DWTS Execs Considered Pairing Carson Kressley With A Male Partner

It would have been awesome if they went ahead and did that.

Dancing with the Stars execs said they considered pairing openly-gay Carson Kressley with a male dance partner. But instead, they opted to team him up with dancing vet Anna Trebunskaya.

Exec producer Conrad Green says:

"We thought about it. We try to follow what happens in real ballroom competitions. That was the original intention of the show. And while we are aware that there are same-sex couples, the competitions are usually mixed-gendered.

It’s a performance, like actors. We don’t think its odd pairing up dancers with incompatible sexual preferences, but based off abilities.

What we try to do is reflect a broad range of the entertainment world in the casting of the show. We're always trying to find new things that people haven't seen, new types of stories and that's what we've been doing this season."

And that's why it would have been really interesting if they partnered Carson with a man. We get that they want to mirror what's happening in the real dancing world, but this sounds like a bit of bullshiz to us.

Would U rather see Carson dance with a man or a woman??

I doubt Carson gives a shit. Perez you're making a big deal out of nothing. WHO CARES.

  2. 2

Who cares? There definition makes total sense, and as far as the show goes it makes sense. Quit making a mountain out of a molehill Perez

  3. 3

As someone who grew up in the dance world…I'm happy they paired him with a woman. Ballroom dancing is meant to be opposite genders, it just looks…better that way instead of having a man take the woman's part (as traditionally the man leads…and they can't both lead). I think it's great they have a very openly gay contestant on the show but this was definitely the better choice.

  4. 4

Re: pdrocksmysocks – I tend to agree.

  5. 5

You and Kressley would make the perfect pair, a couple of overly feminine, creepy gays. Only problem is you'd be classified as two females.

  6. 6

Boring. I mean, they have two same sex couples in Argentina, two sisters and then a gay actor with a heterosexual dancer, and it's not a big deal, I guess they were trying to make an impact but failed in the end. I don't think it would work in Dancing with the Stars US

  7. 7

I'm gay and would still rather Carson dance with a female. This isn't some platform for the homosexual agenda. It's dancing show.

  8. 8

I am trying to be open minded here, so if you can effectively explain why you feel so strongly about having two men partnered together on DWTS, I would really appreciate it. In my opinion, the art of dance has nothing to do with sexual orientation or any agenda or any need to prove anything to the public to gain acceptance. Dance is an art form. With coupled dance partners, there are a lot of things taken into consideration, such as silouette, lines, contrast, lifting, ect, Because the male physique is markedly different from a females, it creates a balance, which is also important in dance. With all due respect, Perez, is your desire to have two males on Dancing With The Stars is based on genuine love and respect for the art of dance, or is it based on selfishness?

I thought dancing was part of an art form not a sex act or a civil liberties issue. I want to see a gay man dance sure but paired w/ a women. I don't really want to see him tango w/ another man. Would I turn off the tv and throw a fit, of course not. I have seen some beautiful modern dance which was all boy and it was beautiful w/ lot's of sexual inuendo. But for what the show is (DWTS) I call BS on CG comment. CG if you are SOOOOOO for man on MAN ballroom why haven't we seen any on the boring features "special "performances during Any of the seasons…once again BS!

    10

if they partner him with Chaz will it be considred two males or males/females?

  11. 11

Dancing is an art form. They made the right decision.

  12. 12

I don't care to see him dancing with anyone tbh lol

  13. yeez says – reply to this

    13

Yeah, gay men dancing with women is almost unheard of in the dance world. Right.

  14. 14

Re: ed69 – Chaz has changed name and identity to male so now wants and feels and wants to be identified as male so will be dancing w/ a women as a male. Does that help?

  15. 15

The show is a ballroom dancing competition. It should follow the rules and format of dancing competitions.

  16. 16

Yes I think it would be interesting but I agree with DWTS, i think you are trying to make this a gay rights issue when there's no issue at all.

  17. 17

Unless it means something to the dude in question this is, at best, a non-issue. at worst its kinda homophobic of you to insist that a gay man MUST dance with a man - being gay doesn't affect your life in any other way than the sex of the person you are attracted to sexually. It has no bearing on any other aspect of your life, it does not dictate who you vote for, who you work for or who you dance with.

  18. 18

Two men or two women can't dance together. The weight balance would be wrong, meaning they couldn't properly execute lifts, spins etc. Since when does dancing have anything to do with sexual orientation? God you're a moron Perez

  19. 19

Perez, get the whole equal rights thing, i have gay friends and relitives and everything. What i don't get is the need to ram it down everyones troat. It even sickens my gay friend who told me that he is sick of all the double standards. It is like racism it is un called for but if someone dosnt get a job they claim discrimination for either race or being gay. when it could have been they just didn't have the qualifications. Get over yourself. Dancing with the stars has a openly gay professional dancer. Even he said that keep to tradition when it comes to dancing. get over it. not everything is about being gay, some things are about tradition!

  20. 20

definitely a woman, did that really need to be asked??

  21. 21

Re: smilesalot – - Actually, despite the government allowing people to redefine their gender, generally speaking, since the "plumbing" is still the same "Chaz" is still a woman. So "he" had "his" breasts removed, so what? Breast cancer patients can have a double mastectomy and still be considered a woman. The same with the so-called "pregnant man." At a genetic or cellular level, these people will always be considered women.

  22. 22

You should rename the site the-gay-agenda.

