More Les Mis Casting Rumors! Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe & Helena Bonaham Carter All Being Considered!

Seriously, whoever is in charge of the casting department for this is just freakin' genius. We know most of you are shaking your heads and going, "This is just going to be like musical Valentine's Day: tons of celebs with no substance."

We have one word for you: Chicago. Go watch Renee Zellweger work it as Roxie and then come talk to us.

Okay, here's the scoop:

On the heels of the rumor that Emma Watson is up for the role of either Eponine or Cosette in upcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables, word is that Anne Hathaway is the latest leading lady in contention to play Fantine, a poor woman rescued by Valjean, who will be played by Hugh Jackman. Other ladies up for the role include Amy Adams and Rebecca Hall, but if we could play favorites for just a hot second, we want to see Anne do this so bad. Maybe if she can pull this off, that Judy Garland movie that was rumored like two years ago might actually take off!

Anne isn't the only A-lister being rumored to be up for big roles in this flick. We're also hearing that Russell Crowe may be up for the part of Officer Javert, Geoffrey Rush for Thenardier and Helena Bonaham Carter for Madame Thenardier.

Oh hell yes! Master of the House as performed by Geoffrey and Helena? We'd leave it on repeat FOREVER!!!

We can't say we're objecting to any of the choices being talked about at this point. Everyone is a solid actor and most have Broadway in their blood, so we know they can belt out a tune. But c'mon now! We need to know what hunky men are up for the parts of Marius and Enjolras!

Nick Jonas? Daniel Radcliffe? ZAC EFRON?! ZOMG! New dream realized!!!

Thoughts? Can U think of some different people for the roles? Better people even???

That is your example?! Chicago???? Rene was the WORST part of that movie. She should not have been cast.

  2. 2

Sometimes producers don't get that you shouldn't touch a classical show like that :S:S Just leave this one in the theatres please. It's AWESOME there, don't ruin it by making a movie out of it. But thats my opinion…

I dont like Watson neither Hathaway. They both exhude "boooooring". I just cant look at that huge mouth Hathaway has and Watson still hasnt convinced me that she is a girl… it always feels like a boy with a dress.
And about the last Chicago version, Renee always acts the same so nothing she did surprised me, I did like a lot Catherine, she was sexy.
I like musicals but these actors are naaaw.

Rush and Bonham Carter are perfect as the Thénardiers. But Anne as Fantine… Hmm, not so sure. And can Emma Watson even sing? Cosette and Eponine aren't the easiest roles to play vocally.
And no to Nick Jonas. He sang the role of Marius fairly well, but his acting was weird. Maybe Jonathan Groff?

russel crowe is one hell of an actor and worthy of this role however hes been looking more comfortable of late eating a cheeseburger than playing a big shot i cant imagine hell be doing a bit of gym work beforehand as for hathaway she never did lose the gawky teenager look … weird my bf thinks shes beautiful but then he also thinks everyone is beautiful even me and cant even spell the word he thinks its beutifial

ughhh i cannot stand Anne Hathaway she needs to just retire or something. She is so awful her acting is painful.

  7. 7

    Hathaway? Really? Why?!

  8. 8

IDK why… but Anne Hathaway just doesn't do it for me. I am still weirded out over the decision to make her cat woman.. she hardly has natural sex appeal.. and comes across like she should play the girl next door and dorky roles.. not feeling her!

Honestly, I cannot stand Anne Hathaway. Her acting is grating, irritating and just plain bad. She is a classic "over-actor" who has none of the subtlety and nuance required for deep roles. Ew. Do not cast her, please. Also not as huge fan of Emma Watson, either…she definitely seems like a nice girl but she cannot act either!

I love Les Mis and would love to see an excellent film production of it…but why don't they use actual Broadway actors, a la "Rent"? Stuffing this film with Hollywood stars might get people to the theater but the real core fan base of this show will absolutely hate it.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooo ANYONE but Anne Hathaway!
    P.S. And Renee Z. SUCKED.

Chicago was only as good as it was because they waited 30 years after the original, so the crowd of people who had seen the original's truly gifted, talented stars and awesome choreography had thinned out. What helped was that it was also sexy, funny, and fast paced - three qualities Les Miz lacks. No matter how many stars it has, its fated to just be another Sweeny Todd or Phantom.

for Enjolras none other than Ramin Kariloo will do. Not sure who he is look him up

  13. 13

No Jonas Bros, please! They couldn't have picked a worst Marius for the 35th anniversary. No Efron either! But I'll be jumping with joy if they cast Bonham Carter & Rush.

Looking forward to this movie. If you don't think Nick Jonas can sing and act, you should see him in Hairspray. He did a good job in both the O2 concert (which was music not acting) and the WestEnd play. And over that last year has begun to sound even better. He would make a perfect Marius. Ramin would make a great Enjolras.

    Re: felicity13
It was the 25th anniversary. I think Nick Jonas did a really great job as Marius.

  16. 16

Love the idea of Hathaway, Hate the idea of Crowe (he can act, but voice would need to be dubbed to sing STARS), Neutral on Rush and Bonham-Carter. Since Jackman is in the lead for box office draw, they can afford some unknowns for other roles who simply have great voices. but please NO NO NO on anyone with the last name Jonas.

    Re: deathcabjenny2 – you're right, didn't realize I wrote 35 instead of 25

  18. 18

I am so sick of Amme Hathaway! Pleeeeease no!

  19. 19

Actually, I saw Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl and Nick Jonas really surprised me. He would be an excellent Marius now that he is older, he is so much better than Zac Efron vocally.
