Hands down the BEST performance of the night!! She almost brought me to tears!

  2. 2

Katy Perry introducing her? What an insult!
    (calm down it's a joke)

  3. 3

i love this song!!! all she needs is a piano and a mic. no gimmicks. love her.

    4

less is more. Thank you Adele. Behold, a real talent.

  5. 5

She's amazing. Love her. It's refreshing to see at least one talented act an a shitty awards show for once.

  6. 6

This is how performances should be. No costumes, no crazy behavior, no gimmicks; just a piano and her perfect voice. Best VMA performance in years.

  7. 7

definitely best performance of the night! adele is a true artist

  8. 8

She looked absolutely stunningly beautiful!!!!! Talk about a real singer with the classiest of performances!!!! One of my favorite songs by her and she sang magnificently!!!! Love her!!!!

  9. 9

Re: Sick_girl – Katy Perry winning over her is the true insult.

  10. 10

I agree this was the best performance. Love that she keeps it simple and it's just about her voice.

  11. 11

A good performance, I liked it.

I hope she stops smoking though, because she will lose this voice if she doesn't stop.

  12. 12

    That was sad :(

  13. 13

    love love love the performance!!

  14. 14

boring. nothing really new in this song. i do agree losing to Katy Perry is an insult though. on the positive side, maybe it will inspire her to write another song for the fat chicks while drowning her sorrows with delivery pizza with some ben and jerry's for dessert…

  15. 15

The best on the whole show !!!!

  16. 16

    What a hog.

  17. 17

It was a wonderful performance vocally, but to be quite honest…I got bored half way through the song.

  18. 18

    Just a phenomenal singer.
True talent, so rare these days.

  19. 19

Re: dlstxmale – lmfao thats horrible

  20. 20

Wasn't really a big fan of Adele until this performance. I will be buying the album ASAP. It brought me to tears. Absolutely unbelievable.

  21. 21

I don't think she is good live. Her voice is good but what is the word for vocal photoshop? She sounds much better on her cd.
She is a transcending talent though. Superb songwriter.

  22. 22

I was a bit underwhelmed with Adele's performance, her vocals were shaky at the beginning of the song plus I am totally sick of hearing this song. Yeah she has a great voice and yeah it WAS a good song but its been ruined by being overplayed. She should have sang one of her other songs, this was a major yawnfest ;o)

  23. 23

Re: Cha_Cha_the famous – I thought that myself, I've heard her sing this song live in the past with exactly the same shaky vocals at the beginning, although, to be fair, she does nail it once she gets into the swing of things. Thing is, this is the VMAs and people expect big performances, this would have gone down better at the Grammys.

  24. 24

An amazing performance! I can't wait to see her @borgata Oct 7!

  25. 25

"less is more" …completely true! her voice is just so pure and good. i love it. and honestly, i don't really enjoy her music much because it brings me to tears, however there is no doubt this woman has a shitload of talent and is very respectable!!

  26. 26

Adele is an amazing singer. Loved her performance. Glad to see she is well again.

  27. 27

I had chills going up and down my spine plus a tear trailing down my face. She is most definitely a goddess!!!!!!!! THE BEST PERFORMANCE EVER!!!! MAY ADELE REGIN FOREVER!!!!

  28. 28

Re: Saetana – you must be a lady gaga fan and enjoy the overproduced gimmicks. adele is extremely shy and any shakiness u hear is the result of nerves…this one performance is proof that true artistry is because of pure, raw, unmistakable, vulnerable talent and not of alter egos and a look-at-me personality. adele is flawless and i so desperately miss such simplistic, amazing performances. they seem to have disappeared with this new (TERRBILE) era of american music.

  29. 29

beautiful, inspiring, breathtaking. Adele was amazing. Incredible performance!!!!!

  30. 30

She's definitely still recovering from that laryngitis…doesn't sound like herself! She's WAY better than this!

  31. 31

She is really lovely, I like exciting performances as much as anyone, but hearing a music performance when someone is actually singing is the best.

  32. 32

Girl has GOT to stop smoking. This was beautiful, but her vocals were shaky by more than just emotions. She has been given a gift, and is throwing it away.

