East Coast Earthquake Cracks Washington Monument

Noooo!

While the 5.9 earthquake was playfully mocked with pictures fallen lounge chairs and askew picture frames, turns out there was some real damage after all.

Located in DC, the Washington Monument suffered a crack at the very top.

It went unnoticed until it was detected by a helicopter.

The monument is closed until further notice. Sorry, tourists!

Well, it sucks one of our major landmarks was damage, but it's still a WAY better situation than we feared!

I can't help but laugh when people from the west coast brag that they endure worse earthquakes.

  2. 2

Until the west coast has a 9/11 event they need to shut their mouths. There was no way to know what the shaking was which is why there was concern.

mmmh yeah Bet you're sucked by that metaphore…

I have never had the urge to up in the tower… but, maybe now they will put it to good use, the worlds biggest ring toss… Guinness style… and please chefkat, it was us on the Eastcoast posting and laughing with the pics… and I know people who died on 9/11. I was trying to watch tv yesterday. Long Island, and the news keeps interrupting with 'EARTHQUAKE' news and it is NOTHING. The news DOES THIS ALL THE TIME!!! Yes, we had an earthquake, some damage, our buildings are not built for earthquakes, but it supposedly lasted 15 sec. I was driving, did not feel it, but amazingly, people around me, at least ones that are found by the NEWS had tvs thrown off shelves, were shaken left to right, were knocked to the ground, etc etc. Yes, alot were shaken, but, alot of the people on the news are 'exaggarating' maybe a tiny little LOT A BIT…. That is why you get the pics of lawn chairs, etc. CALM DOWN!!! turn off the 'NEWS'!!!!!

Re: justtfax – As a member of the military I am well aware of the security precautions in DC. Making light of something in the DC area when a building begins to shake after 9/11 is not funny. If you did lose someone you would not being making a joke out of it. But clearly since you are NOT in DC as I am you should not be speaking of security precautions that have to be taken.

A crack in the Washington Monument??? I can only hope that the quake managed to shake loose some heads out of their asses in our Congress & House of Rep.

Nothing lasts forever. They must last a couple of thousands of years… but definitely not forever.

so the only building to sustain damage in washington is the centrepiece of their masonic iconry ….and the pyramid of the icon, no less. how poetically just.

Re: gmc – I tried to explain this earlier about the masons involved, but perez hilton would NOT post my comments.

caravaggio, *involvement* isn't something I was suggesting - and that the monument is masonic is open and acknowledged. I was wrong about *sole damage* tho wasn't I - but the damage to the cathedral is also very interesting, when you look into the planning, contents and archtecture of the buidling and those involved. curiouser and curiouser. p.s. thank you to Perez for publishing :)

Re: gmc – I TRIED to post this earlier, but Perez wouldn't allow it. I guess Abe Foxman had a cow and made threats. The Washington Monument is not a monument at all, but an Obleisk. It represents the phallic manhood. The oval office in the white house represents the Ovum. Purely sexual (like Egypt). The Pentagon points to the north star to garner energy for war. The Pentagon is really a Pentagram which is a five pointed star. You can figure out the rest. Also, The Obelisk measured from top to the bottom of its foundation measures exactly 666 feet. I kid you not.
