So Long, Stage Fright! Adele To Hit Arenas!

adele to hit arenas

Can't blame her! She's just become TOO popular for smaller venues!

Adele received mixed reviews from some loyal fans when she announced that she'd start playing arenas, even though she previously told fans she wouldn't be playing those venues.

Here's what she had to say about it:

"Too many people want to see my shows. This is the last time you'll catch me at a venue like this. These will be my last theatre dates as I'm moving on to arenas. I'll be at the O2 [arena] in February."

And here's what Adele had said about not playing arenas back in May:

"We had three nights on hold at the O2. I was like: 'I won't play a festival. You think I'm gonna play a f***ng arena? Are you out of your mind?' I'd rather play 12 years at the Barfly than one night at the O2! The thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me. I don't think the music would work either. It's all too slow."

We can certainly understand why fans would be initially disappointed, but we know that her devoted followers will inevitably support her as she VERY quickly continues to grow and gain popularity as an artist!

What do U think? Are U excited to hear that Adele will start playing arenas?

I love Adele. I saw her in a small venue this summer and she was fantastic.

Her music is so intimate. I don't think that will translate well in a large arena. Part of her charm is that she plays smaller venues and those venues fit her music perfectly. I do not support her playing in large arenas.

There is something to be said for making lots of money. However, my priority for her would be to protect her voice. Vomiting before going on stage is not good for the vocal chords. She has had more than one bout with a respiratory illness and that just might be stress related.
I see her more having a career like K. D. Lang. She should concentrate on writing, recording and playing intimate gigs.

Come on Adele you can do it. Get out there and sing. Just take care of your voice.

theres no point in announcing it, she'll just cancel them all.

I think she's going to find that it's actually LESS scary to perform on front of a stadium audience than it is an audience in a smaller venue. As a singer, I always felt that the smaller the audience, the more personal it was…you can feel every eye on you and see every face and every expression they make. With larger audiences, it was more impersonal, almost like you're watching an audience on a big movie screen rather than standing in the same room with them having them watch you. When there's a larger number of people, they start to become a blur. (Of course, I never performed in front of an audience the size of a STADIUM audience, mine were between small venue sizes to theater auditorium sizes but I think the concept would be similar.) Either way, I have NO DOUBT Adele will KILL it. She. Is. A. Goddess.

Super Excited that Adele will be playing arenas! It will give more people a chance to see her live. She is funny, nice, and loves her fans. Her small venue shows sell out WAY too fast. If she wouldn't have switched her show from the Fillmore in SF to The Greek in Berkeley, I would have missed her again this year. It was awesome and I bought the "Someone Like You" pillowcase :)