  33. 33

Re: brunetshavmorfun – If nerves make her voice shake then what is she doing onstage in the first place? There are plenty of stars who get a bit nervous before they go on but you don't hear it in their voice. She is a great recording artist but only an average live performer, I don't think her sort of music comes across well in venues like the VMA awards. Given you have admitted her voice was shaky then she is hardly flawless, is she? I think Adele has a great voice and is talented but she is a little overrated, particularly when it comes to live performance, this isn't the first time I've heard her singing shaky vocals. Get away from the serious Adele fans and the general opinion is her performance was pretty average. Lets face it, she probably wouldn't have been performing there at all if she wasn't nominated for several awards in the first place, I have no idea why she was nominated as the video in question was seriously tedious, VMAs is supposed to be for great videos not great songs ;o)

  34. 34

    Re: bmarie126
"This is how performances should be. No costumes, no crazy behavior, no gimmicks;"
But gimmicks aren't the bad thing people try to pretend they are. I'm pretty sure The Beatles, Bowie, KISS, Madonna, Dolly Parton,Queen, Eurythmics, Culture Club or even the late MJ or Elvis along with a host of others would have disagreed with you.

  35. 35

Her voice was rough because she's been abusing it.
    .
    Such a superb talent.
    .
    DON'T overwork your voice
    .
    STOP drinking
    .
    QUIT smoking
    .
Oh, and a little less weight could only help your voice, stamina and health in general.

  36. 36

Saetana, you are letting your (obviously biased) opinion get in the way of the facts. You state it's only serious Adele fans who liked the performance. Funny that, I'm assuming you would agree that serious Adele fans would already have the album that contains the song? But Someone Like You has in the few short hours since the performance leapt from #12 to #3 on US iTunes and is easily the biggest gainer from the VMAs (it's clearly heading for #1 when the US wakes up). Are you suggesting serious Adele fans are downloading the song even though they already have it? If not, who is? Maybe the general public who clearly thought she stole the show? Just a thought. But do carry on with your delusion as it is amusing me and (i'm assuming) others….

  37. 37

I love Adele, I think she's wonderful, talented and genuine - a true artist. But, I do think her voice has changed a little, it isn't as good as it was. I don't know if it's due to her nerves, which she has been open about, or something else. I miss that perfect voice, which would always make me just sit there listening in awe.

  38. 38

i'm a huge adele fan but i agree her voice was shaky in this. i think you're right in saying she isn't quite ready for huge arenas like that one. i've seen her live and shes amazing, her voice and presence are breathtaking. this is only her second album, hopefully in years to come she'll gain more confidence and find her feet and her huge performances like this will be much better.

  39. 39

    BEAUTIFUL

  40. 40

I guess people are so impressed that Adele can stand in front of a piano and sing without gimmicks, that now she's considered somewhat of a rebel or groundbreaking in the industry. Maybe in this day and time, it is considered groundbreaking. Sure she has a good (but IMO, not great) voice, but the whole white UK chick doing "soul" is nothing new and has even been done better within the last couple of years (Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse). And I'm sure it's easy to relate to a post break-up album very much the same way people did 15 years ago with Alanis Morissette, which gives her album an even greater selling point. Yeah, this is a good performance, but you can go on YouTube and see several exact performances of this song. Not much variation at all. She doesn't have to go to the extreme like other performers or create some larger than life image, but I do hope in future performances she gains a little bit more confidence and steps it up a little, because right now it's really hard for me to buy into all this hype surrounding her.

  41. 41

Just breathtaking! What a gorgeous voice.

  42. 42

Re: dlstxmale – gaga fan i presume? after all, you dont obviously know what talent is.

  43. 43

She was amazing. Her moving of the hands was driving me crazy.

  44. 44

Now that Amy is gone Adele is the best Blue-Eyed Soul Singer of this generation.

  45. 45

    She is soooooooo stunning!

  46. 46

It wasn't as good as the Brit performance but still excellent, one of the best songs out this year.

  47. 47

she gives me goosebumps everytime she sings this song. What a talented person, can't believe she is only 23.

  48. 48

Re: Saetana – Umm where are they over playing this song? Did you not watch it? because this song isn't even really out right now.. You must be thinking of rolling in the deep.. and based off your comment.. you really didn't watch her performance..sorry But I have to call you out on that.

  49. 49

Re: Connor – The problem with Lady Gaga fans, (such as yourself, I'm assuming), is that you guys are truly unable to just sit back and enjoy good music. Why does music need to be accompanied by a huge outrageous performance full of sex and gimmicks? All that does is mask the fact that you're singing a shitty song.

And actually, her shyness and nerves just exposes her vulnerabilities and makes her singing even more beautiful.

All the hype about Adele is about how honest and beautiful her music is.. so don't buy into the hype if you don't want to, but it's your loss!

  50. 50

Re: Saetana – yeah, just like how MTV is supposed to be all about music…? adele is the most successful recording artist of the year and thus deserved recognition. there is nothing overrated about her, because she only needs herself and her voice to give, by most accounts, the absolute best performance of the night. sometimes perfection does not make a performance flawless - true flawlessness has to do with raw talent and vulnerability. despite shakiness, she proved what good music SHOULD be like. she used talent to create "oohs" and "ahhs," while other performers that night created "oohs" and "ahhs" by freaking people out.

