Update: It's definitely happening!!!
Series star Jason Bateman has confirmed that both an Arrested Development feature film AND a limited return to TV of 10 new episodes is DEFINITELY happening!
The actor took to his Twitter to share the happy news: HeTweeted:
It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!
It's the biggest "will they, won't they" relationship ever to play out on television, but today, the balances are leaning more towards the "they will" side.
Ever since Arrested Development went off the air, there have been rumors of movies and new shows and spin-offs, etc. Today, at the The New Yorker Festival, series creator Mitch Hurtwiz announced that he is "planning" - please pay heed to the verb - on bringing Arrested back to television for a brief stint before a movie!!!
Now, IF (note the size of the "if") this actually happens, the mini-season will in fact include the entire cast of the cult hit. Mitch is thinking of about 9-10 episodes, each focusing on a different member of the Bluth clan. That's what we like to call a strategic maneuver in order work around the actor's busy schedules, which have been the biggest obstacle to date in getting the movie up running.
But here's the big question - will this actually happen? Sure, Mitch says he wants it too, but people want a lot of things. Have the actors signed on? Has FOX slated some production time? We're staying optimistically skeptical for now. We're not breaking out the frozen bananas just yet.
Still, there's hope….
