Monterrey's Casino Royale is home to Mexico's worst massacre since a gang crackdown over five years ago.
The arson attack occurred shortly after 3pm Thursday afternoon as armed men burst into the doors, lined the floors with flammable liquid, and lit the place in blazes.
Witnesses say they saw at least a dozen men rush in during the act of terror. Some say the men gave a quick warning to the casino's visitors, yelling "everyone get out" just moments before executing their plan.
Unfortunately, the warning wasn't fast enough. Stampedes were made toward the exits, but 53 died while countless others were left wounded and hospitalized.
Most of the victims were women and the elderly. Sad!
Even more unfortunate is how predictable this was for some Monterrey residents. The Nuevo Leon region has endured a myriad acts of organized crime as two major organizations fight for control.
It's so bad, bodies are regularly hanging under overpasses! Geez, it's like a darker General Hospital!
As for the most recent crime, speculation suspects the casino failed to pay protection money to a particular gang which resulted in fiery revenge.
Absolutely awful! It saddens us so much knowing events like this happen. While the world has been seeing heinous acts practically since it began spinning, it seems more and more are happening as the years progress. Constant wars with our neighbors across seas, the London riots, THIS.
Not to mention we're witnessing all of this as natural disasters happen left and right, goodness! What is going on with the world!?!