  23. 23

If it was "Fucking with the Stars," then yes, he should have been paired with a man. But it's not, so there's no controversy–who the fuck cares?

  24. 24

I'm so done with this show. This is a farce. Not one "celebrity" of any merit. I'll stick to "so you think you can dance"

  25. 25

Will someone please tell Mario that even openly gay men don't need to flaunt it all the time. I'm sure Carson could care care less.

  26. 26

Perez that would not work that would be dumb this is dancing not discrimination against homosexuallity. And I also thought it was stupid when you guys posted that Chaz Bono would be paired with a female partner no one expected Chaz to be paired with a man.

  27. 27

What does ballroom dancing have to do with sexuality? They don't pair men and women together because they are attracted to each other….although that is a nice bonus if they are…..but because the male and female form complement each other. The male and female each have a role…..something to give to the performance that just isn't there if it is 2 men or 2 women.
I really don't think that gay people think that EVERYTHING they do has to be coupled with another gay person. Its not all about gay or straight in life. Sometimes people just do things to have fun and interact with other people.
And have you ever considered that maybe Carson wouldn't WANT to dance with another man? Maybe he just wants to go and have fun and not feel like he has to be a poster child for gay rights.

  28. 28

Where could they possibly find a gay man who dances to be his partner?

  29. 29

i love carson usually i would agree perez but its not about matching lovers its dancing and they have males and females matched for the dances it makes for more showier outfits etc ..if it was lovers dancing then of course yes but its not

  30. 30

DWTS took a chance by featuring a pregnant Bristle Palin (now is her "god" child!) and had the viewing audience screw up the voting and challenge the wardrobe department, so having two mincing queens, although novel, will not do anything to bring back the ratings.

  31. 31

Its sad that DWTS is using gay rights or controversies just to get ratings. I think I am about to stop visiting this site because more & more everyday its Perez shoving everything gay down your throat

  32. 32

DWTS is just using gays & the controvesies as a ratings booster (which may backfire). I use to like this site but I think I am about to stop visiting because everyday Perze is shoving gay issues down your throat & Oh! look at what the Republicans said today ( & we all know that some doesn't have the sense that the Lord gave them inculding Dems). But let Lilo bug out about something someone said about her and he tells her to get over it, calm down its a joke. But let it be a gay joke and he is crying

  33. 33

I would love to see the reactions if they were to partner Carson with someone like Maks.

Fecal matter, meet air circulation device….

  34. 34

I think having Chaz on the show dancing with a woman is plenty for those who are stretching their old school viewpoints in order to be more accepting of different lifestyles. It would have been too much too soon if they ALSO went with Carson dancing with a man. Yes, for the people who have open minds, it would have been interesting and progressive and fun! But to those who are dedicated fans of DWTS, it may have been more challenging. I would think there is a large elderly population who watch the show, and they need to be introduced to this type of stuff bits at a time… not more than one 'controversial' dancing couple in a season. I would hate to see society move backwards due to something like DWTS being too progressive. I just want people to open their minds and their hearts to the Chaz world. That's plenty for this season of DWTS! Love you Perez!!! I see your point, but I say let's take it one step at a time. :)

  35. 35

Re: StephS41 – So true Steph!!! Maks is the kind of guy that women lose it over! I know he does wonders for my sweet dreams! :) For many people - yes! the shit would hit the fan! And then the whole point of it is defeated. Unfortunately. I wish we could have a society that is truly ready for two men dancing together. It's sad that we've got to get them to be accepting in small doses (such as hoping that Chaz can help people understanding the life of a transgender person). Someday, this kind of discussion will be unusual - as in saying that it's strange that people once didn't accept two gay men dancing together! That's likely way in the future, though. Sad, don't you think?

  36. 36

I did think DWTS would come up with an excuse why they didn't pair a Carson with a male partner. The USA is still too conservatice and anti-gay as evident by several of the comments who use the same excuses like "ballroom dancing rules" and "making a big deal out of nothing" and "it just looks better that way" and "mincing queens" to explain why it would be wrong for two men to dance together. Pfft. Would the same people be all "eww" if two women danced together? I doubt it. Next year DWTS better evolve even more! I'm thinking blind and wheelchair dancing! ;)

  37. 37

I think it's pretty ignorant of people to make so many assumptions about gender roles and how they're defined in mainstream media, it's just not acceptable. If Carson is fine with it, then I don't really see a problem, however I really appreciate that they paired Chaz Bono with a woman instead of being disgusting and pairing him with a man. If they ever allow a drag queen on the show, I'd expect them to pair her with a man, not a woman. Still, I'd like to see some groundbreaking on this show and have male/male or female/female pairings because those DO exist in the dancing world and no, they DON'T look works than opposite gender pairings, they can actually be much more graceful and beautiful for the additional effort they have to put into making it work.

  38. 38

What is it that you don't get!? Dancing isn't about your sexual preference, it's about your gender. They partner men and women together because you have to have a masculine dancer and a feminine one in order to make the dance work. You are so obsessed with who people f*** it is ridiculous! It shouldn't matter and doesn't matter in dancing; a man and woman dance. It isn't homophobic, it is just the balance.

  39. 39

He's dancing with them, not sleeping with them. It makes sense to keep him with a girl for the leading, lifting and the moves designed for a man to do with a woman. It would be almost impossible to do some of the moves if he had to lift a man of the same (or of a bigger) build as him.
