Well, hey! Sounds like she did her research!
Although Anne Hathaway's British accent in her new film, One Day, has caused a bit of controversy surrounding its authenticity, the actress has come forward to explain why she chose to take it in the direction that she has, and also assert that many audiences are pleased with her performance!
"Emma is from Leeds but has been at university, and then goes to London, so the accent is designed to change the way it does when you leave home, particularly in the UK. I met ten people from Yorkshire and nine of them didn't sound like they were from Yorkshire anymore."
"I've had people come up to me who have seen it actually and they say, 'I didn't think you could pull it off.' And people feel inclined to tell me that they really had no faith in me whatsoever. So far, it's ended with a, 'But you surprised me, and I really enjoyed your performance.' But I'm just waiting for that person to come up and say, 'Well I knew you couldn't do it.'"
