Texas Governor Rick Perry Takes The Lead For Republican Nomination

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooPolitikSarah Palin

Rick Perry

Remember him? Only just after announcing his candidacy, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has pulled ahead of all other Republican candidates as the GOP’s favorite for the 2012 presidential elections.

According to Gallup polls, 29% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents would support Perry, with the next choice being Mitt Romney with 17% of Republican support.

Perry is showing some real strength with older Republicans living in the South as well as conservative Republicans. Some of his weaknesses lie with moderate, liberal and young Republicans.

It actually looks like this guy could possibly have a chance of WINNING?! Ugh!

Everything could change though if Rudy Giuliani or Sarah Palin decide to enter the race. Even better! We could live with Rudy but good gracious please not her.

Though Perry has spun the Republican race in a new direction he still rates as a weaker front-runner than many other previous leading Republican candidates.

It may not be the end of days after all!

I dont think so. RON PAUL is either in the lead, or he's second. But no one ever talks about him in the media cause they're scared. Cause what he says is right. RON PAUL wants to totally eliminate the IRS. That right there should be enough for a lot of people. But he wants to do so much more. Please people…I BEG OF YOU….if you care about your country at all, VOTE RON PAUL in 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RESTORE AMERICA NOW!!!!!!!

As soon as the Bush Tax cuts are rescinded our economy will start to boom!!! It is that simple and don't let the FASCIST (look it up) Republicans tell you otherwise. And, yes, this is Bush's recession. Although Obama could have bigger balls. That would speed things up. Remember if Hillary had given Obama one of her balls then the both would of had two.

  11. 11

Do you realize how well the Texas economy is doing? Do you see the countries economy? Perry over Obama, anyday.

  12. 12

Scary Perry is George W. number 2. He lives in his own rich world only looking out for the wealthy. It's a shame Warren Buffet does not run.

Scary Perry is George W. number 2. He lives in his own rich world only looking out for the wealthy. It's a shame Warren Buffet does not run. The best politicians from Texas were Barbara Jordan and Ann Richards.

Re: zappachic – Agree. And anyone who thinks that the economy is a simple problem that can be solved simply by a change of administration is going to be disappointed. It is an extremely complex problem that will take years to correct - no matter who is in charge.

Apparently you have never scene a graph of where the governments debt came from? Anyone who looks at it can see that the Bush tax cuts have make our country sick. They have turned out government into an anorexic. And, Perry believes in God so he is either a liar or a lunatic.

I was going to say.. We need a president that will make decisions that will get our economy back on track. At this point it doesn't matter WHO is responsible (because let's be real it wasn't just ONE person), but who can FIX this problem. Rick Perry!!!

I'm Gay, BUT, this we need to realize that if there is not a strong Country to have our rights in, then what is the use to have the rights. Not necessary a Perry fan but lets hold this administration accountable and not just vote for them because of a "promised" tomorrow…

    Re: nicky45

I believe that God hate you.

  31. 31

If you are NOT wealthy and you are a Republican you are indeed a very stupid f*ck.

  32. 32

Consider the Texas that Perry holds up to the rest of the nation for admiration. It has the fourth-highest poverty rate of any state. It tied with Mississippi last year for the highest percentage of workers in minimum-wage jobs. It ranks first in adults without high school diplomas. Twenty-six percent of Texans have no health insurance — the highest percentage of medically uninsured residents of any state. It leads the nation in the percentage of children who lack medical insurance. Texas has an inordinate number of employers who provide no insurance to their workers, partly because insurance rates are high, thanks to an absence of regulations.

  33. 33

The economic picture in Texas isn’t as rosy as Rick Perry portrays it.

For one, state lawmakers have spent much of the year grappling with a budget shortfall that left them $27 billion short of the money needed to continue current state services.

In addition, while the national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent and the Texas unemployment rate is 8 percent, some 23 states, including New York, have lower unemployment rates, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Perry often talks about the robust growth of jobs during his tenure. But jobs grew at about the same rate during Democrat Ann Richards’ four years as governor.

Liberal states like Massachusetts and New York had stronger GDP growth in 2010 than the Lone Star State.

When do we get to read about the “Massachusetts Miracle”?

The national debt was $8.6 trillion when Pelosi took over in 2007.
    -
    Only 4.5 years later, $14.6 trillion. A 70% increase in 4.5 years.
    -
Why is Obama's plan to tax and spend us into oblivion appealing to you?

  35. 35

    Kim K's SAGGY Ass

Why do you hate gays so much? Is your husband gay?

  36. 36

    Re: luvs2tango

Well, I'm not going to outright state that Obama has lowered everyone's taxes but for the third straight year, Americans will pay less money in federal taxes than they did when George W. Bush was president.

Income tax payments this year will be nearly 13 percent lower than they were in 2008, the last full year of the Bush presidency according to projections by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

And yet 1 in 3 thought that taxes had gone up, with only 1 in 10 realizing that taxes had gone down.

It seems that Obama is facing something that is difficult to overcome: an ignorance gap. People are ignorant to the positive changes he's made as they are primarily being fed the negative and perceived negative and the outright false negative stuff that certain members of mainstream media are pushing.

It's sort of ridiculous that only 1 in 10 Americans actually realized something so obvious.

  37. 37

    Re: luvs2tango

You are very simple minded. When big corporations get tax cuts they do not use the money to create jobs. They store it in overseas tax shelters. The Bush tax cuts have caused all our problems because they have taken trillions of dollars out of circulation in the USA. Do you really think Exxon Mobile deserves another big tax break while your grandmother is being dumped onto the street? Give me a break. Oh the poor rich. My heart just bleeds.

