Ouch!

Well…we didn't expect her to take this all lying down!

Susan Lucci, who recently filmed her last scenes as Erica Kane on the canceled All My Children, has decided to write one nasty, pissed off epilogue to her memoir, All My Life, slamming ABC Daytime head Brian Frons as the sole blame for the soap's demise!

She writes:

“An iconic show was losing out to greed…If Brian Frons could show his bosses that he could save the network 40 percent…he could keep his job even if the rest of us lost ours. I watched Brian Frons’ decisions destroy the production of our show and the lives of people on both sides of the country. He has what, for me, is that fatal combination of ignorance and arrogance. I cannot fathom any network executive choosing to alienate millions of loyal viewers in these economic times.”

A rep for ABC has responded:

“We have all the respect in the world for Susan, and are sorry she felt the need to write this epilogue to an otherwise incredible career.”

Hey! We can't say we blame her!

We'd be pretty pissed off, too!

Preach, gurl! Preach!

Long live Erica Kane!

Susan, Eat a steak and a loaded baked potato for crying out loud. You look like a starving skeletor.

Susan doesn't seem to grasp that ABC is not a charity; it's a business … they're in existence to make money. She said herself that Brian Frons "could save the network 40 percent" by cancelling All My Children - in other words, he made a cost-saving business decision that was supported by Disney, who owns ABC. No tv show lasts forever and it was a rude and cheap shot for Susan to make that comment on her way out the door. It showed a lack of grace & professionalism on her part. She had a job she enjoyed for ~40 years and instead of being grateful for the experience & accepting the end with dignity, she chose to lash out like a spoiled child. Someone's played a diva on tv too long … it's drifted over into her personal life. At least ABC had the dignity to respond to her brattiness with class.

Re: Meggie246524 – Agreed. Susan had a good run - she should celebrate that.

Good for Susan Lucci! Both All My Children and One Life To Live have so many loyal fans. In my personal opinion I believe that Brian Frons deliberately helped destroy the soaps. He hires Chuck Pratt to be the head writer of a show but won't allow the creator (Agnes Nixon) in on any of the storytelling. Everyone who has watched both these shows know that it was Ms. Nixon's vision and respect for the characters that got them hooked.

Brian Frons is lucky she had the class NOT to specifically name him and his maneuvering for single-handedly destroying ABC's post-noon soap line up and alienating millions of fans. I really hope the replacement shows, which dont look like theyll be too interesting, fail miserably. AMC and 1L2L - and their fans - deserved better.

For those of you hatin' on her comments…she doesn't appear to be thinking of herself. She has always been grateful for her long career. She's speaking specifically to the lives that ABC has truly affected by cancelling the show. There were many actors from the show who moved their families from the east to west coast that were told that the move would save/elongate the show for years. That move wasn't so long ago. Those people did not get moving expenses, as that was clearly stated to the press. Soap actors, specifically the up and coming ones, don't really make a ton of money for the expenses they incurred over the past year with this show. I see her point. If they were going to cancel it, they shouldn't have cost the network more money by relocating it and not making cuts across the board. The actors agreed to lower salaries for the most part, including Susan Lucci….so she and they did their part to get the show moved to LA. It's just all too sad, because they were salvagable through SOAP network or other means….and instead it was just scrapped along with the lives/careers of many struggling actors.

I don't understand what people aren't getting here. ABC is not a non-profit organization. In order to compete with the other networks, they have to provide programming that will give them competitive viewership. Simply put, these soaps were not pulling in the numbers they needed to, as well as being much more expensive to produce than what would be economically successful.

This is nothing new, here. If the show doesn't make enough money to keep it afloat, it gets canceled, and there is no reason 'her' show should be any different. If she is calling this maneuver 'greed' she is either naiive or just selfish.

Re: tallguy10 – Did you not read her comments? She DID specifically name Brian Frons.

  11. 11

If I was Susan I'd be pissed too. She knows she won't get anymore work now that her shows been cancelled. I mean seriously, how many soap stars go on to have blockbuster careers in Hollywood?

    *crickets*

    Yea, that's what I thought.

Re: GayRay – Sorry darling. While I love my steak and spuds I love my Jazzercise even more! As my dear friend eminem says: your just a meany with a little weenie..

Re: Tansey214 – Actually, lots do: John Stamos, Meg Ryan, Julianne Moore, Laurence Fishburne, Eva Longoria, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, Demi Moore, Sarah Michelle Geller, David Hasselhoff, Marcia Cross, Josh Duhamel, James Earl Jones, Melina Kanakaredes, Hayden Panettiere, Marisa Tomei, Brad Pitt, Kelly Ripa, etc.

