Ice T Is So Over Today's Rap

Ice T Modern Rap

The music vet thinks today's music is all about "jewelry and cars."

Growing up around and being one of the rappers to make rap about the issues, Ice T is disappointed with the direction most hip hoppers are taking their music.

In a recent interview, he vented:

I want to see some little motherf**kers get together like a Public Enemy and give these fools a wake up call like, "F**k this jewelry and cars bulls**t,' and bring it back to Armageddon! Don't get it twisted - the people that are making music now, I'm not mad at them. People think I'm mad at pop music [but] I'm not. I'm just saying the conscious music is lacking. There's no roots…

Where are those kids that are gonna come out and really push the envelope? N.W.A did F**k tha Police, we were going hard, we were getting arrested. Now everybody is trying to stay in their nice little safe bubble and I miss the edgy music. That's all I'm saying. Saying you sell drugs, that's not edgy to me, let's talk about some issues.

Lupe Fiasco. Lupe Fiasco does it. I've listened to some of his stuff. He's not afraid…

Ice T might have a point, guys! What do U think? Any other rappers today talking about real issues?

What an azzwhole this blackie is. He's about the worst actor I have seen on a television show, and there are a WHOLE LOT of them on TV these days. Go on rich boy, do tell all about what's wrong with the genre these days. Foo

After "Ice Loves Coco" I just can't take him seriously.
Music, like everything evolves, hopefully soon it'll evolve into something that talks about issues and not "Last Friday night I had a menage a trois.

Rappers today lack creativity. Most of their songs are about money, bitches, sex, sex, sex, and drugs. The industry polishes them just like the rest. They all suck!

Ice T is 100 percent correct. Back in the day Rap was in your face.. today it's all about how expensive dude's watch's are, cars are and how many hoe they can fuck at the same time. That said why doesnt Ice get back in the game and RAP about it instead of TALK about it.

Re: Your S-M Girlfriend – Im sorry did you call Ice T a " blackie" can you explain that? And when is your movie or tv show coming out????

  6. 6

*snort* You mean we've actually gotten to the point where Ice T is going "In my day, sonny, music had a meaning!" ROFL!

I don't think encouraging anarchy is the same as "pushing the envelope", but I think he has some valid points. Hip hop is no longer what it use to be, every thing is so "radio" friendly and poppy and ugh nothing is original anymore.

Re: Your S-M Girlfriend – I can't tell you whats wrong with the genre, but I can tell you there is something wrong with your racist attitude. Calling him a blackie is just immature and invalidates any successful point you have made. Open your mind, not just your mouth.

Re: DontTrustAnyone – He's "living the life". Isn't that sort of hypocritical?

Atmosphere is fantastic, talks about things like how much he misses his father who passed away, and how hard it is to be a female working girl. It's so refreshing.

I know exactly where he's coming from and getting at. Concious music is lacking, AND conscience music. Sometimes a tune should SAY something of value. All the cars, women and jewelry music is a reminder that what goes in, comes out. You get what you expect.
It can actually take a fight against something to form values and integrity. These kids have had it too easy. Their day is coming.

Re: Your S-M Girlfriend – Who cares how much cash he has? The man is entitled to an opinion, and as he's clawed his way up the hard way, I'd rather listen to him than someone who calls him 'blackie' and has a big chip because T's earned some success.
He has mucho screen presence, and you have an awful, bitter blog presence, just saying.

I agree with this ice aged jungle bunny, they need to make more songs about killing cops and rebelling against the whites. It worked in L.A in the early 90s…Shut ur mouth and keep fucking that fat, filthy, loose wifes Kunt of hers.GODDAM DIRTY APES!
