So You Think You Can Dance Canada Has Been Cancelled!

so you think you can dance canada has been cancelled

Hopefully the US version doesn't suffer the same fate

Despite a solid fourth season, we've just learned that Canada's version of So You Think You Can Dance has been officially cancelled.

Here's what Bell Media's vice-president of communications Scott Henderson had to say about it:

"I can confirm that So You Think You Can Dance Canada has not been renewed for a fifth season."

And here's a statement that Bell Media released shortly thereafter:

"The producers of So You Think You Can Dance Canada created four seasons of groundbreaking, high-quality television, delivering on a creative level everything you could ask for as broadcaster, and ending on a creative high note."

"After four seasons and 92 episodes, CTV has decided to pursue other program strategies. This decision was made after careful consideration, including viewership and economic factors. We remain extremely proud of the legacy of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, including raising the profile of dance in this country."

Between this cancellation and the loss of Canadian Idol back in '08, our neighbors to the north have NOT been having phenomenal long-term luck with their reality shows over the past few years!

Ah well! Hopefully some new shows will come out soon to fill the void for all those hardcore dance fans in Canada!

Will U miss So You Think You Can Dance Canada???

    It was bound to happen!!

The dancing was great. The host was a plastic surgery nightmare. And the head judge did too much yelling. Loved the dancers though - although not a fan of wearing a bra and panties as a 'costume'.

Is this considered a bad thing? I for one am glad that it's cancelled, because now I can just sit and laugh at the stupid fucking Americans on this show. It seems to me that Canada has evolved the retarded genre of television that is contest shows.

I think the Canadians have better taste than we do.

I'm a fan of SYTYCD, and I like the US version better (even if I'm Canadian) , the reason is simple..the head judge Jean -Marc is very annoying , he's a very good choreographer but as a judge, he's very bad, too much screaming for nothing…I stop watching because of him. Too bad, because the dancing was great, and it was a plateau for them to show their talent.

probably ran out of "stars" to put on the show.
They watch the American version anyway.

its because not that many people can dance
    this season most auditions
were people that came back again from last year
    thinking they can do better
    so…

That show was too high-budget for Canadian television to sustain. It was a fantastic show, but we've only got a few million people in Canada and there's not enough viewers to afford American-style shows. We should stick to the low-budget Canadian programming we're good at (like Hilarious House of Frightenstein…).

Re: xxAlphaKittenxx – Totally agree. Good dancing, I loved it but never knew when it was on. They just didn't advertise enough to get the viewership

Re: rosebud99 – Leah Miller (the host) won the title of Miss Junior Dance of Canada when she was 13 and danced on a competitive basis until age 16. That's probably why she was hosting. Agree on the (ikes) puffy, changed facial features. She was plenty cute before.

Very sad… great show and very smillar to the American version (hell.. we had most of the same choreographers, Mary Murphy and even Mia and Dan who no longer are connected to the U.S version!)… I hope Nigel see's this and and now allows Canadians to audition for the American version. Adding Toronto and Montreal/Vancouver to the auditon cities would be great. The American version is great.. and I'm a fan, but ask Mary, Mia, Stacey, Blake and any of the choreographers and they will tell you that "as a whole" the Canadian dancers are much stronger.. c'mon Nigel help the Canadian dance community out!

They probably ran out of things like: acronyms (V.I.D.), slogans (Hot Tamale, Sexy Rexy's Rocket), and repeated phrases like "Div it up Canada, C'mon Canada, VOTE Canada" or my "favourite" from Leah "How did you get to be so talented?" or her second line of two: "Did you know you are that talented?" My heart goes out to the dancers…they don't deserve to suffer at the hands of poor judging and hosting. Dancers and Choreographers…you did us proud! Keep up the great work and dedication to your art! I was blessed because of what you did week after week…I will miss you! I need to make more of an effort to support the Arts! If it doesn't come to me…I have to go to it!