  14. 14

She finished filming for ABC this week so she is FREE AT LAST!!!!!! Glad to hear her speak out. It is exactly what we knew was happening but n o one employed there could speak. i love her and wish all my favorite actors the best in their new careers.

    Re: Meggie246524

They could save 100% juwst go off the air! They have alienated a large oportion of the country by cancelling these shows.

  16. 16

    #teamsusanlucci!

It takes a LOT for this classy lady to come out swinging and BRAVO for her to say what needs to be said and having the courage to do it so publicly.

@ABC. Firstly, FU! Secondly, this is NOT an epilogue to her career, this is a damning testimonial about YOUR network.

LOVE Susan Lucci. LOVED LOVED LOVED AMC!!! May they both break ground to rule the Web for years to come!!

  17. 17

Re: sayswho – "They could save 100% just go off the air!" And how would ABC going completely off the air bring in profits? I'm guessing you were a drama major, not a business major.

  18. 18

Disney and ABC have lost my business. One of my volunteer jobs is to visit elderly people who live alone and rarely have visitors. All My Children is a favorite show of a lot of elderly women. They love it when I watch the show with them. Susan Lucci is a class act. AMC will be missed by many. We don't need another talk show or food show. Stupid, stupid ABC. I only record one of their weekly shows to watch and I'll remove that programming from my DVR today.

  19. 19

I support you Susan! I will miss AMC!!! :(

  20. 20

I hope Brian Fons gets the clap from Casey Anthony. Think of the ratings!

  21. 21

I don't know about all markets but here in the deep south they are replacing it with some show called Chew or something. So I guess the network figures they will rake in huge money with another show that involves America's favorite pass time. Food.
Also, Susan Lucci was a devoted employee to that show and didn't let her ego take her off to possible better opportunities and this is the thanks she and others are getting.
Why oh why do Americans have such obsession with food and reality shows? A soap is a story not really to be copied but these teen pregnancy, food, wipe out type shows are setting a dreadful example for those who can't think for themselves. Soaps keep the crimes kind of innocent. If there is a death, yes there is a body but not laced with all the blood and gore of the evening shows that give all the sickos ideas for the day to day crimes in the US. JMO.

  22. 22

She did it in true Erica Kane Fashion! HA!

  23. 23

    Re: chichimagees – "Jazzercise"…….ok Bertha

  24. 24

Re: Meggie246524 – Bad business decisions are made everyday. Consumer loyalty should not be underestimated or taken for granted.

  25. 25

This is really sad, and I feel bad for all the employees who are losing their jobs. Having lost mine 1.5 years ago it is a tough market out there.

Always loved the ABC soaps (yep, I remember Demi Moore from I think General Hospital, she played a reporter). Not that I watch all the much TV (last time was to tune in to hear the Casey Anthony verdict and it happened to be on ABC) but I will not watch this channel anymore.

  26. @v@ says – reply to this

    26

They're the ones who wrote the number cruncher epilogue to an otherwise incredible show.
She simply mirrored it back. Good for her. Imagine them pretending in this statement that she ended with the sour note; standard soulless P.R. issue, rather than her chronicling it.

  27. 27

    Re: sayswho

Obviously they didn't alienate a large portion of the country, or the show would have had enough viewers to stay on the air.

And may I add how insensitive Susan Lucci is being right now? She is lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work in her dream career for 40 years, and getting millions for it, while the rest of the country is in a job crisis right now and she feels like the unlucky one? I may just be 21 years old, but even I know a good run when I see one.

  28. 28

I understand why fans are mad and it certainly sucks for everyone working on the show …but…tv shows get cancelled all the time. It's part of the business. If you're not bringing in enough viewers, you don't bring in enough advertising dollars…so they cancel you. And i can't help but wonder where all these fans were when ratings on soaps (all soaps, not just ABC) were dropping…

  29. 29

Re: pdrocksmysocks – The fans are there. True all the ratings our down but Brian Frons pushed out the creator of the show and brought in Chuck Pratt, who destroyed the show. The ratings were back on the rise when they got rid of Chuck Pratt and brought Agnes Nixon, the creator of the show back to the helm.

  30. 30

the bitch is like 100 years old already, time to give other actors on new shows a chance to shine. she should be be thankful for what she had and go out with some dignity. but of course shes just some shitty soap actress who thinks her shit dont stink

  31. 31

…oh shit sweety….wut happened to yer face >???
