WARNING: THERE ARE SOME MILD SPOILERS AHEAD, SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN KEEPING YOURSELF IN THE DARK ABOUT THIS NEW PIXAR FLICK, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER. THANK YOU.
Around the time the team over at Pixar had finished up production on Ratatouille, a funny little picture was drawn of Mike from Monsters Inc. You can see it above. It's Mike, in a letterman's jacket, somewhat younger than he was in the time of Pixar's classic flick. That one sketch launch the creation of the new prequel movie, Monsters University.
For those who were lucky enough to be at D23 this weekend and caught the presentation, animators from the flick shared some preliminary artwork and details about the movie to devoted fans. "Monsterize” the college experience looks like it was a lot of fun for the team, and the story goes that Mike and Sully weren't exactly friends at the start of their story. In fact, they start off in direct competition with each other for a very prestigious job: a "scarer." As for the school in which they attend, since most of the artists went to "art schools," they visited real college campus to get a feel for the environment, In the end, their world was described as a mash-up of MIT meets Harvard … with monsters.
Some things will be staying the same though. John Goodman and Billy Crystal will both return, along with some new characters voiced by Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray and Peter Sohn. And now, meet the younger (and slimmer) versions of the Mike and Sully in the gallery (below)!
