State Bar Of Florida Starts Up Investigation Of Casey Anthony's Lawyer

casey anthony lawyer being investigated

This is what we like to hear!

We've just learned that the State Bar of Florida has started up an investigation of Casey Anthony's lawyer Jose Baez for "possible ethical violations," such as "hiding information from the court."

The investigation stems from Casey's check fraud conviction in 2010. She was given one year's probation, and was told by the judge that time she spent in jail before her murder trial would NOT count towards her probation time.

Unfortunately, the judge accidentally wrote on Casey's probation order that her jail time WOULD count toward probation time, and Baez didn't make any effort to check in with the judge about the mistake.

Here's what the Chief Judge of the court had to say about it:

"Our system of justice should never be in the position of rewarding someone who willfully hides the ball. "[Baez may have violated] an attorney's duty of candor."

Baez has admitted that he knew about the error, but he says he "felt no obligation" to say anything about it.

Why are we NOT surprised that Casey Anthony's lawyer would do something unethical????

We hope he gets properly punished for his actions!

While this particular incident reveals Baez to have engaged in less than ethical behavior, is there a reason that you insinuate that he's habitually unethical? I realize you're a mental midget who holds it against Baez that he engaged in a successful defense for Casey Anthony. But is it really appropriate or ethical for YOU to defame his character? You do realize that he could take action on this, don't you? You do understand that if he did go after you, it's extremely unlikely that you'd be able to hide behind freedom of the press, right? You need to be very careful in what you say, Mario, because you could end up on the hook here. Slander is one thing, but defamation of character is something else entirely, and the damages awarded are often impressive.

He's ex Naval intelligence with top security clearance, the whole trial was a farce.

I think he has some contempt of court issues to deal with in terms of the murder trial as well.

He is not a lawyer he is a pimp.

I hope this has a death penalty at the end of the Baez rainbow.

whether we agree with outcome of the trial or not, his job is to protect the best interests of his client which he did. He did not hide anything, it was on record and any one else familiar with the case could have pointed out that error…..um like the prosecution maybe?? It is not his responsibility to check that every other lawyer and judge are doing their jobs correctly, he did his job. He got his client off and thats what he is supposed to do. Dont get mad at him, get mad at the prosecution that didn't do theirs. Not only did they put on a weak case, they let this slide throught the cracks as well.

Maybe her lawyer assumed they KNEW this seeing as how it was written on his order? Does it sound like they're turning it around on the lawyer now simply because they have egg on their faces? Did the judge who wrote this on the order the lawyer had also document it for the court?

I thought you were out of the "hating" game. Or are you just hating on people it is popular to hate on? It amazes me that people profess to believe in our justice system, but want to condemn it for when they disagree with a verdict. I think the judge should be held responsible for his negligence. He signed the order. Did he read it first? Seems to me that was his obligation. And regardless of whether he meant it, she completed the sentence. So if someone is sentenced to a year in prison, does the time and gets out, can the judge say "Oh, my bad, send him back it was supposed to be 2 years". That judge needs fired for incompetence.

His ethical violations infected the entire trial. He used lie after lie to muddy the waters, he lied almost as much as his revolting client. Pool drowning? Sexual abuse? Where? Why? When" WHo? Um.. evidence?

    La Garse,

Check out a couple of posts on Tee M Zee - according to them, he has had over 20 complaints filed against him with the Bar Association. I think this is also on ROL but have not yet checked out that site.

Re: La Garse – La Garse I am not a mental midget like you referred to someone else who had an opinon of Mr. Biaz. He did win the Anthony Case but it was'nt so much because of him being a good attorney. There were alot of mistakes made by the State and he basically won on techincalities. There is a big difference. If you are as savey as you want me to beleive then you should of been able to see all the loop holes. The State basically gave him the win. As far as him not reporting the mess-up in Ms. Anthony's probation case, he caught the clause that was wrong and failed to report the error. Mr. Biaz is an officer of the court and he had a responsiblity to act on this and he did'nt. This is how Mr. Biaz goes thru the court system to win a case so he has yet to prove that he is a good trial attorney because he is crooked and is damn good at it. This is not his first run in w/ the board but I am sure he will not slide on this one as he has in the past. I would think he would want the reputation as being a great trial attorney instead of just being a lucky s.o.b. that slips thru the cracks to get his wins. I am all for looking out for my client but this stunt might end up hurting his client. The client should come first at all times. I can see where Mr. Biaz and Casey Anthony clicked because they are cut from the same cloth. I think they make a good team. Which does not say much for either party.
