Controversial Director Roman Polanski Getting Honored

roman polanski to be honored with lifetime achievement award

Well, this is bound to piss some people off.

A little bit over a year ago, Roman Polanski's rape victim Samantha Geimer spoke up about the director's crime on Larry King Live.

Now, Polanski is being honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival on Sept. 27.

While we understand that he's had an impressive career, we're not sure if someone with his criminal track record deserves so much positive recognition.

What do U think? Does Roman Polanski deserve a lifetime achievement award???

i remember being entranched by his romeo and juliet movie in school . But his ability doesnt override this filth… he should be honored with handcuffs.. he has made some amazing movies but if he wanted to be honored he should of acted honorable..

He deserves the accolades for his amazing body of work as a film maker but he also deserved to be imprisoned for sex with a 13 or 14 year old. He seems to still think he was tricked and he's a victim, but a child is not old enough to consent, even if she looks like an adult. I love some of his films but also kind of think 'yuck' about him.

Yes what he did was awful but I feel as though you quite often surpass the fact that this man survived the Holocaust and that his mother died in Aushwitz. You also seem to forget that his pregnant wife was murdered, so before you call him a monster for the things he did maybe stop being a douche bag for a hot second and look into his past. His past doesn't excuse raping anyone at all but maybe you could understand a life time achievement award or just be a little less obnoxiously opinionated. K THANKS

    He's basically a fugitive.

Hollywood has separate rules for themselves. Mel Gibson drunken rant gets his crucified. Child Rapist get Oscars and lifetime achievement awards.

  6. 6

Hahaha….getting honored? Sure-why not? It's not his fault he likes bopping little girls up the a$$….he's an artist, for crying out loud! NOT! Douchbag.

Re: perez posse member 777 – I completely agree.

  8. 8

The brilliant director is a vile RAPIST and doesn't deserve to be honored.

  9. 9

the only thing he deserves is a lengthy prison sentence

  10. 10

He deserves life in prison and nothing more!

Heh, artists have been shunned over an exposed nipple or for hitting a loved one, where are our morals people? HELLO! ROMAN POLANSKI IS A RAPIST / CRIMINAL !

  11. 11

A lifetime achievement award? For what? A lifetime of sexual assaults on underaged girls? The fact that so many people in Hollywood supported this Hebephile, speaks volumes of their egotism and lack of ethics, values and morals. It's disgusting.

    If is a$$ was black.

Re: perez posse member 777 – Polanski never directed Romeo and Juliet… Franco Zeffirelli did in the '60's, and then Baz Luhrmann directed the version with Leonard Dicaprio. Polanski did Macbeth.

    Disgusting!!

  15. 15

He also won the Oscar in 2002 for directing 'The Pianist'.
There's nothing new about him being honored as an acclaimed film director.

Filthy pig! Anal with a 13yr old? Really Roman? Couldn't ya find an 19yr old? While his wife was being murdered in LA, he was in London sleeping with young actresses. Back up Shorty!

Yes, the man is a brilliant director but he also vaginally and anally raped a 13 year old girl after plying her with alcohol and drugs. He is a pig and the worst kind of monster, he should have spent a long time inside a prison.

haha, funny one.. the last time, he was in zurich for the film festival, he got arrested.. kind of ironic ;-)

  19. 19

Re: lisa_vanhouten – sorry, I mean, when he was in zurich the last time, he got arrested.

@saywhaat?! thank you. you are right.
perez, i recommend to you the documentary "roman polanski: wanted and desired". you will view him in another way for sure. he is a very nice, intelligent man! he was "out of his mind" (his words) for years after his wife was murdered. who wouldn´t?

  21. 21

I suggest everyone should watch the documentary "Roman Polanski: Wanted Desired." It gives a comprehensive look at what went on behind the scenes with the prosecution and the events that led him to flee. It doesn't make any excuses for Polanski's crime, but it does show that the case was hijacked by a fame whoring judge who tried to orchestrate the precedings like theater. Polanski was going to plea with substantial jail time, but even the prosecutor acknowledged that the judge was out of control and couldn't be trusted. Is he a disgusting perv…yes, but it somewhat dispels the notion that he bolted the minute he was charged and didn't want to pay for what he did.

  22. 22

If Roman Polinski had gone to jail and serve time for his crime then after he got released he apologized to his rape victim and donated money to kids who have been abused by pedophiles then I would accept him being honored. Roman is a coward who never was punished for raping and drugging a teenage girl. Shame on him!

  23. 23

I don't think his personal failings should be considered in terms of whether his art is good.

  24. 24

I have no sympathy for that woman.
If she wanted justice, the wouldn't have taken the money he offered to settle.
This shit happened over 30 years ago, she was high on acid and at a party hosted by a man well over her years.
She wanted her 15 minutes and she got it.
Roman Polanski is a brilliant director.
    Kudos on all his achievements.