  51. 51

    Re: LUCASAZ – well said!

  52. 52

You are so right calling her a 'gorgeous goddess' - she definitely is just that! I totally love love love Adele!!

  53. 53

THANK YOU to all you who gave such positive comments about Adele! There ARE people out there who still GET and recognize real talent. Gaga HAS real talent too…remember she writes her own music AND she can play the hell out of the piano. THAT is an artist whether you go for her theatrics or not…which I agree could be tamed a bit…that "male persona" Joe whatever was getting annoying by the end of the show. Also, remember that the great Barbra Striesand deals with horrible stage fright but it doesn't take away from her amazing talent, so give the young Adele a break. To those idiots commenting about her weight…mind your own goddamn business.

  54. 54

whoever doesn't like this performance is an idiot… or needs to get their ears checked she was amazing… raw… i love that adele is not your typical skinny chick i see people commenting that she is fat so what…. stop trying to bash her in order to make your self feel better!

  55. 55

    Re: LUCASAZ
"The problem with Lady Gaga fans, (such as yourself, I'm assuming), is that you guys are truly unable to just sit back and enjoy good music."
And your problem is you make baseless assumptions. You also can't read, because I stated that it's alright if she doesn't resort to gimmicks. Whether or not I'm a GaGa fan has no bearing on how I feel about this performance, and if you want to discuss my knowledge and appreciation of music artists that are in the several hundreds, spans over several genres, and goes back nearly 70 years, we can do this! :) Which is why I doubt my buying into this hype is going to be my loss, since I've seen and heard it all done before. I do enjoy good music, such as Adele (which I never said I didn't; another one of your intelligent assumptions). I just don't always like things that I'm constantly being told I have to like.
PS. The lack of gimmickry that you seem to applaud can be seen as a gimmick in itself.

  56. 56

I think her voice is different because she's started with a singing coach, to learn how to use her voice, without hurting it. She's probably thinking a lot more technique and control, than she used to. Before it was just raw power and emotion..

  57. 57

She has a good voice but the performance was boring. In america we want dancing and singing to keep us interested. The talent is there but she will never have the same fame as other pop singers.

  58. 58

Re: Connor – For the record, by replying to your comment, I was sort of lumping yours and Saetana's comments together and replying to both, but anyway, its irrelevant. I just find it interesting that you're taking time out of your day to post paragraphs about an artist you find lackluster/boring/"others do it better"/etc.

No, I have no desire to hear about the music you like. BTW, music from 70 years ago? Really? ;) Also, since you do enjoy Adele's music, then you technically are buying into the hype. And nobody is telling you that you have to like anything. Anyway. Happy Monday!

  59. 59

    Re: LUCASAZ
"I just find it interesting that you're taking time out of your day to post paragraphs about an artist you find lackluster/boring/"others do it better"/etc. "
It's called a commentary. If you just expect people to just write nice, flattering things about people all the time, that kind of shows your lack of critical thinking, not mine.
    *
"BTW, music from 70 years ago? Really? "
Perhaps you're just limited in your gay ass music from this era (Katy Perry? Really?), which might explain why you find it hard to believe I can like something from 7 decades ago. I suppose you have heard of Billie Holiday? Peggy Lee? Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan? Eh…I guess not, but those artists have a following to this day, believe it or not.
    *
"Also, since you do enjoy Adele's music, then you technically are buying into the hype.
I said I liked it; didn't say I loved it or was a huge fan. Nice try! :)

  60. 60

    Re: Cha_Cha_the famous
Maybe Adele's voice sounded different because it was live unlike some of the other performers who were more interested in their wardrobe & dancing to sing live.

  61. 61

Adele is AMAZING!!! love her! brittney spears needs to retire shes shit and looks old as fuck…

  62. 62

    Holy crap! This was fantastic!!!

  63. 63

Adele performance was heartfelt and amazing. Whereas you have Chris Brown floating round the room and lip synching on a par with Britney's various performances. I cannot even believe Britney is getting voted for anything her singing is shocking and clearly she has zero personality she is incapable of speaking when receiving an award!!!! Yes I do like Lady Gaga and if she got rid of all the props I would put her on a par with Adele but can do without all the fakeness and as for the dressing as a man thing it was just completely cringeworthy.

  64. 64

That girl surely got talent!!!she doesn't use dancing to cover her being untalented , just like others do!!!! She is one woman show with the voice!!!brilliant talent!!!!!!!

  65. 65

She makes me so proud to be British. Well done, Adele!
