Awful! Death Toll Reaches 5 Following Tragedy At Belgian Music Festival

death toll rises in belgium festival tragedy

So horrible and sad.

Yesterday, we were very upset to hear that concertgoers were both injured and killed during a Belgian music festival due to a disastrous thunderstorm.

Now, the upsetting numbers are in, and we're hearing that 140 people were injured, 10 people were seriously injured, and 5 people lost their lives.

Here's what the organizer of the festival Chokri Mahassine had to say about the tragedy:

"This is the blackest day that any Belgian festival has experienced. [The event has been cancelled] out of respect for the victims, their relatives and friends."

We can only hope that the death toll doesn't rise any higher, and all the people who were injured make a speedy and full recovery.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to everyone who was affected by this tragic event.

what is up with storms killing people at concerts??? and five people died at the concert in Indiana as well due to a stage falling on a crowd cause of strong winds and you know what they say about the number 5……

  3. 3

Mario, the only thing that upsets you is when you're not sucking Gaga's cock

Re: HAWTSTUFF – Belgium is a small country and when something like this happens, we all stick together! We don't want the attention, this is just horrible news that Perez shares with us readers. We want support and hope that this will never happen again. The sky turned black, I've never seen the wind blow as heavy as then, it was true hell. Tents were flying everywhere and people were hurt or died. My friends were there and I was worried sick because I couldn't reach them. I wasn't there, but it was hell for me too! Pay your respects instead of saying that, you should be ashamed of yourself. And if you don't believe me, check youtube and you will see how horrible it was for yourself…

I was there, yesterday. I seriously thought I was going to die. But luckiliy i wasn't injured.
I think Chokri made the right decision by cancelling Pukkelpop!
    Such a tragedy

Re: JustLouLou – only idiots would stick around that place with conditions like that. same with the "horrible accident" in indiana, people knew it was unsafe but stuck around.

Re: HAWTSTUFF – The storm only lasted for 10 minutes, there were 60.000 people. Where do you think they should go in complete chaos?! There was hail with the size of golf balls and extreme wind. You couldn't walk through that, there was no other place to hide than in the tents. A couple of them collapsed with people in it, trees fell down and there was mud everywhere. You couldn't escape from that… The people on the camping couldn't go anywhere either. You can't just leave the festival ground with 60.000 people at once in 10 minutes. I'm wondering if you have ever been to a festival because you clearly don't know what you're talking about

Re: HAWTSTUFF – and by the way, we didn't even know what happened at that festival or concert you are talking about so we don't want the attention you think we want

    Re: HAWTSTUFF
nobody could have prevented this! It was tuly an act of nature!
It only lasted 10 minutes for the damage to be done
    so shut up

wWather like on thursday isn't normal in Belgium, however it is in the US. That is why, they should've warned on that festival. But in Belgium, there was just going to be a bit bad weather. No one expected pitch black skies or a huge tropical storm. The weather was different throughout belgium, if the festival had been a km further, everyone would've been fine.

    i was there…

It was completely unexpected- half an hour before that, it was 30°C and sunny, everybody was in summer wear, flipflops, bikini's… then suddenly the weather changed and it turned into hell within 10 minutes. The extremely high winds blew threw a narrow path of about 300 meters (less than 1000 feet) wide, right over the festival. There was no place to go, nowhere to hide for the storm and hail, most constructions collapsed and killed people seeking refuge inside. Where are 60.000 people supposed to go in such a short time frame? I've never witnessed weather like that in Belgium in my life - and I'm 57. My daughter was supposed to be at Pukkelpop to see Foo Fighters, but fortunately she couldn't afford the ticket price. Other were not that lucky. RIP, lots of strength for the survivors and a big thanks to everybody that came to help. And fuck you haters.

    @HAWTSTUFF
How dare you say that! Nobody expected a weather like that. It was a really beautiful sunny day and all of a sudden at around 7.00 P.M. the sky turned black and the wind was blowing incredibly hard. Even the weather people didn't expect this. Do you seriously think if we knew what was going to happen that they would organize this event!?

We are not stupid like some Americans

  18. 18

This is sad news. The youngest victim was only 15.

  19. 19

I just wanted to say, that the organiser of Pukkelpop did a great job. Nobody forsaw this tragic happening & everbody did their best to get people to safety.
@hawtstuff: you're such a complete dumbass!! Who would want to copy that?! Maybe you would, but we sure as hell don't!! How could you even think that?! Pay some respect to the people that were there and died or got wounded & their families.
    RIP Pukkelpoppers!