  38. 38

BO is incompetent and will be a one term pres. He needs to go back to being a community organizer, race baiter, and purveyor of class envy. He's grown the welfare state; once honorable people now have their hands out waiting to be fed by the government. It's pitiful. By the way MO loves her food and vacations, spending over $10 million in taxpayer funds to pamper herself while the employment in the US rate is over 9%. She's disgraceful.

  39. 39

After facing a $6.6 billion budget hole, Texas used $6.4 billion of Federal money to help patch it, allowing the state to keep its $9.1 billion emergency fund intact.

But on the same day he asked for the bailout money, governor Rick Perry started a petition called "No Government Bailouts." Indeed, Perry is a consistent critic of government spending, frequently pointing to his own state as proof that budget austerity — spending cuts coupled with low taxes — works.

But now, with the stimulus money running out, and with the economy still sluggish, Texas is projected to run a nearly $27 billion deficit over the next two years, according to the state's own estimate.

To stave off that shortfall, lawmakers are planning cuts that include funds for Medicaid, education and child care.

    Re: Matrix

So I guess you want to give Exxon Mobile another huge tax break? Are you wealthy yourself? I were hope so because there won't be any money to give you a helping hand with you college tuition. The super rich people have all the money socked away.

  41. 41

Re: AttFinch – Man it must be so nice to be as smart as you, always calling anyone who doensn't agree with you ignorant dumb racist etc etc etc. You do realize that republicans make more money because they work for it and get an education. I'm sorry if your poor but barry has failed in healthcare, leadership as well as illegal citizenship… i could go on for days. You have got to be smart enough to know good ol barry is done 38 percent favor him… even the blacks are tired of him.

  42. 42

Re: Matrix – wasn't this "story" about Michelle Obama spending 10 million of taxpayers money on vacations reported by the National Enquirer? well then it must be true. LOL!

  43. 43

Re: nicky45 – actually it is quite miserable having half a brain and living in this once great country of ours. to have to endure the bullshit that so many conservatives and uniformed buffoons like you spew on a daily basis is pretty painful.

  44. 44

rick perry ruins texas on a daily basis (believe me i am stuck living here) DO NOT let him ruin the country. he said less than a month ago he would make a terrible president, BELIEVE HIM. if you have any brains whatsoever DO NOT vote for him. take it from someone who has had his agenda shoved down their voting throats for years.

  45. 45

Re: AttFinch – There you go again with the name calling… are you 12?
Two things before I go. 1 copying and pasting does not make you seem smart, it actually makes you look foolish. Do you have any orignal thoughts… this is a comment board einstein. 2 it seems no one agrees with anything you say. You said 9 out of 10 people are ignorant to obamas positive change. I'm going to stoop to your level by saying you are the 1 fucking moron who doesn't get how poorly this community organizer is doing. Keep asking for handouts and save those food stamps.

  46. 46

    Re: nicky45

Nicky honey lot's of Democrats including myself are doing very well in this economy. If you are doing poorly maybe you should get an education and stop blaming the guy who is trying to fix things. You are very gullible and very good at scapegoating to make up for your own lack. Exxon Mobile thanks you for their next big tax break. They are laughing all the way to the bank honey.

  47. 47

Perry sounds maybe OK, but right now am leaning toward Ron Paul very strongly. Will have to change my Registration from Dem to Rep so I can vote in the California primary. Sorry I wasted my vote on Obama last go around, but he seemed the lesser of two evils.

  48. 48

I hope Ron Paul makes it!

  49. 49

That's awesome. It will guarantee another 4 years for Obama.

  50. 50

I saw this guy last week selling used cars.

  51. 51

He's one of the most ignorant tools in politics. Pure shit kicker red neck.

  52. 52

Perry has driven Texas into the ground. Don't be fooled by his supporters saying how great he is, and how great Texas is doing. Texas isn't doing well, period. And they want to be their own country…

  53. 53

45% of the people of Texas didn't vote for this tool. He would bring the nation back 80 years.

  54. 54

this would be terrible. he doesnt believe in science or birth control for that matter. i'd rather not have someone in office who is just going to push their religious agenda on the american public.

  55. 55

Um, yeah…So I'm guessing a lot of you don't know about Rick Perry's "alleged" extra-curricular interests? (I use the quotes intentionally, because here in Austin we have lots of folks who've seen the debauchery first-hand.) Seriously, if the truth about him doesn't come out, the man must be a true master of the dark arts.

  56. 56

All I know is that it took 200+ years for the US national debt to reach 10 trillion and Obama 3 years to add 4 trillion to it… so I don't think he is headed in the right direction and he needs to GO !!!!

  57. 57

come on!!!! are we kidding? this fricking moron along with sarah and that wacko from MN are actually going to take over our country?? they need to be eliminated from all their races, and i mean promto. Obama might night be having the strongest ratings, but he is definately cleanning up the biggest mess the wonderful texans ever created!!!!!!

  58. 58

Re: luvs2tango – I think Palin would ruin Perrys chances. People view her as a nut and it would split the independent vote and Obama would win. Any Republican who would put Palin on the ticket would lose. Now Perry himself has a good chance of winning. In fact I think almost anyone would win over Obama at this point. Many independent voters who voted for Obama the first time around are going to swing right this this time around.

  59. 59

To the democrats please answer something that confuses me about your beliefs. I know that generally Liberals are against corporate America when it comes to tax cuts. But why would you want to raise taxes on corporations? You do realize that if their taxes go up they are just going to inflate the prices on their products and pass those "extra" costs onto the people. You see that don't you? I could understand feeling that way if those costs wouldn't eventually trickle down to the people. But they would. If someone would be willing to explain why they feel that way please do so. (in an adult manner please I'm sick to death over the name calling) I'm actually interested I'm not being a smart ass.
