And The New Apple CEO Is…

As sad as we are to see him go, hellz to the yes!

In light of Steve Jobs' unexpected resignation as the CEO of Apple, his successor has been announced as Tim Cook, a chief operating officer, who has apparently been groomed for the position in case of something like this happening - and he also happens to be gay, and now, according to reports, "by far, the most powerful openly gay executive in tech."

Genentech chairman Art Levinson says in a statement:

“The board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO. Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”

And as Out Magazine wrote, when they named Cook the number one "Power 50" a few months ago:

"While it is Jobs’s prescience that has kept the Cupertino, Calif., company at the cutting edge of technology, it’s Cook who made sure Apple could deliver as demand rocketed. Leader-in-waiting? Most definitely."

Ah-mazing!

And it certainly sounds as though he's more than capable of taking over the role that we're so sad to see Jobs leave!

We can't wait to see what kind of direction and perspective he brings to Apple!

Congratulations!

Yay he will do so well.

It was not an unexpected resignation. The guy has been sick for a long time and needs to rest.

who cares that he is gay. It doesn't need to come up in conversation…Hi I am sally I am a mom of 2 oooh btw I am gay. It isn't on his resume. Get over it.. I don't need to hear about it every second of they gay..I mean day. .. It's becoming the all gay show. The all gay gossip show. fuck it's getting annoying.

@Esin Emko, Perez just feels like a champion in the gay movement, regardless of how far he's actually regressing the 'acceptance' of the gay lifestyle. He's a clown, a ridiculous little clown.

So you're happy for him, not because he's qualified, but because he's gay? That's stupid. I realize gay rights are important, but like everything else, they have a place and time. Nothing about a job should be about sexual orientation. Like someone else said on here, being gay isn't on his resume.

Wait should I be happy for him cause he's the new CEO or that he's gay? Come on Perez! Start getting a fucking clue, no one really cares!

This person is a qualified talented professional who has showed his capabilities and was groomed to step up in Apple's succession plan for a long time. True equality is achieved when regardless of who you are/or where you come from, only your talent, skill and accomplishments are part of selection process. He is a wonderful example of this… but you need to have a reality check Mario, in business and fortune 500 companies we don't have issues with peoples being gay.

But I am curious about you… if you were to have to choose between two qualified candidates, one being openly gay, the other being openly straight, would you dig deeper into their skills, abilities and past performance, or would you select the person who was gay? Answer honestly and then ask yourself if you exhibit the behaviors of someone who should speak on behalf of an equality agenda.

He looks a lot like Bill Gates in this pic. Why mention he is gay?
