Bruno Mars performed Amy Winehouse's Valerie, in tribute to the late singer, at the 2011 MTV VMAs.

It was lively, but still very touching.

Amy would have been proud.

I think they needed Mark Ronson up there and someone with a stronger voice than Bruno Mars!

how adorable is Adele :-) !?

  4. 4

i liked it. their tribute to her didn't suck like i expected and wasn't some kind of media attention grabbing scam.

the only part of the VMAs that was honest.

  5. 5

Bruno and Adele……the only artists at the VMAs

I thought the performance was amazing, though I would like to point out that it's not necessarily Amy's Valerie, but actually the song was originally written and performed by The Zutons.

They should have used both Robin Thicke and Mark Ronson instead of this frog looking monkey. Bruno thinks he is better than what he is.

    Re: lulupoopoo

That may be true but it's not a tribute to The Zutons. It's a tribute to Amy Winehouse. It's not terrible but I do think it could have been done a lot better.

it was nice but i do agree that they needed a stronger singer. And all the dancing was unneccesary

Re: paulineypiess – Its true but it could had been better. Britneys tribute ended up being like a poor opening act for Beyonce´s baby and it felt like they were just using her for the sake of the others, Lady Gaga was too much and pretty annoying, but to be honest i no longer expect anything from the Vmas since for a long time its been pure shit, i cant watch the whole thing without feeling like eyerolling. Amy deserved someone close to her and i have nothing against Bruno Mars but a deeper connection to her was neccesary to really deliver.

Bruno ROCKS. It's not about a big voice its about making music you want to hear, dance to, sing to and captures a feeling. Bruno is a big talent.

  12. 12

BRUNO MARS IS CRAZY TALENTED. THIS GUY HAS IT. WHEN I SEE HIM PERFORM I AM ALWAYS AMAZED AT HOW GREAT HE TRULY IS. GREAT JOB

Please, can we stop acting like Amy Winehouse was so beloved? People weren't so touched when she was alive, when it counted. Instead they would post unflattering pics of her drugged-up, drunk self all over tabloids instead of helping her. All these tributes are crap. Either way, I'm glad Bruno Mars performed. He's so hot: that voice, those hips, that hair!

  14. 14

loved it !!! one of the very few people there with any talent..

  15. 15

Although it is a good cover, if they wanted to honour Amy, he should have sang a song she actually wrote and claimed as her own like "you know im no goood" or "back to black".

  16. 16

    Very tasteful. What a relief.

  17. 17

definitely should have had mark ronson up there. he called her his musical soulmate … love bruno mars… but someone closer to her should have been up there celebrating her brilliance.

Bruno's a real artist. Nice job.

I don't know why so many people hate this guy. He is extremely talented. Him along with Adele are the only talented artist of this year so far. Katy Perry?? come on she's a useless talentless twat. Lady Gaga?? need I say more she was trying to be a man, and was horrible she has a good voice but all the "acting like a badass man" was unnecessary. Anyways what people don't understand is that instead of being a self-absorbed prick, Bruno could've sang the lazy song but no he sang in tribute to Amy, that shows a lot from him. Music isn't the same anymore, nowadays anyone can be a singer such as katy perry, kesha, selena gomez, etc., Now it doesn't even matter if you are a really good talented singer it's all about looks. So don't bash on the guy!!!

  22. 22

Bruno did a good job I just didn't expect him to do the tribute I think they should have picked someone with a connection to Amy. It didn't feel personal but that's not bruno's fault again he did great.

Never saw Bruno Mars perform before, but I loved it. I thought it was really great, the performance and dancing was awesome. I loved the audience shot of Adele singing along and then seeing she was caught and playing it cool. So cute! If it was a song she wrote or a best friend of hers it woulda been too sad. Plus she's barely in the ground, and I wouldn't like it if they had someone else doing her songs already. It was upbeat yet respectful. It brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my lips at the same time. It was to remind us of her magic, not have a memorial service. Mars's performance was great; strong but not over the top. You could enjoy him but it wasn't so overpowering that he drowned out the echo of Amy in my mind. It was kinda perfect.

Having one cokehead tribute another. Always keeping it classy, MTV.

  25. 25

Re: casablancas89 – I couldn't agree with you more…how much worse can the music industry get…I suppose they could just put a naked puppet on stage and move her lips…the really sad thing is that kids would probably still line up and pay crazy money to see it, defending the puppets right to "entertain"…*sigh* so sad.

  26. 26

Re: butt666 – You took the words right out of my mouth. No matter how old I get I will probably always watch the VMA's just for special moments like this.

  27. 27

    Loved it!

  28. 28

Ohh deary me Amy was an AMAZING artist her lyrics where are so touching so I ask this question why cover a song that isn't her's? She covered it in the BBC live lounge and by then it was already a well known song by The Zutons so well done MTV for f*cking up once again I have lost all respect for you.

  29. 29

I thought it was absolutely perfect. Bruno Mars is a true talent, and did so well paying tribute to Amy.

No idea why they chose this as a tribute to Amy, she didn't write this song, Mark Ronson didn't even write the song, it was a cover of the original by The Zutons. With all the great songs she wrote, choosing this is sheer idiocy and a little offensive. It would have been better to have a female singer as well, I cannot stand Bruno Mars.
