True Fans Of Star Wars Call For Boycott Of Altered Blu-Ray Edition

George Lucas Fs With Star Wars Again

We don't understand why George Lucas can't just stop f*cking with the original Star Wars Trilogy. Yeah, sure, we WANT him to do some awesome transfers to make sure it looks amazing on blu-ray, but that's it.

Especially don't add unnecessary shizz in an apparent attempt just to mess with loyal fans!

Let's lead off with a testimony that George Lucas himself gave to Congress about destroying works of cultural heritage:

People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society.

In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.

Attention should be paid to this question of our soul, and not simply to accounting procedures. Attention should be paid to the interest of those who are yet unborn, who should be able to see this generation as it saw itself, and the past generation as it saw itself.

Annnnnnd that's what we call hypocrisy! Congrats, George, you've negated any argument you could have had as to why you "updated" these classics time and time again.

Now, here's why the fans are upset:

For instance, Darth Vader in Return Of The Jedi specifically yells “Nooooo! Nooooo!” when the Emperor is trying to kill Luke. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Krayt Dragon howl is noticeably different in Star Wars aka A New Hope. The Ewoks’ eyes have been CGI’ed and now blink. Yoda’s not quite the same Yoda of yore because of digitalized alterations.

This isn’t the first time George Lucas has released special editions, adding new scenes and special effects. But there are widespread online campaigns cropping up to boycott this new Blu-ray collection when it goes on sale September 16th.

“Nobody has found a way to squeeze more cash out of a film franchise than George Lucas has done with Star Wars, and he’s at it again.”

Read that part in bold, and hear the truth! We can't stand that he's doing these things too. Nothing would be more incredible than a blu-ray edition of the original trilogy WITHOUT any tweaks. That's childhood. He's messing with our childhood.

Shame on you, George! You should have at least included the OPTION TO CHOOSE which edition you wanted to watch!

How do U feel about these changes??

gaga is an unoriginal copycat hag. she owes Madonna half of her income. this has nothing to do with this posting but it needs to said as often as possible.

I wouldn't really care if there was at least an option to watch the untweeked version.

Also, I would like to share this George Lucas quote from many years ago, "people who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians." Oh, the irony.

I actually dont mind. I have seen the blu ray changes. My only gripe was with Return of the Jedi. The early Jabba scene when the music starts playing. He changed the tune and added this cheesy ass CGI dance routine blues revue with a toothpick with lipstick singing. CHEESY!!!!!!!!!! Change it back - you have ruined my childhood! Almost!

Why does Lucas keep doing this?!? As far as I'm concerned, there are only three TRUE Star Wars movies: Episodes 4, 5, and 6. The other ones (1, 2, and 3) are crap. I was sooooo disappointed when they came out. All that CGI bullshit was so unnecessary and they simply don't have the look and feel as the original three. Those are the worst movies ever and a complete waste of time and money.

The least Lucas could have done was have 2 options either on 1 disc or 2 different versions. 1 unaltered (Would sell way more copies) other than digitally remastering for Blu-ray. 2, would be all the crap he's added through out the years. Listen to your fans ass wipe!

I'm waiting for another edition of the original trilogy where Lucas CGI's an entire new cast. Luke - Justin Beiber
    Han - Zac Efron
    Leia - Selena Gomez
Lando - That man in the old spice commercials.

Perez, darling. You are the Queen of hypocrisy. You really shouldn't be commenting on this at all.

  8. 8

We have the original 3 movies on DVD, that's it. We saw the 1st 3 and wasn't impressed, we didn't buy any of the "added" crap that came after either.

Could you post an uglier picture of an ugly old dude?

It would be one thing if his changes enhanced the movie. Last time he added a clip with the worst special effects ever.

    Retire all ready.

it's HIS fucking movie! Who are you to tell him how to see his own vision?

  12. 12

it's his shit and can do what he wants. if you don't like it DON'T BUY it,. quit whining punk

With every tweaking of what had been, from its initial inception, a brilliant film concept, George Lucas reveals more and more his utter lack of creativity and, perhaps, more and more of his fear. Apart from the Star Wars trilogy and, to some extent, the Indiana Jones franchise, the only other film in his oeuvre is American Graffiti. For all the money he's made, he's not half the filmmaker Peter Jackson has become. Why can't George Lucas simply direct another film and throw it out for the public to scrutinize? He's afraid of failing, that's why, so he clings to what he thinks is safe. However, Star Wars is no longer the center of geekdom and _his_ machinations over the films in the last 15 to twenty years bear this out. His fear is reducing his most-beloved creation to a monstrosity that will diminish in worth over time, and in turn will diminish his legacy.

  14. 14

Re: hacked – I was thinking the same. His own statement doesnt apply against himself because is HIS WORK. He can do whatever he wants to. Probably he just didnt feel that the movie ended up with all the things he really wanted , so he is just adding them or retouching them now. I think some fans are just too much. Because the Ewoks blink?… seriously?. Come on.

  15. 15

WTF George?????? Explain yourself. To have expressed your sentiments so eloquently and heroically while not honoring them is to ask people to do what– believe you? Take you seriously? We're confused. Do what you say and not what you do?

  16. 16

His movie, he can do what he wants with it.
Damn you all are some geeks.

  17. 17

Besides the money issue (and doesn't the dude have enough money?) its always seemed to me like George Lucas doesn't have much confidence in himself as a director. It's like he doesn't think what he's said before doesn't apply to him because he doesn't see his work as 'cultural heritage'. It's like he's always trying to 'fix' imaginary problems, make it perfect - he doesn't realise or accept that he got it right the first time.

  18. 18

George Lucas is the one who created Star Wars in the first place and he has the right to change it in any way he feels, but fans aren't "forced" to buy them. It's all a matter of personal choice.
On the other hand; I'd rather see Mr. Lucas open the door for unpublished fanfictions that have been written continuing the saga - most of which are quite good. Lucas doesn't realize - or refuses - to realize the amont of money Lucasfilms could make if he allowed his staff to read these stories that were written by "true Star Wars fans.

  19. 19

Lucas alos tweaked his classic "Ameican Graffiti" a little. Come on George, leave 'em alone!

  20. 20

    Damn you George Lucas!
I just wanna say…to those who say if you don't like it, don't buy it….
When Lucas "updated" the original 3 star wars the first time, it seemed so unnecessary and really didn't fit in. He can do what he wants with his work i suppose, and that isn't what my problem really is. My problem with it is that he made it so you couldn't purchase the movies WITHOUT the added cgi. There are no dvds available of the original versions!!! So basically if you enjoy the original star wars, and you want to buy it, YOU MUST buy his new crappy edited version. WTF do what you want but at least let me buy the one I want!!! Now if dvds become obsolete, and we only have blu-rays and more advanced technologies… we'll only have the most recent versions available again! JEEZ! I'm so grateful for pirated movies…..
