Music Legend Sly Stone Is Poor And Homeless

| Filed under: DrugsMusic MinuteLegal MattersSad Sad

Sad that it's come to this.

Music legend from the 1960s and 1970s Sly Stone of Sly & The Family Stone has lost all his money and is living penniless in a van parked on a Los Angeles street.

What's sadder is that a retired couple who live on the same street where he regular parks his van have been helping him by allowing him to shower in their home and give him a meal to eat every single day.

Sly spoke about living in his van, saying:

"I like my small camper. I just do not want to return to a fixed home. I cannot stand being in one place. I must keep moving."

The man is used to living in mansions in El Lay and Napa Valley so we're not really buying his story. Plus, he's wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars on cars, fancy things, and drugs, which was the reason for his downfall.

He's now been involved in a major lawsuit with his former business manager, but because he thinks "the FBI is after him," he's been unable to perform his music.

In the meantime, Stone wants to let everyone know:

"Please tell everybody, please, to give me a job, play my music. I’m tired of all this s–t, man."

Wow. So unfortunate. This is what drugs can do, kids.

Maybe Morgan Freeman can get off his duff and do something

  2. 2

He sounds happy - maybe he really is.

  3. 3

    More Obamanomics?
Looks like that only works on a national scale. Oh, wait.

  4. 4

So he lives in a van. Is it "down by the river"?

  5. 5

Time to buy some of his music on iTunes…

Obamaeconomics? Are you a complete idiot?
Wait and see what happens when one of those republicans comes to power again, then you'll know shitty economics for real…

  6. 6

Where's the entourage he hung with now, I wonder?

That's so sad, this man is so talented! Now to be rich and famous just requires a whore mentality and a sex tape.

Re: luvs2tango – Would you SHUT UP about Obama! Not everything is Obama's fault. Some really talented rich people made mistakes with their money, not the fault of the President!

Re: kappuhcheenoh – THANK you. That needed to be said.

So sad. Sounds like drugs and mooching friends put him in a similar situation as MC Hammer, though MC Hammer's family stuck with him. Sly has brought so much happiness to many with his powerful music full of positive messages about acceptance and 'love thy brother". Best wishes to you, Sly.

What a nice family for helping him. Drugs are not always the reason but in his case probably crack. The FBI thing and all. Someone will probably swoop in and help him by the end of the day. Dr. Drew could use some new people on Celeb rehab I'm sure.

Man, I hate to hear that. He was the man when I was younger. A bunch of us really enjoyed his music.

Sly Stone has had many opportunities to tour, make music and be Sly Stone, but he is his own worst enemy.
TIme has been very kind to "classic rock" artists & if he would have had his head in the right place, he could have made a killing in the last 20 or so years.
"thank you falettinme be mice elf agin" indeed.

Everyone else will be too; just wait…..

Anyway, that must suck. Why is he asking people to give him a job? There is mcdonald's I'm sure he'll get free food and money he'll be able to save up buy a suit maybe live in motel 6 for a little bit than go work for a high paying job like a business. He needs to get up off his ass and do that. Hopefully he reads this or a relative of his and tells him and does this.

He has been battling drug addiction his whole life. Not everyone o.d.s. He could have been…he never really WAS. His Demons kept him from that.

Re: MR Pete – Morgan is busing making sweet love to his step-granddaughter. He's been banging her since she was a teenager. I can't watch him anymore. He's just not the benevolent, heroic dude he plays in movies. One of my favorite movies, "The Shawshank Redemption" has been ruined for me, just knowing that Morgan is a predatory pig. I wonder if he's now a BFF with Woody Allen.

Stone filed suit against Jerry Goldstein, the former manager of Sly and the Family Stone for $50 million in January 2010. The suit claims that Goldstein used fraudulent practices to convince him to deliver the rights to his songs to Goldstein. In the suit, he makes the same claim about the Sly and the Family Stone trademark.
