's always talked about/ very popular. And don't talk about other white rappers all white people need is one white rapper and there all over him. Now, Eminem is very mediocre, very. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common are all great great great rappers, period. I ALWAYS see whites praising Eminem ALWAYS out of other famous (black) rappers. I wonder why? Now I understand because he's white and they like to see their own I understand but be fair and stop acting like Eminem is the best rapper alive. I don't like rap much BUT, I do like Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi, Far East Movement, Snacky Chan, Nicki Minaj, and Asher Roth(white rapper). Any who, Eminem is very mediocre period, like I said Eminem even said it himself he knows why he's everywhere it's because he's white, so yeah.

  46. 46

Eminem is the King of hip-hop! He is my favorite rapper and the only rappers who could have competed a long time ago were Tupac, Nas, Rakim, and Biggie. None of them were around long enough to beat him. Eminem is the current King of Hip Hop and always will be the best rapper of all time. Someday Drake or Nicki could get on the same level as Biggie, Dre, Snoop Dogg, or Tupac, but they will never beat Eminem, no one will. As for Lil Wayne he is in all honesty not very good and does not deserve the number 2 spot. Kanye has however have proven to be among the elite. Jay Z still needs to prove himself to me.

  47. 47

Are you kidding me? Um, I know Eminem is an ok rapper but sale wise…. Lil Wayne is #1.
Drake 2 and Nicki #3. You can't tell me that Eminem cd sold more than Waynes. I wouldn't believe you.

  48. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: Ceeceebooo – Best selling artist of the last decade. Billboard. Believe.

  49. 49

i really like eminem…but when ever i ask anyone why they like him over others.. or why eminem is the only rapper they listen to and stereotype every other rapper….and they practically tell me its because hes white…which amazes me…to be honest
