What an exciting opportunity for Sheryl!
Today, a press release was sent out announcing the upcoming broadway musical adaptation of the 1982 classic movie Diner, and Sheryl Crow has been attached to write the music and lyrics!
The show will be directed/choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, and the book will be written by Barry Levinson, who wrote and directed the original movie.
As a reminder, here's the plot of the movie version of Diner:
"It’s Christmas 1959 in Baltimore and six high school buddies, now in their twenties, reunite as the second member of the group is about to tie the knot. Trying to deal with their new responsibilities, the group has awkwardly stumbled into adulthood and the only place they can make sense of their new lives is at their old hangout, The Fells Point Diner."
Here's what Sheryl Crow had to say about the project, which comes to Broadway in fall 2012:
"I was already a huge fan of Diner when Barry first approached me about writing a score for a theatrical re-telling of his film. I knew exactly who these men and women were and I feverishly began writing."
"Writing the score for Diner has been the most challenging and fulfilling experience of my career. I have always been a devotee and student of musical theatre, and I am very excited to be making this journey with Barry and Kathleen."
Very exciting! We can't WAIT to hear Sheryl's score, and we'll be excited to see who gets cast in the lead roles!
Perhaps they should bring back Steve Guttenberg? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? LOLz!
What do U think about a Diner Broadway musical? Is Sheryl Crow right for the project???
