Valley Of The Dolls Coming Back To TV!

valley of the dolls coming to nbc

Exciting news for fans of this classic 60's novel!

We've just learned that Precious director Lee Daniels will be writing/directing an upcoming Valley of the Dolls TV series, which has been purchased by NBC.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, here's the storyline for Valley:

"[Valley] spans over two decades to chronicle the lives, career highs and ultimate self-destruction of three female best friends: Anne Welles, who works at a Broadway talent agency; Neely O’Hara, a vaudeville star; and Jennifer North, a showgirl. The title of the book refers to a slang for sleeping pills that the three women eventually become dependent on."

Previously, Valley was created as a movie by 20th Century Fox in 1967, a mini-series by Fox TV in 1981, and a late-night soap in 1994.

We're not sure exactly HOW excited we are for this one, but it should be interesting to see Lee Daniels' take on this project! The guy made Precious, after all, which was SO intense!

Are U a fan of Valley of the Dolls? Are U excited that it's coming back to TV???

Noooooooo! The movie is just too classic. So incredibly bad that it is awesome! And poor Sharon Tate. Incredibly beautiful.

just because Mad Men is from that era and a huge hit, they're now all trying to jump on the bandwagon - but it doesn't mean everything else will automatically be a hit.
Mad Men is done exceptionally well
Playboy Club we can probably do without- caught a glimpse of it and wasn't impressed
Pan Am is an interesting concept since we have never had a show about that topic- haven't seen it yet
Valley of the Dolls- not so smart- it's interspersed with drugs/alcohol/promiscuity - very stale by today's standards
so don't think it's worth it
    .
watch the movie if you haven't seen it and see if you want a weekly dose of it…
    I sure don't

Another copy cat. Hey I have an idea, cast Lindsay as the main druggie/drunk. Perfect fit and she doesn't even have to use any acting skills for the part. It's her everyday life so it could be kind of a new reality type show. Perfect fit.

Re: anniebanannie51248 – Spot on! I said that about a couple years ago on this site. Yes, Lindsey would be perfect as Neely O'Hara. I love the movie and I have had my mom copy of an old Valley of the Dolls book. Good reading. The song is a classic also!

I love the movie, but if they actually keep to the original book and the original setting (the 1940s) - could be good and avoid too many comparisons.

    Gotta get off, gonna get
Have to get off from this ride
    Gotta get hold, gonna get
Need to get hold of my pride

When did I get, where did I
How was I caught in this game
When will I know, where will I
How will I think of my name

When did I stop feeling sure, feeling safe
And start wondering why, wondering why
Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
What's in back of the sky, why do we cry

    Gotta get off, gonna get
    Out of this merry-go-round
    Gotta get off, gonna get
Need to get on where I'm bound

When did I get, where did I
Why am I lost as a lamb
When will I know, where will I
How will I learn who I am

Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
Tell me, when will I know, how will I know
    When will I know why?
